Wii Sales Fall in Japan

Has the Wii's bubble finally burst? Sales figures from Japanese retailers show the Wii is the only console to show negative growth over the last week.

While it is far too soon to start shouting the demise of the Wii from the rooftops, Nintendo saw unit sales of its home console fall by 3,000 units, allowing the PlayStation 3 to close the sales gap between the two consoles from 12,000 units two weeks ago, to just under 6,000 units this week.

The Wii is showing the least resilience of all systems in the current slump in the Japanese hardware market, seeing sales slump 96,000 since the beginning of the year. It's not all doom and gloom in the Nintendo camp however, as sales of the DSi rose by 4,000 units, perhaps suggesting that the market for the Wii is starting to become saturated.

Over 45 million Wiis have been sold. To put that in perspective, 100 million people watched the last Superbowl.

The saturation of shitty 3rd party games have finally taken its toll on Nintendo. I hope.
sounds like a personal problem,

I still enjoy the Wii and once everyone gets the PS3 and the 20 games that are out for it I'm sure the sales will slide for that as well, I have a feeling that the 360 may make the most out of this council generation because of its large library and relatively cheap price. Sony is going to have to REALLY try to get some profit out of this generation and I'm not saying they wont succeed its just not looking good so far.

Indigo hit the nail on the head, you cant foresee the destruction of Nintendo based on one country, even if it is Japan. You need to take all of the perspectives in, the stores in my city are still having difficulties keeping the Wii's stocked. They all get claimed as soon as the delivery dates are announced.

i am a great fan of games (playing for +20 years) and a fan of games on any machine.
so i got a wii a few weeks back, i played it for a few hours that first day and i was completely disgusted by it. if you removed the gimmick factor of the controller there's nothing my PS2 couldn't do and what really rubbed the salt in was that the controller wasn't even remotely accurate.
the next day i gave it away to my bro, they may have sold loads but i wonder how many wii's really gets used?
maybe there's a generation of 6 year old wii gamers out there now.

Ugh. Not to punch through your iron logic there but why the hell would you buy it again if you already own it?

There is no such thing as a red wii of death...at least not unless you count STDs...

BADUMPISH!
