"Jingoism," a word I didn't even hear for the first time until junior year in highschool, really needs to be used more often. It describes the attitude that many Americans mistake for patriotism really well, and it's a shame that it died out in common usage some time between the 19th century and the present. I think it might be used more commonly in Europe, considering some posts I've read online, but I've never heard it used in the U.S. outside of that one U.S. history class from my Junior year.
