Young Justice's toys didn't sell well, while Teen Titans Go! comics still sell. Also, going by the animation quality, the latter is significantly cheaper to produce.

Also Teen Titans Go! is a pretty fun show for what it is. Don't get me wrong, I loved Young Justice, but Titans GO! genuinely makes me laugh.

Plus how can you NOT love what they did to Raven on that show? She's adorable.

One show's too depressing while the other's so uplifting...

One show takes itself too seriously while the other never takes itself seriously...

One show's not "funny" while the other show is "funny"...

When it comes to animated shows on a children's network, comedy ALWAYS beats drama in the animated department... and if the show's random, yet animated, then that counts as a "comedy"...

Yes, Young Justice could have been the next great DC show, with stories/themes that could rival both the animated Batman series and the Justice League animated series... But, the audience has spoken... and they want either random and/or comedy... and Teen Titans GO! fits the bill perfectly... I mean, the feedback to the new teen titans shorts were more positive than the feedback of Young Justice... (The numbers don't lie... "What numbers?" These numbers... I know what the audience wants... I'm the CEO of Cartoon Network... LOL)

It sucks that Young Justice was so close to reaching its "full potential" (with "Season 2", while still being better than "Season 1", had a weird approach to it's overall setup and sometimes questionable execution that originated from the later portions of "Season 1"), but only the more popular of shows can last the longest... and seeing how Teen Titans GO! is more popular than Young Justice, it's not going to be going anywhere for quite some time... (even if the show's production origins are questionable, at best... "Oh, so you're making a parody-like version of Teen Titans, using the characters from the original Teen Titans show, and... you have not seen one single episode from said series while making this show? Okay?")

Lowest common denominator of crass humour selling more to a wider audience as well as cheaper to produce.

From a business perspective it makes perfect sense.

Maybe one wasn't as popular as some like to think it was while the current one is thriving? Just my theory. I mean I LOVED Young Justice, I liked all the cameos and conspiracies that were taking place, but I cannot deny that young kids would probably hate the complexity and would be sitting around every episode wandering 'Who are all these NEW people? Why is there more than ONE Robin?' etc.

Plus, Teen Titans Go! Is actually pretty funny. I laugh at a few episodes I see. It's not something I'll hurry and switch to if it's on, but if everything on the other like 5 channels I watch are uninteresting I'll take it.

Also, I find it odd when people who aren't the demographic that a show is aimed at complain when the show doesn't live up to their expectations. Not saying this is what the OP is stating, but I find it happening with cartoon shows everywhere now, the older crowd are upset whereas the kids don't seem to care.

I can't give you an objective answer, but I can posit my entirely worthless opinion.

When I first saw the announcement for TTG! I eye rolled so hard I almost gave myself a headache.

However after happeneing upon it while channel surfing and having nothing else on, we decided to check it out.

Now, it's no Adventure Time in terms of writing and world building, and no MLP in terms of animation, and some of the jokes are aimed too exclusively at a young demographic for anyone else to find them funny probably.....BUUUUUT!

I find it charmingly funny more times than not. It's not that insipid, I think we've all seen far far worse. (Bakugan, any early morning shounen really)
The characters personalities are all mostly preserved, and they often use other titans for one off episodes similar to how the original show did.

And a nice little bonus is all the references that are strewn about the show.
We saw one episode where they were entering someones secret room that had a ton of over the top security doors and one of them had the numbers '101' on it and was shaped like a vault-tec door.

Practically anytime there is a big scene in the tower there are a myriad of scenes with little doll versions of DC heroes, some fairly obscure.
Little things like these really make the show feel like it has a soul, that the creators really enjoy working on it and make an effort in their work.

If the style of comedy doesn't appeal to you though, that's fair enough. : D

Because these are the people who run CN

But seriously, because even though tons of people loved Young Justice, all that matters is "TOY SALES TOY SALES TOY SALES." Also because Cartoon Network doesn't want to appeal to anyone older than the age of twelve.

What Kenbo Slice said is actually pretty true, they want the very young male audience and not many people over that age. If it makes you feel any better, it wasn't just Young Justice that was canceled but the whole block of DC shows including Green Lantern.

And as much as I hate to admit it, Teen Titans Go! is actually pretty funny. It's one of CN's funnier offerings actually.

Young Justice got cancelled in part because of merchandise (the symbionic titan effect) and in part because action cartoons have always had a hard time finding their niche, outside of specialized blocks. Honestly, I was impressed young justice stuck around as long as it did. Two seasons seemed the max for any action series that doesn't feature Ben 10.

Teen Titans GO! is a random comedy, which, if the success of Adventure Time and Uncle Grandpa didn't make clear, is all the rage these days. Plus, as was mentioned above it's insanely cheap to produce. The most limited of limited animation. Hell, in all the episodes of the show I've seen, I can count on one hand the number of times Raven has walked as opposed to floating, or used her hands instead of her powers.

As to my feelings on the subject... Eh... I was never big into young justice. As a marvel man, DC heroes just don't do it for me, besides, like I said, comparatively speaking Young Justice got an okay run. Compared to how Thundercats 2011, Generator Rex, and Sym Bionic titan got the shaft.

Teen titans GO! has quite a few legitimately funny episodes, and all sorts of nerdy references from all kinds of fandoms, which is always fun (one episode even had a shoutout to fallout 3.) Unfortunately, the series also does the "Family guy" thing, where it makes the entire cast a gaggle of selfish, unlikable assholes, which can ruin the comedy if it crosses into "I no longer care what happens to these terrible stains of humanity" territory. Robin and Beast Boy get the worst of this, though it happens to all from time to time.

tl;dr... I'm neutral on both shows, so I guess I can just go with the flow. XD

there's a simple answer as to why they replaced the really good series Young Justice with a show that rapes the original Teen Tiatns cartoon.. cartoon network is now run by half retarded morons with 9 irons lodged in their foreheads and only one functional brain cell between them... not sure there could be a real reason that makes sense.. teen titans go is an insult to the 2003 Teen Titans cartoon that was so good.

There are two things to keep in mind. One is ratings

Not only did Young Justice not do well in terms of who was watching it, it wasn't very marketable. So with a show that probably had high production costs and wasn't viewed or marketable, it makes sense why, regardless of quality.

Then there?s the other element that can?t be ignored: humor. Look at a show like Ultimate Spider-Man, for example, with its constant barrage of winking asides and one-liners. Kids like that stuff, even if it doesn?t always work as well for the rest of us. And judging by the fact that Ultimate Spidey is getting a 3rd season, much of that comes from the humor.

I don't hate Teen Titans Go (the cartoons, I really have to read the comics), and I liked Young Justice, but I hate how frigging depressing it all is (Seriously, what the hell writers?!).

Other than that, it looks like people would rather watch random comedies than actual stories nowadays... damned lowest common denominator...

It's not so much comedy, it's that kids tend to be a lot more unreliable when it comes to following shows with a consistent storyline. This happens for multiple reasons, partially it's that most kids just don't have the attention span to follow a story that's as straight up serial as Young Justice. Even the more dramatic superhero shows that wildly succeeded tended to be mostly one off episodes with a few two parters to advance the story framework, stuff like Justice League and the Batman animated series could be watched in almost any order with a few exceptions, and you never really risked losing the plot. If a kid starts watching an episode and has no idea what's going on, they are more likely to just stop watching, rather than adults or teenagers who are more likely to hunt down the episodes they missed, this leads into the second point.

Part of the reason this is, isn't just because kids are ADD, they are also at the whim of their parents and schedules they don't decide on. Timeslots have become less important as things like recording and digital downloads make catching all our favorite shows a snap, but timeslots can still make or break kid's shows. This is because kids don't have the kind of time flexibility or access to technology that adults do, so they stand a much higher risk of missing episodes of shows they want to watch. For a series like Young Justice, even missing a few episodes can kill a child's interest in the show, because they can no longer easily know what's going on.

Young Justice also had the problem of attracting an unconventional demographic, much like the Disney Tron cartoon, Animaniacs, and others, they attracted a demographic they couldn't easily market to, and with superhero shows this becomes doubly problematic. With Superhero shows, most of the merchandise targeted at older audiences is handled directly by Marvel or DC, making the benefit to CN completely separate, why should CN continue to pay for a show that they aren't seeing the profit from, they get deals on the Young Justice stuff that sells, but the more generic Marvel and DC stuff gets them nothing. This pretty much happens to any show that's aimed at kids, attracts adult fans, but fails to pull in its target demographic. If MLP wasn't also wildly popular with the 3-10 year old girl target market, it probably would never have made it past its second or third season either, despite its internet popularity (although there are a lot of other factors at play here, its the best example I could think of off the top of my head).

CN probably also got partially screwed by poor marketing of the show itself, the specific Young Justice stuff probably got lost in a flood of all of DC's other marketing and merchandise.

From what I've gather, the children find it hard to follow Young Justice (the inital target for the show) and since the executives cared about them more them the actual people who geniune loved YJ (like me) they cancelled it.
As for Teen Titans GO the kids eat it all up and some of the outside the target audience.

Young Justice was OK, in my opinion. Didn't hit the level of entertainment of the old Justice League series or the original Teen Titans cartoon. Young Justice had potential, but they did too much too soon. Too many characters, so I could never get around to finding one I really enjoyed. The animation was beautiful though.

Teen Titans GO!, while indeed funny, rubs me the wrong way. They got the OG voice cast back together, which really miffs me because they should have just given Teen Titans a proper revival. The cliffhanger they ended on is one of the most frustrating things I've ever encountered as a cartoon fan. Not to mention how out of character they've made the Titans now. If they would have done GO! with a new voice crew, I would probably be pretty warm to the show after watching it. However, that is not the case. I won't wish cancellation of it because it does seem to be pretty good, I'm just always going to be bitter because the original Teen Titans is still to this day one of my favorite cartoons. Young Justice had potential, but they did too much

Why is Adventure Time still on? Because everytime it's almost been taken down, it's murdered CEOs with its tentacles.

The point is, children aren't old enough to understand drama. At least, most of them. Have you ever seen a kid enjoying a soap opera? Appreciating school? Having difficulties with writing, or creative thought? Maybe. But I haven't, I just see them playing with toy guns and watching cartoons.

The shows are aimed at two entirely different target markets. TTG is aimed at a younger crowd, with its shorts, humor and honestly more childish field. It performs well in its desired market. The kiddies love it.

Young Justice was aimed a little older. At a group that channels like CN are starting to have trouble holding onto these days. pre teens and early teens. The middle school crowd. And it did not perform as well in this market as they would have liked.

It's that simple. It isn't why cancel one for the other. The two had nothing to do with one another. They were aimed in entirely different directions.
