"I actually have a thing to say to guys who play video games," he said. "When a woman joins the game, like... don't be a dick."
Being a Trek fan and thinking Wheaton was a pretty cool guy I had nothing but respect for him but this quote just means he's caught up in this PC bullshit too.

Listen folks, women want to be treated equally so they should be. If you're a dick to other guys, then you SHOULD be a dick to women too. Anything else is preferential treatment.

Watch how many women come along to defend preferential treatment.
Or maybe he's talking specifically about people who make sexist comments towards women?

You know, those dicks who quip, "Shouldn't you be making me a sandwich?" or "You have an Xbox in the kitchen?" -_-

It's a better message than most, in all its simplicity, but otherwise; frankly, this guy has about as much punch in his always mentioned status, as a random person with a beard.

How did Will Wheaton turn from the most annoying person on Star Trek.. To someone who is a major part of nerd culture? Was it the Guild?

He was a nerd on Star Trek too. That's what everyone hated about him.

I think the point was focusing on how he said "When a woman joins the game, don't be a dick".

Specifying that you shouldn't be a dick just because a woman joins a game is preferential treatment, and therefore sexist. Why shouldn't I be dick? I'm probably going to be a dick to every other douchebag in the game, so why the fuck would I give her preferential treatment because her username is "0MGG4M3RGUR1"?

Seriously. That's the kind of fucked up ridiculous bullshit that extreme feminists push on people, that we have to be nicer to women than we are to other men. That kind of behaviour can fuck off and burn.

Disclaimer: I am actually a rather nice person, I just get fed up when I'm told I should be nice to women. This is an example, I'm usually nice to everyone in games I play against, unless they're campers, who are scum and should be culled for the sake of humanity.
But seriously, as soon as you hear a female voice on a CoD lobby, the flaming starts. If said girl says as much as "Good match", she gets insulted. "Go back to the kitchen!", "lmao noob!", "stfu whore!" and such. Now, if a guy says "Good match", you would immediately think something like "Oh, how polite" or "Yeah, it truly was". I don't think girls like to be treated as princess and expect people to literally die for them. They just want to be treated equally. Seriously, dick guys. Try it for one day. Pretend that girl in that CoD match is just another guy.

The problem here is that women TRY to be treated equally but there are guy dicks out there who refuse to accept this. Hey, if a girl is being a dick, then by all means, be a dick too if you feel like it. But I've found out that that's pretty rare. As a matter of fact, most girls avoid interacting with people online because of that. So I think the argument here is: If someone's not being a dick to you, then don't be a dick yourself.

To guys who play video games - dont be a dick when a woman joins the game
When a woman JOINS THE GAME.
At the point of joining the game nobody could have done anything worthy of getting shit, but many women get shit just for being women online. Just join a game and talk and the shit comes in.
It is not a difficult concept to grasp.

I have NO PROBLEM with smack talk in regards to how I am playing or if someone else is raging. There is no reason to flame me just for saying `Spy` over voice-chat.*

*Before anyone says `that doesn't happen.` It does.

Erm, what? I sincerely hope you're joking because well...

I have been playing World Of Tanks all day. Community is pretty nice, the nicest i've played with in fact and people are quite chilled and helpful. Do you know what happens when I type GG in chat?

I will get told to stfu, go play kid's games and that my mother was more than likely a whore.

COD? For turning on my mic I get that. For saying GG i'll have my own team sabotage or kill me, depending on the game mode and I will relentlessly called a basement virgin, a bastard, a neckbeard, a motherless twat or any combination of the above.

I don't think it's just women that get it. People who are dicks online are dicks to everyone, I just have a feeling they hear a girl and then decide to use it as part of the insults as personalized insults are more effective.

Well, I suppose I am speaking from personal experience. I'm not saying people decide to be dicks specifically to girls. When one's a dick, one's a dick to everyone. However, it seems to me that for the most part, if guy dicks hear a 'dude' voice, they can go into mild dick mode perhaps because they know it will backfire. Maybe the other guy will be a bigger dick than them. Who knows? But if a girl talks, then it just seems to them like an easy prey. Almost as if they're asking for it. And for the most part, other girls I've played with either try to avoid the trouble by not using their mics at all (Me, and it's sad) or they just don't wanna be dicks to strangers. You know, they're smarter than those dickish guys.

I'm not saying only girls are the target. But like you said, girl are more of an easy target to guys like that. If they have a choice between trolling a guy or a girl, you bet they're gonna go for the girl. So yeah, my beef is that, and once again, for the most part, there's no equality, believe it or not. When a dick is a dick to everyone, then fine. Whatever. But believe me, the lobby can be as quiet as possible and as soon as you hear the faint whisper of a girly voice, the trolling starts.

Again, that's my experience.

Does anyone else here find it absolutely hilarious that a thread about someone saying "be nice to people" has resulted in flaming and fighting about feminist issues? Which is a horribly hackneyed discussion in which we all know who the misogynists are and could probably put them on a list or some such thing?

All I'm saying about Wheaton's idea is, well, I hope he has a magic Shut Down 4chan button, or he's chasing pink unicorns here.
