It's been talked about on this site before, but many "War" games fail to capture the feeling that your actually fighting a war. More often then not, it feels like your re-enacting the latest Rambo movie. So my question is, would you play a game that's more of a war sim?

A game were most of the time your grinding through monotonous crap, and most missions you carry out end without combat? There's no restart or checkpoints, when an operation fails it actualy FAILS. And you can actually lose the war?

Would you play a game like that? I would

sounds like Dead Rising but instead of zombies it's "insurgents"

that game let you fail missions as well and keep playing despite that

I want a real war game. I wanna sit behind a desk and fill out papers about combat operations or logistics.

It'd be a god damn blast.

DO YOU HEAR ME MAXIS?! I WANT SIMARMY!

I believe the closest thing you will get to that is Operation Flashpoint or Arma(from what I hear).

No, because as soon as I was shot, I would have to spend a lot of time sitting around in a hospital trying to entertain myself, like in the beginning of Catch 22.

Operation Flashpoint did a pretty decent job at it. Not perfect, but you get the whole "FUCKFUCKFUCK If I'm hit then I'm fucked! Running time!".

After being in Iraq for a year, this is the greatest thing I seen in a while.

Was the new Medal of Honor realistic? I mean, that's what they prided themselves on. "Developed in association with the Armed Services", right?

You mean like ArmA II? I've been thinking about getting it for a while, but I'm still not sure if it's something I would enjoy yet or not. It does sound pretty crazy though. Spending tons of time planning ambushes, getting everyone into position as an enemy convoy approaches, only for it to all go to hell when the actual shooting begins.

there's a reason no one actually likes war. war SUCKS. it is a plague among humanity and has been known to cause deep psychological scars in participants. also its mostly dull. so, uh no.

Does Maxis even still exist?
I'm in if it means going through an 8-week boot camp to purchase the game. Should weed out all the annoying pissants from the online play.

No. No I wouldn't. The beauty of video games is saving your progress and having multiple attempts to achieve a goal should you fail (over and over and over again in the case of "Mile High").

'Sides, I don't really like war games anyway. I heart escapism and fantasy and crap like that in my games.

Well, a problem is that it would also weed out those of us whose attitudes are generally considered agreeable, but aren't the most in shape. >.>

Anyway... If I have to fill out forms in triplicate for something, it better be on PC. :p
Whatever fatty.

I wouldn't, although I might just play a real pirate sim. Sailing for days on end, doing mundane boring errands on the ship, shitting your guts because of scurvy, etc.
