Witcher 2 System Requirements and New Screens Revealed

The surprisingly-gentle Witcher 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Witcher-2-Assassins-Kings-Collectors-Pc/dp/B004CQRCF4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1302031080&sr=8-2] system requirements have been revealed along with ten very sexy new screenshots and a close-up look at Geralt's newer, older face.

Does your gaming rig have what it takes to play CD Projekt's upcoming RPG The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings? The answer is very likely yes, based on the system requirements released today. Minimum spec is very, well, minimal, except for the video card, which while hardly high-end is still well above and beyond every other component on the list. It sounds like The Witcher 2 is going to be one hot-looking piece of digital action.

Miminum System Requirements:

OS: Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista SP2 / Windows 7 (32/64-bit)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
Memory: 1 GB Windows XP / 2 GB Windows Vista and Windows 7
Video Card: 512 MB RAM, supporting Pixel Shader 3.0 (Nvidia GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon HD3850)


Recommended System Requirements:

OS: Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista SP2 / Windows 7 (32/64-bit)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad or AMD Phenom X4
Memory: 3 GB Windows XP / 4 GB Windows Vista and Windows 7
Video Card: 1 GB RAM, supporting Pixel Shader 3.0 (Nvidia GeForce GTX260 or ATI Radeon HD4850)


Additionally:

Sound Card: compatible with DirectX 9.0c
HDD: 16 GB of disc space
Disc Drive: DVD x8, compatible with DVD9
Installation requires administrator access.

Even the recommended specs aren't exactly over-the-top, which hopefully means that the brand-new engine CD Projekt created for the game is not only more capable than BioWare's old Aurora engine, but also more efficient. The publisher also released ten brand-new screenshots showing off the new technology in action, which you can see below, as well as a long-awaited close-up of Geralt's new, timeworn face.

Hopefully Geralt's voice actor has taken some lessons in emoting this time around though, because dear fucking god it was awful last time (and I only played it for 5 hours before succumbing to the terrible start).

Hmm, I think I actually have one of the cards they list in their "Recommended System Requirements" in the current incarnation of my gaming rig - this bodes well! Waiting slightly more than one whole month to get my hands on this game is going to be bloody torture though, stupid future hogging games I want to play.

The specs really aren't that demanding it seems, it looks it will run fine on my '11 MacBook Pro in bootcamp. The screens look great, very promising, but I'll need to leave time for LA Noire and Dragon Age II. Too many games coming out now, lol.

As bad as it seems, it actually is consistent with his character in the books. Geralt was always described as, like, a stoic wall of neutrality or something. He always remained very level and never got emotional.

Fair enough, but when I'm reading a book I'm not listening to someone's droning voice for 80 hours.

I thought he did a great job. Geralt's got a lot of miles on him, he's seen it all and done it all. There probably isn't much in the world that will get him too overly excited. And let's not forget that he's also not exactly human, either.

So much of The Witcher was YMMV, so I guess it's not too surprising that this is too.

We need a "low" setting spec, and a "max" setting spec - and at a specific resolution too! Makes it significantly easier to judge if it'll run well...

I can't wait to pick up my collector's edition of The Witcher 2 on May 17th. The only bad thing is that L.A. Noire comes out on the same day. I am debating which one I should play first. Those screen shots of the game look awesome.

That's called benchmarks and i doubt any dev studio has computers with all sorts of hardware specifications to provide detailed data on this. Too many variables considering there are slight differences even between same models of videocard by different manufacturers.

The game, currently, is not developed for consoles. It may be in the future but CDProjekt is a studio that does things properly. They want to first make a PC version and then eventually tone it down for console release, rather than forcing PC users to suffer due to consoles being outdated for last few years.

No, he was simply a bad voice actor. The developers didn't have enough money to pay for good voice actors for other languages besides Polish. Polish voice actors were top notch.

I'm still going to disagree. I thought he did a fine job, and believe me, compared to the real bad voice actors out there, this guy was genius.
