Could we have the numbers separated into how many Arcade/Premium/Elite systems die? Neither my brother's nor my own 360 have red ringed as of yet and we both bought Elites. I'd be interested to see how high the number was for each individual console build (including PS3s with different setups of course).
This is pretty much what I was thinking: I would also like to see the failure rate percentages by year. This story is also extremely ironic when you consider the claims people had been making earlier that the Escapist News team was biased against Sony somehow.

When mine died out of warranty, I got a new one without hesitation. Out of the current generation, it's the greatest source of pure, liquid Fun.

The newer versions are still failing all the damn time, i got a 360 elite (again) brand new because my other one broke, it was one of the new ones and it broke in ONE FUCKING WEEK, now i have a PS3 and it beats the 360 by miles, no fanboy flamethrowers needed

5000 people hardly seems like hard evidence especially since its taking their word for it. and if you have the newer ones(like i do) theyre less likely to break down. and to the person above me. have you even thought of sending it in to be repaired or using the warranty if it did supposably break down in a week the temporary warranty would cover it so to me it seems like it was YOUR stupidity.

I've had 3 360's and they all have had 1 problem or another.

First one got the red ring a few times, I got fed up and just destroyed it. It was glorious.
Second one scratched 2 of my games to hell. Wasn't under warrenty, so I just stored it away.
Third got the E74, thankfully microsoft extended the warrenty.

And what was I doing to my 360's you may ask?
Why all I was doing was playing games.
All consoles were in an open envornment, off the ground, and away from anything that could damage them.

fucking microsoft...

My 360 has never really died, it's red ringed once because i didn't plug it in at the tv propyl and it's been in for some minor problems like it wouldn't play games just play movies and that it became louder and slower than ever but i got those two issues fixed. But my 360 still soldiers on.

I also bet that microsoft as programmed it so it red rings once and then as soon as the warranty wears out it will red ring again. It's quite genius of microsoft so they earn even more money.

i've had my elite for over three years, and up until last week the only problem i had was constant freezing. it wasn't until i started playing Fallout 3 that i got the RRoD. so even the first generation Elites aren't immune to it either.

I hate the other 45.8%.

OT: I could have used this news six months ago. Since then my fateful purchase had five failures on my 360. I said it once and I will say it again. Microsoft should not participate in the next console generation. I don't know who in the hell would put themselves through this shit again. I doubt even fanboys are that stupid.

the problem with that theory is that even if the console is out of warranty, they'll repair it for free if it RRoDs.

So let me see if I've got this straight. My current happy marriage to a wonderful Canadian woman aside (let's say she gets hit by a bus or something), I would have a better chance of making a lasting marriage with a random American woman plucked off the street that didn't end in divorce than I would of buying an Xbox 360 and not having it RROD on me.

That's just...well, fucked up, and I'm glad I'm a PC gamer, where at least if my computer goes blooey I can crack it open and fix it myself rather than having to wait for the Microsoft underpants gnomes to do it for me, followed by ??? and Profit.

Thats worse odds than russian roulette.
Not bad going Microsoft.

I've known quite a few people that said their 360 was the first console to ever break on them. Thats why Im dreading buying one, considering every console I have brought since the Sega Megadrive worked for me until they were forced to make way for another console.

What I'm wondering is how much money this is costing MS. They lost millions before. This will only make it worse.
