Look, you guys... Tron got neither a sequel nor a remake. Daft Punk made a 2-hour-long music video starring Jeff Bridges and Olivia Wilde that loosely borrowed some concepts from Tron, and it was way more awesome than any sequel or remake could have been.
:p That's probably the best description of Legacy that I've ever heard.

And since everyone here is obsessing over Tron anyways, I'll post a video that I'm sure we've all already seen:

Why do people complain about remakes? It's not like the remake makes the original shit if it's made poorly.
People complain about remakes because they're just obscenely lazy. "Can't come up with your own original idea that will engage audiences and become an instant classic? Screw it! Just remake someone else's classic idea and you'll get paid just the same!"

Seriously, when you ask Hollywood to come up with original ideas, the crap that comes out is radioactive dog shit. That's why everything these days is based off an 80's cartoon, a book, a comic book, "based on true events", or a remake of an older movie. It's safer to invest in an IP that has proven to make money rather than dare to try and come up with your own ideas.

Why is Hollywood remaking shitty movies? Did they run out of good movies to remake?
Red Dawn was not shit.
Red Dawn was total shit. But those are the movies you want to remake, the ones with good premises but bad execution.

Wait worst thing since Tron being remade? when was Tron remade?

The worst thing about Hollywood is that they pretend they are in the business of making films, when in reality they are a bank.

Hey, Hollywood, I dare you to remake 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Citizen Kane and Dirty Harry.
A new Dirty Harry could potentially be pretty awesome if they got the right actors.

Red Dawn was pretty shit. The premise was stupid and the entire thing was a two hour long propaganda machine.

Considering 2001: A Space Odyssey has not aged well at all a remake couldn't hurt. You can slam me if you want to, but did they really need to show the ship landing very slooooooooooooowly for 15 bloody minutes?

2001 is big idea sci-fi. It's not about providing the audience with instant gratification, it's about discussing human evolution and progress, and the dangers of it.
I'm well aware of what the film is about, but that still doesn't excuse a 15 minute long excessively boring landing sequence.

Says you. Personally, I don't think the film is boring in the slightest.
Yes says me. I also says that the afor mention landing sequence could've been cut down to a tenth it's length and the film would've lost nothing for it and I would've enjoyed the film a whole lot more.

As Mark Kermode often cites, 2001 is a film that took viewers from the dawn of man to the birth of a new species in two hours. In spite of what some...younger viewers think, 2001 isn't slow at all. Hell, it has one of the most disturbing deaths in cinematic history (the astronaut suffocating in space, in pure silence).

Do you want a slow movie which is about the same topic? Watch The Tree of Life. That movie is complete garbage! 2001 on the other hand is perfect and making a remake of it would be a crime. Well, maybe I'd just cut a few minutes from the psychdelic scenes.

On topic, I liked Red Dawn, though I can't really defend it on any kind of objective basis. It's also significantly better than any of the jingoistic nonsense Michael Bay puts out. The American military isn't an all-powerful juggernaut that should be applauded simply for being awesome, but instead a vulnerable force that can be defeated and driven off it's own territory. I'd much rather watch the Wolverines and the Soviets floundering in cultural and ideological incomprehension of one another than yet another paean to uniforms that happen to contain men. Red Dawn is cheesy and absurd, but I wouldn't mind seeing it remade, if for no other reason than to see Texans forced to wave Cuban flags.

Whatever. Don't really see the point in remaking Red Dawn unless they make it relevant for today's audience. But they won't. Because Hollywood suck.

Also, Tron Legacy wasn't a remake. It was a sequel. It still blew chunks though.
That would be an interesting movie to say the least. If they kept it the same, foreign superpower invades, is fought off by ragtag guerrilla's......

Two things that Hollywood is doing that makes me facepalm.

First is remaking The Birds. The film fell through, but even considering it is facepalm worthy. I mean, a remake of "Psycho" didn't generate much profit, and failed critically, even earning two Golden Raspberries, with a third nomination. Why would you even think about trying to top Hitchcock again?

Second is the remake of "Queen of the Desert". It's not the idea that is facepalm worthy...it is who has been cast as the new Lawrence of ARabia.

Seriously, Robert Pattinson?!

2001 remake? That would never happen.
I hope it does happen as I would drink the ragetears of the fanboys like it was the nectar of the gods.

It's not discussing anything, it's showing you stuff and giving the viewer the freedom to think what they will, thus making any and all viewpoints valid, thus making any and all dicussiong about the meaning of it pointless.
Steve Trousers-Down Pervy O'Blimey thinks 2001 has the meaning of life hidden deep within the celuloid? Valid.
Michael O'Holligan thinks it's a boring, pretentious over-analyzed special effects demo? Valid.
