Actually, an adult who was royalty and raised as such until she and her brother fled the country acting like that is pretty believable. She's got the royal sense of entitlement, but none of the actual experience to lead. I'm not sure what's stupid about that.
But she left as a baby (In the book) and she was like 8 or something in the context of the show.

She lived the majority of her life across the narrow sea. there are a couple of common sense things she should have picked up on.

In the book she was 13 and she acted like a stupid teenager
in the show she's a full grown adult and she acts like a stupid teenager.

My knowledge of the book is second hand so what ever, but she still acts like an angsty teen in the show and I don't like it.

New Zealand guy with the Japanese name is going to act condescending because someone from Western Europe has got an opinion.
No need to take it so personally buddy, not sure how my ethnicity is relevant in this discussion to be honest but now that you brought it up I've gotta let you know I'm a Korean guy with a Korean name living in New Zealand. Culturally, I'd say I'm about half-half. Anyhow, I don't really care where you're from and I certainly gave it no thought when quoting you. Apologies if that's the impression you got from me.

And I call out stupid generalizations when I see them too. Look, reading through your post I pretty much agree with you but I don't see why you have to resort to something as silly as a bullshit percentage when you can articulate yourself just fine. You can do better than that man!

When you think about it, Jubei gets his ass handed to him quite regularly, and there's actually very few of the main baddies that he kills by himself.

- Tessai almost murders the shit out of him untill Kagero's poison finally takes effect.
- Benisato nearly kills Jubei at the hotsprings, but Dakuan interferes.
- Jubei again gets punked by Benisato at the shrine, but is saved by Kagero. Benisato inturn then dies due to one of Yurimaru's wires.
- And Yurimaru would've likely killed Jubei had Zakuro not sent in that rat suicide bomber.

I think the only ones he kills completely on his own are Shijima and Genma.
That's a good point. If anything, I still think Jubei's a badass, but more because he survived than because it was easy.
The only one he seemed to defeat with any semblance of ease would be Reizo, the bee guy. After that there's really only faceless grunts and those mercs at the beginning.
Oh totally! That's actually what I really love about Ninja Scroll... The main hero is not the only hero who easily deals with his opponents. After his tussle with Tessai Jubei's gasping for air and propping himself up on his sword, because of how beat up he is. And then later you see him pull out a loose tooth. I mean, what's the point of getting invested in a fight scene if the hero is pushed to his limits, right?

Mass Effect 3: Citadel DLC

It's not sexualized like almost everything else shown here but it is still blatant fan service. Cheesy plot, all your favourite characters, lots of jokes (many of which break the fourth wall), all around silliness, you even host a party for everyone!. Yeah it was pretty awesome. Made purely for the fans.

The Citadel DLC is fanservice (and DLC) done perfectly: I fucking loved everything about it, from the Normandy's crew arguing the merits of the Hammerhead vs the Mako, to the NPCs on the Silver Strip complaining about problems you find in multiplayer, like the godawful random rewards system (NPC to supply officer: "You're the reason we're losing this war.").

OT

Sucker Punch: Yeah yeah, gratuitous panty and cleavage shots - get out of the fucking way, you're blocking the steampunk Reichswehr zombies!

Also F.E.A.R 2: It's not particularly offensive, but it is quite noticeable how the entire squad is fully armoured bar the single female character, who just has a sleeveless shirt and flak vest that exposes her midriff.
She is bad in Fear 2. She's out of place.
And it's especially bad, when all the other females, apart from adult Alma, are fully dressed.

That said, the rest of the squad is not well dressed, either. It's just they have a bit more on, so you don't notice as much. They are all wearing tshirts under flak jackets. It's just the males have long tshirsts, not too short ones.
If memory serves, she was only assigned to the squad as an expendable communications specialist through shenanigans on Armacham's part, in order to better realize their psychic experiments, which could serve as a good handwave for why she's comparatively under-dressed. But even then you'd think her superiors would say something about the dress code.
She is'nt part of the psychic unit, no. But, yes, you'd think the boss' would say something about dresscode.
Were the hell was she before, to be wearing that?!
"Alright listen up people: we will be supporting Delta Squad during the Fairview City operation. Preliminary reconnaissance confirms that en site hostiles are at battalion strength and we've had numerous reports of supernatural occurrences ever since the First Encounter Assault Recon unit went in. We are certain to face heavy resistance, possibly of an unknown kind, so I want this down by the book: shirts and sleeves team!"

Elfen Lied. Not because the fanservice itself is so bad, though it can be, but because there was actually some real potential for a great story in there.

ME: You should check out this show called Elfen Lied on Netflix. The story is good, the characters are tragic but captivating, and the music is painfully beautiful.

FRIEND: Sounds good. Maybe I'll try it.

ME: Also... also the main character pees herself.

FRIEND: ...

ME: But just once. *sips Coffey while looking friend in the eye*

FRIEND: Oh...

ME: But once you get past that, it's fine.

FRIEND: Okay...

ME: Also, the other main character then has to change her clothes. And then he starts dating his cousin. And then one of the female characters has her clothes torn off for no reason.

FRIEND: ...

ME: ...

*sips Coffey*
Oh yup. Elfen Lied definitely has potential, but then it goes off and spends half its time pandering.

When a show gets to the point where I'd be less embarrassed if somebody catches me watching actual porn, I'll not be finishing it.

As far as the sexy fanservice goes I have to say Daenerys Targaryen from the HBO Game of Thrones show.

In the book she's supposed to be 13 or something. But in the show she's like 26 and up. and they did that so she could be naked on screen. Even though her character is still written as a dumb emotional teenager.

an adult acting that way is stupid and it makes her unlikeable (Same with Rob Stark)

So there's my example of bad fanservice dragging a show's quality down.

Even though I'd estimate Danaerys' age in the show more around 17-19, I'd actually argue here that societal norms on behaviour at a certain age were a bigger reason than them being able to show her tits.
The book quite obviously goes for the medieval life expectancy, where a boy of 15 was considered mature, if still pretty green.

Never mind the ability to do sex scenes: a modern audience simply wouldn't be able to wrap their heads around the concept of kids between the ages of 14 and 17 leading armies (Danaerys, Jon, Robb), while in medieval terms that'd be nothing out of the ordinary.

If anything, the show cast its characters perfectly at an age the audience would expect them to be, given their behaviour.

No real woman in existance, has completely matching underwear, ever. If they're stupid, their underwear will match on very few occasions. No woman in any job that serious, goes round wearing a entire firetrucking matching set of underwear!
Especially not one who is supposed to be a hardcore CIA agent!
So my girlfriend is stupid? I don't know how women buy underwear and bras in clothing stores, but I always thought they came together.

OT
I'm genuinely surprised the big one has never come up. Perhaps one of the worst cases of fan service due to its effect on the internet.

I'm talking, of course, about Krystal Fox.

Why oh WHY is a dog in a skintight suit?
They buy them seperately. They don't come together. You go through a pair of knickers a day, minimum, but bras are worn for longer, most of the time.
They most definately don't come in sets all the time. You're far more likely buy a set of 3 or more knickers, and your bras seperately.
Female underwear most definately does not come in sets most of the time. And if it did get bought in a set, it's not staying in a set. One is going to go before the other does. Bras are sometimes expensive. Knickers are not. Sets are very expensive.

Do you realise how much effort it would be to match your knickers to your bra every day?! You'd NEVER STOP DOING WASHING! For one thing!

Either your girlfriend spends a insane ammount of money on underwear, or she's doing washing in every hour of her spare time!
Washing every hour of her spare time? Nope. Cost an insane amount of money? Nope. It would be super easy to match your underwear every day.

Step 1: Have 12 sets of underwear that match.
Step 2: Change both your underwear every day.

All 12 sets wouldn't even amount to half of a load of wash. And if you don't want to change your bra every day, buy 6 or 4 bras and 2 or 3 matching bottoms to each bra. This is not hard. I have been shopping with my wife before.

When you are done with the laundry put them together in your closet. It would take less than 5 extra minutes each week and require just a tiny bit more organization that shoving them in the drawer.

Now, I am not saying women should make the effort to match their underwear because who the hell cares, but it would be almost no extra effort. And it would not cost significantly more if the person planned ahead. Hell, it might even be cheaper because they go in with a plan.

My latest example would be the murakumo units from Blazblue. Even alone, I always blush when Noel shows up in Mu form. Heck, even she realizes she looks ridiculous.

Have you ever matched socks? Same idea. She showers every night and changes clothes accordingly. Does a laundry load about once a week. All she'd need to suffice is 7 sets at any time. It doesn't seem all that hard to match underwear to begin with regardless. Having *ahem* examined the materials up-close, they appear to be made by the same company and have identical patterns, which suggests to me they come in sets. They're not anything spectacular either, so it isn't lingerie.

I have seen many many of what some you call fanservice which is really cheesecake but no need to worry about terms now but my vote goes to one and one show only.

Eiken Club in those two episodes of its existence it caused me to not even consider or think much of other fanservice moments in series because by comparison it just doesn't stack up.

Also I am in the camp of letting High School of the Dead alone because it knew what it was and it delivered if you went in expecting anything else I don't what to say. And disclaimer don't make a drinking game out of the fan service moments in that show just don't.

In the film, at least. In SAC, it was really jarring to see the Major wandering around the office without pants on. And no, I don't buy the excuse that in the future, nobody really cares about modesty standards in cybernetic bodies. She's the only one who really does it, and there is no reason other than to show off her legs. It also doesn't help that her tactical armor looks way better.
In the manga it's even worse. Masamune Shirow sure does like his bronzed, gleaning female bodies.[/quote]

Not to mention the four page lesbian porn non-sequitur.

Asuka's plugsuit in Rebuild 2 was petty fucking ridiculous. It made it impossible for me to take the following dramatic scene in any way serious. 'Oh no, Asuka is in danger... while wearing a plugsuit with a conveniently transparent torso section, showing off he bra, the crack of her ass, and nearly her cootch. Oh the humanity!' That movie can go fuck itself just for that scene alone.
I was just going to say that.

I believe Anno was quoted as saying that Evangelion 2.22 was made to "destroy Evangelion" (which perfectly explains a lot of choices and the existence of Mari) by giving the fans who didn't understand what NGE was about what they wanted, so he could tear it all down again even harder with Evangelion 3.33 (while drinking otaku tears like he normally does) which is the even more NGE than, uh, NGE. I'll see if I can find the citation on that quote.

So if "destroying Evangelion" was the reason for the stupid ass plugsuit, it certainly succeeded.
I remember it being mentioned that a pilot could sync better with an Eva the less there was between them and the LCL. So, Ideally, they'd all just be naked like Melfina in Outlaw Star, Biomerged tamers, and pilots in Aquarion Evol. But they didn't do that.

Also, it's marketing and fanservice.

I can't remember what it's called, but that anime that was a reimagining of the Nintendo vs Sega bit wars was ruined for me by the ecchi (well mostly the fact it was terrible, but the ecchi is what made me quit after two episodes).

I quite enjoyed Ikki Tousen though, but mostly because I love Dynasty Warriors. :3

I dunno, maybe I was just expecting a show about a High School of the Dead? Even dig linearly into horror setting, infection premise, etc., and you still have plenty of story potential.

People aren't stupid for attributing the...'sexuality' of the show as the main point, whether they hate that aspect or do not.

Neither is the show smarter for claiming awareness of the aspect. Still just boobs in your face. The only thing that this says to me, or what I can see as a creator's audience is, "Look at me! This is what my (sub)culture allows me to do!". And yet, 'self-aware' ecchi, or most ecchi really, can have at least passably entertaining stories and premises. At least. It's to the point where not only does the ecchi get in the way of the story, but I can only take it as the story now actually isn't as important as the ecchi.

I dunno, perhaps most likely I'm just voicing out of more sexually prudish western mindset, but really, I cringe imagining the alternative cultural tones (that the trend of ecchi somewhat suggests).

In gaming, the second half of MGS4 is blatant fanservice. The whole beauty pageant in Persona 4. Also, Mass Effect 3: Citadel is entirely built around fanservice, and it was great.

It is important to point out not all fanservice is bad. If you are one of the people that care about the characters and the fanservice is in an independent bubble outside the main narrative, it can be done pretty awesomely. That is the difference between Citadel (DLC) and Persona 4 (sidequest not affecting the main narrative) with MGS4 (the entire ending).

Was not trying to say people were stupid just that High of the Dead delivers on what it promise to deliver. I don't think it was trying to "smart" or "self aware" it was just hyper violence and boobs in the face and interesting body positions and it doing it enjoy it or don't that is how I see HoTD. Plus I have plenty of ecchi with nice stories nothing academy award winning but enjoyable stories. So I see where you are coming from.

Also it probably the same in Japan some like it some don't. I

If anyone deals with his opponents easily, it's Tessei. Let's be honest, if not for his exceedingly poor choice of "evening entertainment", it's unlikely Jubei would've gotten out of that alive either. But before that, he basically just mows down everyone like wheat.

I just started Elfen Lied (getting the shorter ones done first, not because of this), having heard it has a lot of fan service. The theme tune has tits. Well, that was fast.

Its pretty funny seeing how ridiculous some of the nudity is but also noticing the places they turn down an obvious opportunity for nudity. Like when when she pissed her self I thought 'oh FFS, really? catering to piss fetishes?' then I realized it was just an excuse to get both women naked in the shower, then they surprisingly didn't go for a frontal shot.

...Better not check out any anime art sites... especially tags with the word "Loli" or "Ecchi" in them.

or the videogames Tera, most MMO's these days.

or the anime KissxSis, Heaven's Lost Property, Dears, R-15, Sekai no Qwaser, No Game No Life, This Ugly Yet Beautiful World, My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute or Godannar (the list could go on XD).

Also... I enjoy Ecchi but I really hated Elfen Lied... it wasn't a good story. I have no idea why people went crazy over it at the time.
