So I bought Thief II recently and after delving into it to be able to actually play it, I found that it was the glitchiest game I've ever played. You takes a step, the game freezes. You open the map, the game freezes. The problem might be with the fact that I'm playing it on mor recent computers, which lead me to conclude that PC games only have a short-term use. Once technology gets too advanced, they're unplayable unless something like steam picks them up and lets you download them. What do you think?
I'm actually playing Thief 1 now, most games i usually play are oldies anyway.(Even though my computer can run smoothly the most recent games, very few are worth it). Setting the processor affinity to a single core works wonders. But i guess that in the long term this type of problems will become a lot harder to solve.

Solutions always exist. I believe the OP's point is that there shouldn't be problems to begin with.

Of course the game wasn't meant to run on computers from the future, but there's no reason computers can't run programs from the past.
True, but do you honestly think it's fair (or possible) for designers to test the compatability of their new design with every program ever written?

I'm pretty sure there's enough old hardware/OS's kicking about to build an optimum rig for old games dirt cheap anyway. Probably less than the cost of a new game if you look carefully.

Running in Windows compatibility mode and settings Processor affinity to 1 processor if you are running a dual core will help a lot with old games. Google changing affinity.

Popular games usually have user made fixes as well, which if you're a little tech savvy isn't too hard to work through.

Ok, I get it. I was mistaken. Thanks for the advice on how to solve my problem. I guess the PC can be pretty versatile. I have to say that my opinion of this may have been colored by the fact that most of my computers break after about two years. For example: My XPS from 2006 couldn't play HL2 when I got it off steam.
