WWE Legends Reveal 2K15 Game Roster

Hulk Hogan, Sting and others reveal the roster for 2K's newest WWE game at pre-Summer Slam event

October's WWE 2K15 will be the first game from the venerable sports-entertainment company [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/wwe] designed for the new generation of gaming platforms, and to mark the occasion they opted to roll out an all-star panel of big-name talent to introduce the game's roster of playable characters the day before their big Summer Slam Pay Per-View event.

With Renee Young and "Attitude Era" fixture Stone Cold Steven Austin serving as emcees, the panelists included Hulk Hogan, Cesaro, Roman Reigns, current World Heavyweight Champion John Cena (who appears on the game's cover), "Celtic Warrior" Sheamus and former WCW legend Sting - who only recently signed with WWE for the first time. Amid the roster reveals, they took questions from the hosts, the audience and eachother reflecting on their careers, futures, regrets and "dream matches." A highlight: Sting remains famously fixated on a hypothetical match against The Undertaker, who has not made a public appearance since the high-profile end of his 21 victory streak at Wrestlemania XXX. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/moviesandtv/columns/highdefinition/11247-Rassle-Dazzle-A-Wrestlemania-Recap]

The roster is now set to include Hulk Hogan, Sting (both "Surfer Sting" and "Crow" personas), The Wyatt Family, Roman Reigns, Chris Jericho, Dolph Ziggler, Fandango, Sheamus, The Big Show, Damien Sandow, Brock Lesnar, Dean Ambrose, Batista, The Usos, AJ Lee, Big E, Jack Swagger, Tyson Kidd, Darren Young, Rey Mysterio, The Bella Twins, Titus O'Neil, The Rock, Seth Rollins, Kofi Kingston, R-Truth, Justin Gabriel, Naomi, Daniel Bryan, Xavier Woods, The Miz, Tamina (Snuka), Rob Van Dam, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Cesaro, John Cena, Randy Orton, Goldust, Shawn Michaels and Triple-H. Sting will initially appear as a pre-order bonus, while a special "Hulkamania Edition" [http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/games/wwi-2k15/hulkmania-edition/hulkmania/hulk-hogan/hollywood-hogan/PS4/Xbox_One/PS3/Xbox_360/release-date/collectors-edition/wwe-2k15-hulkmania-edition-gives-you-exactly-what-you-want-it-to/17215] will allow players to unlock Hogan in his "evil" Hollywood Hogan alternate-persona.

In a somewhat eyebrow-raising moment, the presenters/panelists remained largely silent when CM Punk (who is no longer with the company) was announced - though the assembled press and fans cheered loudly at the reveal.

I'm glad Rusev isn't in it, him and Lana try way too hard to be heels. They just throw it in people's faces that they're bad, I prefer people like the Wyatts who are more subtle, who could really go either way at times. Even the Real Americans when they were really strongly anti-illegals could be seen as both good guys and bad guys depending on your own political views. Rusev is a lot like Brock Lesnar, no actual personality of his own so he has to let someone else do the talking though at least Paul Heyman is funny and has a brilliant history.

Man, I used to love watching wrestling but ever since this PG13 era started, I just haven't found it entertaining at all. Reading that list of characters and the newest ones I recognize are Cena and Orton. Shit, the last time I watched was just a couple after Batista power bombed Randy for winning the belt and that was the end of Evolution.

Chris Jericho and the Rock taking the piss out of Stephanie McMahon was hilarious! Taking about how little Stephanie turned into big Stephanie (obviously referencing her boobs) Stone Cold stunning everybody, D-X were the anti-heros ... it was so awesome but now it's so crap.

Now, would you ever see Cena do anything like that?

If WWE programming is supposedly lackluster these days, it's for more complex reasons than there just being less swearing and tits, believe me.

OT: Overall, that's a pretty good roster, and it's awesome to see Sting finally make an appearance in WWE game! Although, it doesn't surprise me at all that WWE employees are still being instructed to remain quiet about a certain Chicagoan.
You know just a minute after I read this I was watching the rock say "the wwe has gone from the powerful Austin 3:16 era to the dominant and the iconic can you smell what the rock is cookin' ALLL the way to *girly voice* you can't see me".

It's not just about swearing and tits, it's about the general vibe ... the "heels" are more like mid soles and the faces and fucking angels. It's all too sterile, well, there are one or two names that are slightly porno ... "Dolph Ziggler" for example

I'm a guy that hasn't owned a WWE game since Here Comes The Pain, which I still play to this day. My absolute favorite is No Mercy, which I don't play solely because I got one of the "bad" cartridges that will initialize and erase all your data, and I don't have a memory card to save my created characters.

I don't remember which game came after Here Comes The Pain, but I remember renting it and not liking it. Every game since then seemed like nothing more than the same old, with shinier graphics, so I've always passed. But damnit if I'm not interested in being able to have Sting fight The Rock.

Is this gonna be a rehash of the same fighting engine that they've been using since the Playstation 2 days? Because if so, I'll pass.

I'm sitting here looking at this list and seeing a distinct lack of Sami Zayn. Or any NXT dudes, really.

Which is weird, considering current gen is supposed to have that MyCareer thing...

I'll say to you what I've said to every other person who's thrown the 'PG Era' argument in my face, just because it's not more adult, doesn't make it bad.

As much as I love the Attitude Era, a lot of the stuff they did there was the very definition of cheap and exploitative. Just like how John Cena exists today to appeal to the really young children, Steve Austin was there to appeal to the teenagers who thought swearing was cool. Seriously, every single 'gritty' thing you can point at from that period in WWE was nothing but a calculated stunt.

There are still phenomenal performers working for WWE, and the existence of hokey mascots like Cena, and a shift away from more extreme content doesn't invalidate the work they do.
It kind of does, seen powerbomb, seen them all ... same goes for everything else, all irish whips are the same, all clothes lines are the same, seen one persons finisher and they will repeat it 100 times more.

What makes WWE so entertaining are the stories and they don't have the intensity they had. You felt like the Rock and Jericho hated Rhino, Booker and Steph.

Last time I watched it, it was more petty ... well, you interfered in my match, so I will interfere in yours. The banter comes down to "I'm the best and you suck", "no! I'm the best and you suck".

Speaking of interfering in matches, it got to a point where it was almost certain a match would be interrupted, it should be a surprise when it happens and not a regular occurrence. Maybe it's me realizing how hammed up it is, compared to when I was a kid, seeing how it looks more like power rangers than a pseudo competition.

The guys are in great shape and some of the things they do are incredible but their talents are being wasted.

I only just picked up WWE 2K14 and so far I like how it seems to be more challenging than WWE 12 & 13 but, and unless I am missing something, the matches seem a lot shorter on "normal" mode. I've tried messing with the balance sliders and am managing to get somewhere without making it seem too easy or too hard on legend difficulty.

One thing I have noticed is that the grapple-blocking system seems to have been altered and not in a good way. Before if you blocked a grapple, the PC would transition to a grapple state of his/her own or break the hold with an escape move. Now it seems like it's escape moves only, which doesn't quite sit well with me.

Aaaanyway....

I like the sound of the "Career" mode in which you create a wrestler (and it's a real bugger having to re-create my custome wrestler with every new game, lemme tell ya!) and then play him through a career, starting in NXT - I've been after something like this for ages!

Back in the real world, I am somewhat concerned for WWE - the amount of personnel being "released" is getting daft. That said I am liking the fact that there are some more tweeners - guys like Jack Swagger and Roman Reigns who are nominally face but are still pretty badass. Also, as much as I am a babyface supporter, I have to say that the Wyatt Family gimmick is pure gold and Rotunda is perfect for the role of Bray.

I hope that Daniel Bryan is back soon as he is so over with the fans it's unreal - his matches are always entertaining and he's never afraid to try something new. He's a great worker and I am always a sucker for the little-guy / underdog characters.

For a minute there, I thought you were going to say "unlock Hogan in his evil backstage persona."

Seriously, out-of-kayfabe Hogan? Not a good person.

If you speak Bulgarian you can tell Rusev is having the time of his life.

Just before you go into the match, after you've picked your wrestlers, the same screen where you pick your ring and the matches stipulations, look at the bottom of the screen. I think it's R1 (RB) and L1 (LB) to change the match length. I believe it starts on normal by default but you can change it to "long" or "epic" which should make the match 20 - 40 minutes in length. Been a while since I played WWE 2K14.

I remember reading about it earlier and there were some glaring omissions that simply have to be in the game. The decision to reveal the likes of say Tyson Kidd was a little odd to me...but I suppose you can kind of count him as an NXT guy now FACT! I know he talks about being a big time Raw superstar but he is there to job to the rising stars FACT! Oh and I do like the fact gimmick...FACT! I'll make International Airstrike the NXT champs I suppose.

Anyway all I ask for is #Mmmgorgeous, The Gorgeous One, Prince Pretty, King of Cuteville Tyler Breeze. I know who'll be my world champion in universe mode if he is in.

As for the state of WWE today some people are talking about. Firstly the wrestling itself is today better than ever, and the performers have a lot of talent and quality. The main roadblock for a lot of these talented guys is the booking is all over the place and they don't strike while the iron is hot.
Cesaro for example if they struck after Wrestlemania could have been placed into a match with Lesner at Summerslam, but now? Lucky to even be in the pre show match.

On the bright side the creation modes on these games are usually good enough that you could create the guys you want anyway sans their intro vid and music.

On the not so bright side in this era of gaming the absence of someone could mean they are future dlc characters.

The main thing I miss is the colorful characters from the earlier eras. It just seems like all of them are just guys with boring names and Calvin Klein underwear for costumes with bland personalities to go with all that.

I miss WCW I wish the WCW INVASION thing was better instead of using all the wcw n00bs such a dumb fail. And without WCW as said above WWE has gone so stale, bland personalities boring cookie cutter guys. TNA just aint no contest really either.

Sting is still my fav and im hoping TNA is not his last known place that would kinda suck but i dont want WWE to lame Sting up like they did with the other wcw guys

Bad News Barrett? Bray Wyatt? Fandango? Stardust? Today isn't 2003-2005 Raw or anything like that.

WWE had a very stale period under Johnny Ace but its far more watchable today due to the influence of Triple H. As for the WCW guys being treated like Jobbers...they knew what they were in for. Vince seemed to make it very clear that for the crime of being on the side of his competition that he was going to have them stare at the lights for every single member of "his boys". If the likes of DDP who was incredibly popular and a main event talent got completely annihilated by Bikertaker what hope do you think the other guys ever had?
RVD was the only one who escaped it really as the fans loved him so he got to enjoy beating up WWF heels instead of being squashed by WWF faces.

Sting may well never make an appearance in person, and they'd not ruin him I assure you. Getting Sting on side is something WWE have been trying for a long time and I doubt its so they can have him job to X person especially considering the age of Sting at this point.
