On the point of selling the baby, it's not really any different than "buying", sorry adopting, a child from another county, (China, Romania whichever). I know people that have done this and these governments are selling the children to desperate parents. Then the parents parents have to pay to get the kid back to parent's country. She just didn't do it legally.
Other than that, the drug addict mother had the sense(?), sure we can use that word, to give up her child that she clearly is incapable of taking care of. I doubt the man is a good guy. I could be wrong. He could be a fabulously wealth man, who never married, a little lonely and thought to give the kid a good life. Doubtful, but in the realm of possibility.

This isn't a issue of some one being dumb it's a issue of them being a morally bankrupt waste of a human being, eugenics can't fix that.
