Man... I want watch me some TNG now...

I know what to ask for, for my birthday.

I don't remember having a huge problem with Wesley.

That being said... I don't know who that person between Steward and Wheaton is.

I just can't place him.
I know, thank god it's on tv when I get home from work. Also that's Jonathan Franks AKA Will Riker.

We should probably bear in mind that for all the dislike Wesley Crusher inspired, he had nothing - NOTHING - on Alexander.

Oh, Alexander. How I utterly loathed you.

Turlough was a boy. He didn't show any leg at all.
You can still show leg.:) I know Peri was the big draw in Planet of Fire, but she wasn't the only one at Lanzarote.

Gates McFadden and Marina Sirtis look amazing. (As does Patrick Stewart, obviously.) If you look at a recent picture of Denise Crosby, though, she...hasn't aged so well.

I've said everything I need to say about Wil Wheaton elsewhere (awesome guy, annoying character, not as annoying as people made him out to be), so I'll say this now: it's always really weird seeing child actors as adults. By "child" actors I mean ones chosen to play teenagers. Wil Wheaton, Alexis Bledel, Aron Eisenberg...They always look half-grown. It's just bizarre. I suppose they were chosen for the youthful features that they had retained into their late teens/early 20s, and if those features have stuck around for that long, they'll probably stick around forever.

I actually kinda liked Wesley. Maybe I am the only one. Never understood the hate for him.

Worf's son was the one I hated. And Lwaxana Troi. Yeeeech.

Denise Crosby,
Oh, I know. I was flabbergasted when I found that she played the evil nurse on Dexter. I never would have guessed if I hadn't looked it up.

I quite like Wesley. The Wesley specific episodes are usually quite good quality, it's the ones where the rest of the characters would be perfectly capable of solving the problem, but then Wesley comes in at the last minute and saves them all. That's annoying, but it's bad storytelling, not necessarily a bad character (although let's not split hairs, most of the time Wesley was a bad character as well)

The hatred for Wesley is one of those many many times I feel ashamed to be included in nerd communities. The amount of hatred that got sent towards Wil Wheaton is absurd for so many reasons. Hearing him talk about it now, and how he didn't even realise at the time quite how deep the hatred ran, makes it really clear.

Wil Wheaton was not Wesley, Wil Wheaton never really had any influence on Wesley. Wesley was the brain child of Gene Wesley (yes, that is his real middle name) Roddenberry) and no one else should shoulder the blame for that character.

The modern equivalent would be Jake Lloyd. He is not to blame for most of the things you hate about young Anakin, George Lucas is, so stop hating on Jake.

I never hated Wesley. Sure he was annoying and did stupid shit sometimes, but he was not only a teenager but apparently a pretty smart one.
My thoughts exactly. I thought he was doing his best as a very young man in a world of adults.
Also... I'm gonna echo a lot of people here, but... I feel so old now...

Even Doctor Who had its own Wesley Crusher/Jar Jar Binks

I think poor Matthew Waterhouse must have gone through the same thing as an actor.

I enjoyed TNG well enough but I didn't watch it often enough to warrant a deep-seated hate of Wesley Crusher. Although I do remember finding the episodes that featured him heavily to be incredibly boring.
Dude, Turlough was WAY worse than Adric.
Turlough was evil. We were supposed to hate him. Of course it wasn't always obvious. I think they hinted at it in his introduction, then dropped it and made him just vaguely unlikable until his betrayal in his last story. But that made it feel good once he was exposed. "I knew it. I always hated that guy."

We were supposed to genuinely like Adric and his stupid math competition medal. We were supposed to feel sad, rather than relieved when he left the show.

Holy shit! That's Riker?!

God damn he's aged...

I feel old now.
He's passed Patric Stewart. He must have a painting in his attic that still looks like he did in the 80s.*

Fair distinction. I never really had a problem with Adric, personally. He was supposed to be rather immature - to contrast with his huge IQ.

Of course, if we really want to talk about annoying companions you wanted to shove out an airlock, we should be focusing on Mel.

I think the only real sour thing I can say about Wesley Crusher was his exit from the show, where he discovers his godboy powers over time and space and leaves with the Traveller. That was completely worthless.

Honestly though, Trek has had much worse characters then Wesley. Heck, Neelix on Voyager was more of a Jar Jar Binks then Wesley ever was.

I never had a problem with Wesley. Perhaps because I was 7 when TNG first aired, but I wanted to be him. Especially that episode with Ashley Judd.

Also, fuck Alexander.

Never really liked the character Wesley on Star Trek. But then the series ended and for a long time it seemed like Wil Wheaton had fell off the face of the planet.

But then a strange thing happened in that Wil Wheaton came back. Turns out the words the geek community should have about Wheaton is "one of us, one of us". He's turned up in some nerd places and shown that he's got some real geek cred going on.

With his willingness to play against what we'd expect he's played some really fun roles on Eureka and The Big Bang Theory, so it's great to see him in our strange little culture again.

Too bad the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo was such a gongshow this year because of all the high profiles guests...

Okay I'm still a little bitter that I got locked out of it for 3 hours and missed my chance at getting Patrick Stewarts Autograph...

When I first say TNG, I loved it and was about the same age as Wesley was in the show. I didn't hate him at all and it always confused me why so many people hated him. Then it struck me, he was living their dream, he got to pilot a huge space ship. People were jealous of him.
