Worst examples of blatant fanservice

I'd say the worst example is the anime of Rosario+Vampire. Now, it's a harem show, so of course it's going to be blatant about it, but I've read the manga as well, and believe me, the adaption is much more... Shameless. Too bad too, because Rosario actually has a pretty good plot that gets really dumbed down in the Anime, and that's the form of it most people remember.

Oh, and One Piece is pretty bad with it too. Especially Nami

As you can see, she certainly got some... "Character development" post time-skip

This bit of eye candy from the Star Trek Into Darkness trailer, which as it turns out in the movie is just a blatant non sequitur.

Also from the Guardians of Galaxy trailer, everybody's favorite scantily clad green skinned space babe.

There's this OAV called Eiken.
It's only 2 episodes, each 30 minutes long.
I've managed to watch about 15 minutes of the first episode.
The fanservice, while not hentai, is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen in an anime.
Everything else mentioned in this thread is nothing compared to this.
Watch at your own risk:

The agarest wars games come to mind. Well, I mean, I kind of understand why they did it that way. The fanservice is the only claim to fame the series really has, and without it it'd just be another fairly average JRPG that would have trouble finding an audience... though I argue that being known as "the game with that one girl who eats the giant sausage in a strange way" isn't much of a reputation, either.

the big issue with the fanservice in that game is that it tends to come out of nowhere in a plot that otherwise takes itself very seriously. The game literally shifts gears from its tones of deicide and redemption to a random scene where one of the heroines decides to jump in a tank full of eels, resulting in a scene that's almost-but-not-quite tentacle molestation

Heh, I remember the days when we fans were embarrassed to talk to non-fans about the occasional brief nudity or near-nudity in Bubblegum Crisis.

For me though, the most offensive bit--while it was just a panty-shot was in Kurogane Communications. Main character is hearing all the gruesome details of how her parents sacrificed themselves to save her... and is very *very* upset. And in the middle of that scene, a panty-shot. Really!? I mean *really*?!?!

A while ago a woman I was dating had me watching Pokemon with her (she wouldn't let her son watch anything unless she had seen enough of it to make a judgement about it first) and she pointed out service-y things in it that I'd never taken any notice of... some of them amused her... some made her angry.

That overated crap Ghost In the Shell has a stupid bimbo robot taking her clothes off to work. I saw that, then said, FTS! and left the video.
Except in Ghost in the Shell (the movie) it's not sexualized at all. There's nudity, yes, but it's not for the sake of titillation. It's actually very sterilzed and cold. Kind of like a mannequin or robot.
In the film, at least. In SAC, it was really jarring to see the Major wandering around the office without pants on. And no, I don't buy the excuse that in the future, nobody really cares about modesty standards in cybernetic bodies. She's the only one who really does it, and there is no reason other than to show off her legs. It also doesn't help that her tactical armor looks way better.
The modesty standards in cybernetic bodies isn't an excuse, it's a big issue they touch on quite often. If you've seen the movie opening credits, you know that full cyborg bodies have no naughty bits, they cannot actually have sex. The main point the series touches on is the man/machine line. Even if you consider some of the scenes as "fan service" (which to me would mean they were ONLY there for the cheap sex appeal to the fans) I don't think it's fair to say it is poorly done (and thus belongs in this thread).

Also, to call the Major a "bimbo" is just plain silly. She is a wonderfully intelligent and strong yet very flawed character. I think she is very well written.

Point out exactly where I say that the Major is a bimbo or that she is poorly written. I have no problems with her character. Also, I'm talking about Standalone Complex, not the film, different continuity. In Standalone Complex, she waltzes around without pants on all the damn time, and is the only one that does so.

Yah! Another chance to share the "not technically porn but you probably shouldn't watch this on your work computer and you'll feel a little dirty right afterwards" video!

Yeah...that just happened. The entire show is basically that. It's actually a really cool idea for a show but I feel like it's doing a disservice to itself with all the freaking fan service in it. I can't really recommend this show to...well....anyone really unless I know them well enough that they know I'm not watching this show all day with my pants off...
...da flying fuck did I just watch? They serious? They serious with that shit?

Holy God in heavens, that's so stupid and needless. For fuck's sake, if I want to watch some anime tits, I watch hentai.

That was actually the first thing I thought of when I read the thread title. Oddly enough I didn't hate that anime because of the fanservice. I hated it because I found all the characters completely unlikable.

I don't deny that she is pants-impaired. I simply mean that you shouldn't write it off as bad fan service when it is so central to the issues raised by the anime.

While I generally do enjoy the ol' fan service, there are some things that even I find, well, distasteful within the context of the scene.

Mass Effect 3: Citadel DLC

It's not sexualized like almost everything else shown here but it is still blatant fan service. Cheesy plot, all your favourite characters, lots of jokes (many of which break the fourth wall), all around silliness, you even host a party for everyone!. Yeah it was pretty awesome. Made purely for the fans.

I don't know, I kinda like the fanservice in HSotD because it's so rediculous and blatant. I'm sorry, I just can't get mad at matrix tits. I can only laugh, but I feel like I'm laughing with the anime.

Also, if an anime is advertised as Ecchi and for having fanservice, I feel as though I have no right to be mad at it when it delivering just that, whether it's good fanservice or bad.

OT: With that said, though, there are some examples that do get under my skin.

Recently, Mahou Sensou. Most scenes with Mui comes across as blatant pandering. There's a scene where her and the main guy goes into his dreams, then it turns into a beach and Mui dons a bikini for a few minutes, before changing back and never mentioned again. Then there's when she wears a nurse outfit for no reason (well, they give a reason, but it's a bullshit one).

Actually, most romance anime (Particularly shounen romance) that include a female third wheel is guilty of this. The female third wheel tend to only be there just to be a tease.

One of the main reasons i watch anime is because of the fan service.

So one of the BEST blatant fan service ive seen is Highschool of the dead. The Japanese are amazing with fantasy boob physics, lol.

Two particular anime irk me because of the fanservice aspect (one more than the other actually). The anime adaptation of Rosario+Vampire...disgusts me. It's typical fanservice trite involving a regular human dude getting sent to a high school for monsters and forming a harem consisting of a dual personality vampire girl, a succubus, two witches, and a snow fairy. Normally I wouldn't bat an eyelash towards this series if it weren't for the fact it bastardizes the source material down to basically "Panty Shots: the Anime." I love the manga. Read it from the start of high school and just finished a month or two ago. But the show is a stain on a rather good series.

Master of Martial Hearts is the other series that irks me. It's less the fanservice and more what it pulls in the final episode. What starts as a bunch of scantly clad woman fighting a tournament for whatever reason and ends with a grim, brutal, and just plain fucking disturbing reveal that comes out of nowhere...the losers are broken down to f*ck meat and become sex slaves.

I never understood the whole fan-service is bad thing deal. If a girl with big tits wearing skimpy clothing can prevent you from enjoying something that's you're business.

I guess To Love-Ru, since it is the only show I actually consider nothing but fan-service. You would need at least four hands to count all the panty shots and about ten to count all the awkward moments.

Ikki-fucking-tousen. The only anime I've ever tried to watch and went "Fuck this, I might aswell just go wank instead".
And it got 4 seasons (atleast) and all of them dubbed. Fucking how...

I would normally agree with a statement like that, but I just can't with HotD. The difference between HotD and other shows that exhibit that kind of crap, is that HotD wasn't pretending to be anything else, it wasn't pretending to be a romance, or "save the world" anime. It set out to do "Zombies, Guns, and Tits" and did just that without any pretense, which is something I can admire.
