I texted this to a friend and he was surprised people still use the word tomboy, I'm not really aware that people stopped using it maybe he just......anyway, this thread isn't about that. This thread is about you would be okay about being in a relationship with a member of the opposite sex, who displays traits of your sex. They aren't your dream partner or your ideal partner, just a partner who happens to be a tomboy/tomgirl. As for me, I'm bisexual so I wouldn't really have a problem either way.

inb4 shitstorm of gender roles of society or some other bullshit

I would have a hard time dating anyone I don't have lots in common with.

Hmm, let me see, how would I feel about dating a tomboy/tomgirl...

Thanks, Timon.

...tomgirl is a term that exists? (looks it up)...huh, I did not know that. Yeah, I wouldn't mind being in a relationship with a tomboy.

Are they hot?

Because I'm incredibly shallow, my criteria for partners is simply
1.must be nice to look at.
2.must not be obnoxious.

That leaves a lot of breathing room for other stuff.

I don't think it's really an established phrase. There are a bunch of contradictory definitions floating about.

I'd date a Chelsea queen type of guy, but I'm not keen on physical androgyny.

I think the established term is "sissy," although it's not used as much these days because it's got homophobic connotations.

OT: How tomboyish are we talking? There's certainly benefits to having a girlfriend who likes the kind of things that guys like, but it could get difficult if she was more manly than I am XD

1) Why would I not try to be in a relationship with someone who I felt could be my ideal partner?

2) I have no idea what "traits of my sex" is supposed to mean. If you mean gender-based stereotypes, then I would hope either myself or my partner fitting such stereotypes would be purely incidental, and it's certainly not something I'd give much thought to when choosing a partner.

I see nothing wrong with this. Fairly certain mine IS to a reasonable degree.

Tomgirl is actually a word? I had no idea. I thought the term was Metro or is that specifically for guys who just take care of their appearance?

Anyway it depends; I don?t give a shit about gender roles and what the traits of sex are supposed to be. Though obviously the guy would have to be fun to hang around and we would have to have a lot in common. Since I?m not particularly into ?girly? things the chances of me dating a guy who is into that sort of thing is not high.

Does she play video games? If yes, problem solved. If she can fix my car, even better.

Side note, there actually is a traffic 'security' system called Skynet in Southern Arizona.

I like tomboys and tomgirls. At first I thought it was a bi thing (if I like both sexes surely it makes sense that I prefer people who have traits of both sexes?) but actually I think it's more that I just have a thing for people who break gender roles. (A feminist fetish, maybe? :p )

My ex was a bit tomboyish- if anything it meant we had more in common and i could relate to her better.
