Worst Valve game?

The worst one for me would have to be Left 4 Dead 2. It felt more rushed and definitely more unfinished than the first. What do you think?

Please explain your logic. It was a sequel game. And much was added while maintaining the basics of gameplay.

And I can honestly say I have not played a Valve game I didn't enjoy. Half-Life? Obvious masterpiece. L4D series? original and surprisingly time consuming (I have played over 400 hours of it according to Steam). Counter-Strike? Potentially the best multiplayer game ever. Team Fortress? Right up there with CS.

There's also the more minor games like Day of Defeat, Zombie Panic, Deathmatch, etc. All very entertaining.

Well, I personally can't stand Counter-Strike (or Counter-Strike: Source) when playing online, but that's more to do with the players than the game. The game itself is pretty solid.

Among friends, I don't mind it.

What's wrong with L4D2, it didn't take long and it improved on every aspect of the original. The stale, repetitive environments of L4D1 (though acceptable due to the game's aesthetic) where replaced by stages that not only felt distinct, but played differently as well. All in all the game had GALLONS more personality then the first.

The only real complaint I can make is that the character of Rochelle was underdeveloped.

As for Valve's "Cars" if you will, hmm... I guess Ricochet? I've never played it but I don't think Gabe's too proud of it.

I didn't enjoy the Left 4 Dead games but I wouldn't call them bad by any means. Just not for me.

You know, the fact that I own a large number of the valve games, and don't like the majority of them is strange.... I didn't like L4D or L4D2, because they're horrible without at least one other human player, I didn't like Team Fortress/TF2 because of a similar lack of ability to play with other people in a fixed-class shooter similar to battlefield 2 etc.. I haven't yet played counter strike (no flames plz), but I loved Portal, Half Life and sequels, HL2 and it's sequels and portal 2.

It's probably pretty obvious where that line is drawn for me. These are mostly computer games, and most people I know either don't have a good enough internet connection to play or the powerful hardware to run the game in the first place. playing on a console has it's own problems of either spit screening or multiple copies of the game.

I don't get it, what's so great about multiplayer games? yeah, sure, DDR, Guitar Hero and Deff Jamz Rapstar are awesome multiplayer games, but they don't require the entire screen and can switch between drunken friends very easily. But, none of those are *online* multiplayer. perhaps there's something bound to that.

I think Valve is missing the mark by putting out these online-based multiplayer games, I don't even know a person IRL that spends more then a single hour a week playing one.

Team Fortress 2 on the Xbox 360. I mean TF is great, but they give the computer users everything and Xbox gets nothing!

But besides that I love all of Valves games.

Oh, and welcome to the escapist.

Half Life 2. Gimmicky, poorly written, a massive step down from the previous game, and poisonous to the industry.
The rest of their games vary a little more in quality.

I was going to mention TF2 on the 360. It's great but hearing about the PC version makes it feel like the TF2 found in the Orange Box is more like a demo than anything else.

i would have to say Left 4 Dead 2 is valves worst, it was planned to be DLC then it had to much content to be DLC (Debatable) then it was planned to be a Expansion pack witch is what i see L4D2 as.. its just a expansion pack not a real sequel in my eyes

anyone here played GTA IV's lost and dammed or ballad of gay tony? Rockstar could of just as easily combined both TLAD and TBOGT touched up liberty city and shipped it as a new title

im not saying L4D2 is Bad no no no, im just saying in comparison to everything else valve have released l4d2 has to be the worst Actual standalone game and would of been much better off as DLC or as an Expansion pack

i mean come on... look at that DLC for "The Passing" that gave both 1&2 the first campaigns of each other :|

in terms of being a cash grab Left 4 Dead 2 takes that spot for me witch makes me view it as one of valves worst games

I've been told that the 360 version lacks majorly in comparison to the PC version... never tried it myself.

I can't think of one Valve game that I didn't enjoy. The fans of said games, yeah. But I love the games themselves.

Hmm, in what aspects was HL1 better then 2?

OT: Alien Swarm was weak but that was really just someones garage project and free, so you can't really complain.
The other one was L4D2, not that the game is bad just how it was handled, they released it just after L4D and they knew that would kill the online experience for everyone who bought it, atleast give those people some discount if you intend to screw them like that.

Well that's a hard question, I don't think there has been a Valve game yet that I haven't spent large amounts of time playing and replaying. I guess I spent the least amount of time was Alien Swarm, but I'm not even sure if that counts since that was free.

AAAAH don't make me choose D,:

Left 4 Dead 2 didn't win me over... I'll admit I had fun playing it and what a wild ride it was trying to stagger through each campaign on normal diff with 4 players. The added extras such as the special infected, characters, items and guns felt like they could've been dlc, as in they didn't do much to change the stakes of the game up to a point where'd you'd notice them.

But hey what could they have done to make a sequel worthy enough you ask?... Well honestly I didn't think Left 4 Dead needed a sequel tbh. It was originally a mod just like Killing Floor is atm. And the first game only had a few campaigns and mechanics... The stuff in the second game could've been implemented into the first making it more than what it was.

It's still essentially the same game... It doesn't have much for a better graphics engine.

Part of the reason why I didn't like it as much as the first was how the first one liked me a lot. Though I do believe in my honest opinion that Left 4 Dead 1 was easier to strategize and survive in it was not because of the added difficulty of the game but rather the mechanics of the campaign (well l4d2 did have endless respawning enemies... which sucks balls imo).

To be fair, the original Counter Strike wasn't really developed by Valve. It started out as a fan mod for Half-Life, which came with a rather powerful level editor.

I would want to say Blue-shift, but that wasn't Valve either. So I'll just say Episode 3, just because the bloody thing was supposed to have come out years ago! (sorry, somebody was eventually going to bring up Ep3/HL3. Figured it might as well be me...)

Half Life 1.

Awesome for its time, but I don't think it has aged well.
