The film was epic in every single way. Definitely worth the wait since Iron Man's reveal of Nick Fury and SHIELD.

The shot of everyone fighting in New York was beautiful. It wasn't even marred by the Hulk punching Thor, which was FUCKING HILARIOUS. But seriously, beautiful shot.

Hulk battering Loki was a part that had everyone laughing, and Loki's little moan afterwards was even funnier.

My favourite part though? Iron Man falling through the portal and getting caught by Hulk. It was in the trailers, but I just thought that part was epic. Hulk was just so badass, and seeing him as the comic relief was a massive surprise.

I hope for a Director's Cut DVD, because more Avengers is not a bad thing.

Best Marvel movie I've seen so far. Joss Whedon should be their first point of call for all future projects.
I was getting worried that Stan Lee wasn't going to make his obligatory cameo, but there it was right at the end.
I hope the Deadpool movie will be just as good.

Oh and I left the theatre as soon as the credits started, did anyone bother staying till after the credits and see if there was a "bonus scene" afterward?
Yes the bonus scene outed Thanos as the true leader behind the Cituri invasion. Thanos smiles when he is told that "to attack is earth to court death". Nerdgasim! As We were walking out of the theater more then a few people asked (referring to Thanos) "was that hell boy" I facepalmed.

I am so sold on Ruffalo as the Hulk. Norton was awesome but Ruffalo just did it tons better. I think after this movie the Hulk is by far my favorite Avenger. Everything the Hulk did in that movie was badass and hilarious. That is my kind of super hero.

Classic Whedon humour, which I've missed sorely.
Being a big fan of Joss Whedon, I agree with this 100%, After watching this and The Cabin in the Woods (which he helped write) I'm confident he is back to doing what he does best. Awesome script, even better fight scenes.

Also, the Captain America/Iron Man Shield-Lazer combo. SO FUCKING COOL D:

Pretty much the same reaction as I did, about Phil, but my wife pointed out an interesting possibility on the way home.

He might not be dead.

Nick Fury is a manipulative twat, he pretended those cards were in his pocket and outright lied to the Avengers, I think he'd be more than capable of faking Phil's death to ensure their cooperation.
Exactly the same theory I had when it's revealed that the cards were found in his locker. Coulson was too awesome to kill.

See, I wondered that too, but they've passed the point where bringing him back would be anything other than cheap. If he'd been shown on the helicarrier towards the end of the film, maybe, but it's too late now.

Yeah, it could have been better.

There were a couple of bits where it dragged. Like half way through the movie when all they were doing was talking.

The Hulk:
And as cool as the Hulk was, I think they managed his story line pretty poorly. They made this big deal about him being this unstoppable, uncontrolable animal, yet at the end of the movie he was taking orders and working within the team. That simply didnt fit the story they had provided. He just rocked up on a motorbike and was a different character who just happened to look the same.
They could have made it more believeable if during the scene in the airship, when he was chasing the Black Widow and had just knocked her down, if he was about to smash her or something, they could have shown something along the lines of Banner attempting to take control. They could have then shown that he did exert some form of control over the Hulk, and laid the ground work for him being in control during the final battle. Because the Hulk in the final battle was a different Hulk that we were shown during the earlier movie. They were two different characters. They just looked the same. See what i'm getting at?

The Thor - Ironman fight, and the poor depiction of Tony Stark:
This was stupid and could have been done so much better.
Thor is a god and a great warrior, but he is not stupid.
Ironman is a GENIUS. Tony Stark would not have been able to rise to being a captain of industry without knowing how to talk to people and to convince them to see his point of view. Could you honestly see a person who acted like that, ever convince a board of directors to do things his way?
The whole concept that Ironmans first action to stop Thor would be violence is just plain stupid. Who would voluntarily pick a fight with a god? He would have talked to him first and convinced him that they needed Loki.
But then there wouldnt have been a fight scene.
Also, if Thor had killed Loki then and there, the Allspark wouldnt have been used to open the portal. And the rest of the movie wouldnt have happened.

Loki:
Loki is supposed to be a master sorcerer. He did barely any magic. A couple of illusion spells and they guess that covers it? Not good enough.
Plus, there's the side note of the arrogance shown by the film makers in having him speaking English to a street full of Germans. But that wasnt his fault. That was the writers.

The piss poor writing and Joss Whedon:
The whole film felt like a second draft. The feeling that I got was that they were forcing situations of conflict and not letting them occur naturally. They were just setting up fight scenes rather than them being inevitable.
Joss Whedon: I wonder how much actual writing he did for this movie? From what i've heard, he has been, a consultant if you will, for various movie scrips in the past. When the script isnt funny, they call him in to add one liners and make it funnier. I personally think that's what they did for this movie. If you compare the scripts for Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Serenity to this script, you can see that the Avengers is no where near the class of his previous stuff. The interpersonal dialog in this movie was hopeless. Yes Ironman was funny and there were some really good one liners, but the rest of the conversations were forced and irrelevant.
If on the other hand it was all Joss Whedon, then it's not one of his best.

The good bits:
Two really stood out for me;
1. The Hulk smashing Loki. That was awesome! "Puny god."
2. Scarlett Johansson's arse. Dear god! The scene where she was talking to Loki in the glass cage thingy, all I could look at was her butt. Woah.

Too long to read version:
1. Dragged on in parts.
2. The Hulk story had a major plot hole.
3. They treated Thor and Ironman like really dumb 15 year olds.
4. The writing was poor.
5. Scarlett Johansson has a great arse.

*** 3/5 stars.

Ironman, Thor & The Hulk are the only characters they needed for the movie. I felt like the other characters were just useless compared to these three.

I haven't seen a film in the cinema in a while. Even Captain America and Thor I watched on Sky Anytime. Yet I am so glad I went to see this, would have been a mistake not to. I don't think I have a favourite scene but The Hulk smashing Loki around was gold, and the thing where the camera moved to each one of them fighting in a certain location. I have a question though, is the a after the credits scene? Not the Thanos one because that was only half way through the credits. Was there anything after?

What I liked: Gratuitous Arse shots of Scarlett Johansson, comedy between the characters, Hulk smashing Loki, Hulk Punching Thor, general setup of things

What I didn't like: For crying out loud are they trying to make bicep porn with every scene where Chris Hensworth has his arms crossed? They zoom in on the damn things from EVERY angle. I didn't like Phil dying either.

There's more to both characters AND superheroes than pure power.

"(i forgot): There a bunch of freaking monkeys.
Captain America: Hey, I know what monkeys are!
...
I got that reference..."

I couldn't stop laughing. I think Whedon was making a joke at his own expense there (due to his abundance of modern pop culture references), and it was great. Also the guy that instantly started playing galaga after everyone left.

I agree, even if you went SOLELY by their actions and powers, in the movie they're all important (which is what makes The Avengers great).

Captain America is the tactician. He's the one that gives everyone the orders in the final fight in order to minimize damage, not to mention saving hundreds of civilians (the grenade stop alone would have saved seventy-some people).

Hawk-eye (not on purpose) is a big reason why the bad guy was able to get such a foothold against the Avengers and his mind-controlled actions inadvertently bring the Avengers together. He was also a support role throughout the last battle, clearly assisting Iron Man in multiple occasions and shown saving the life of multiple Avengers.

Most importantly...Black Widow shut down the damn portal! It doesn't matter how well Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk do in that final battle if the enemy can just keep pouring soldiers at us.

It's
"His own personal Flying Monkeys"
A reference to the Wizard of OZ 1939 Film, probably the last movie Cap ever saw before the war

Just the group of them sitting around a table in a restaurant eating Shawarma like Tony suggested. Noting is said at all it's just them eating.

Hmm. Wished I had stayed to see that. Oh well, time to wait for the DVD release or go see it again.

!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have devalued your entire argument with one word.

On a more serious note. You did actually make some really good points. I too was confused by how Banner simply talking to a random guy who let him borrow some clothes allowed him to control the Hulk.
As for Stark, I think that how he acted fit the personality set up by his previous movies. It honestly would have felt out of place if he had talked Thor down (not that that's a good thing).
My biggest gripe was that the whole Blackwidow/Hawkeye story just felt forced. I liked that it gave some back story to each of them but it really just felt awkward.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty good movie by super hero movie standards but IMO it doesn't really come close to Nolan's Batman movies.

I thought it kind of dragged in the second act and the scepter closing the portal was a bit of an ass-pull. However, the hulk was actually kind of scary in this film and him punching the whale thing in the face (!!!) marks the point where the film gets awesome :D

"Puny God", The Hulk completely stole this film, thought i don't understand the "that's my secret, i'm always angry" thing. Can someone explain?
