Xbox Live Indies Rise Up to Prove They Don't Suck

There may be a lot of junk on the Xbox Live Indie Games marketplace, but a smattering of developers want to prove they can create great content too.

The games found on the Xbox Live Indie Games marketplace are a unique bunch. Some are of super high quality for their $1-$5 price tags, while others will make you wish that you'd used that money for a pack of Life Savers. A section of the hardcore Xbox Live Indie Games development community understands that it can be hard to determine what's a jewel and what's just plain crap, and has joined together to show everyone how good a $1 game can be.

In the control your farts [http://www.indiegames-uprising.com/], these developers want to show that there are real games available on the service too.

The Winter Uprising will bring both sequels and brand new titles. In the first week of December, 14 games will be released on XBLIG in multiple genres with a cost range from 80 to 400 Microsoft Points. They will include Soulcaster 2, a sequel to the original Gauntlet/tower defense game, Cthulhu Saves the World, a new retro RPG from Zeboyd games of The Dishwasher [http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Breath-of-Death-VII/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802585504bd?cid=search], and more.

The full list can be found here [http://www.indiegames-uprising.com/]. If wading through the games about flatulence on XBLIG is getting you down, try taking a look at what's coming in the Winter Uprising to guide your way instead. A few dollars really can go a long way if you make the right choices.

I have found 2 or 3 indie titles on the Xbox worth mentioning....well, if I could remember them I would. But unfortunately about 98% of the indie titles are cheap money grabs for those odds-and-ends gold points still left after buying "real" games. It reached the point where I just stopped caring to look unless I specifically read about or heard of a decent review of a particular indie title.

If Cthulhu Saves The World lives up to the quality and humor of Breath of Death, I'll be happy. But I'll be even happier if it expands on the gameplay. Even so, for up to 5 dollars, I doubt I can complain at all about it. Breath of Death has my vote for best game for a dollar.

Cthulhu Saves the World,
for dessert, usually.
Really? I always figured the world had some kinda midnight-snack feeling.

OT: This is great news. I'll probably pick up a lot of these considering I can actually afford them.

I only bought one game off the indie marketplace.
Kodu, it sucks. It was created for Microsoft to have its own LittleBigPlanet (I haven't seen any better explanation), and, as mentioned, it sucks.
It was cheap, and I got what I paid for, but it could have been better.

I bought Breath of Death VII and 'Spoltion Man those two were worth the money. However I passed over so many games while finding those two. It makes me sad to see so many bad games in that mix.

I really hope the folks that made Breath of Death VII are involved in this, the best dollar I ever spent was on that game. So much old school nerdy rpg fun..*crosses fingers for Breath of Death VIII*

EDIT-I'm assuming the guys that made Breath of Death VII are the ones working of Cthulu saves the world, in which case Hooray! Still a Breath of Death VIII would be nice. :3

Aphelion
Breath of Death VII
Shoot1Up

Yes, there is a lot of dross but there are some gems in there.

Plus, Dishwasher: Dead Samurai started life as an indie game so that kinda counts.

I thought it was pretty good considering the price. It's pretty versatile, much more so than LBP. It may not have LBP's polish and scale, but that's to be expected given that LPB was a full release.

This would be great, if I could use the Indie Marketplace. But for some reason we don't have that in Norway. Which sucks, because there are a couple of games I really want on there.

I'd always had this idea that every developer on the indie marketplace had to make at least twelve controller rumble massage games before they were allowed to do anything original.

Breath of Death VII: The Beginning is the best dollar I ever spent on Xbox.
I had a blast with that game, glad to see they're making another RPG, I hope it has the fun battle system (or an even better one) like their first.

Groov is my favorite XBLI game, for only a buck. It's very short, but it's definitely worth more than a chocolate bar. I also bought Miners dig deep, which is a very appeasing experience, and Beat Hazard for an innovative take on what to do while listening to an album for the first time. I also bought Breath of Death VII, and it's quite worth the dollar.
