This (in my opinion) is going to be major blow to games developing as a respected medium.

http://www.allaboutthegames.co.uk/feature_story.php?headline=Xbox-Murder--Man-Kills-Acquaintance-While-Playing-Videogame-News&article_id=9061

Apparently, there was a fight between two guys playing Xbox (they say it was Call Of Duty: Black Ops) and when it got too far out of hand, one of them pulls out a gun and shoots him the head.

This is clearly not because of the game. yes, the game may have got the shooter in the mood for killing, but if the fight was at a level where murder IS a witty comeback....then if it wasn't a gun, it would have been the controller.

Just my thoughts, share yours.
Cheers

God bless us, everyone one of us

A nice thread to start of the Christmas cheer, but in all seriousness, this is crap. You can't blame video games for the actions of psychos like this, there clearly in need of help, don't get any, and eventually they just reach their limit, and the crazy overflows...

It's most likely because this guy was high on meth and was really just dumb. I mean who does that kind of thing? Crazy people or people on drugs.

Aaaaaand it was because of CoD:BO. How unexpected.

I know. How much do they hate games that the line "Sources reckon the game being played at the time of the murder was possibly "Call of Duty": a game which tasks players with violently shooting each other in a tense war-like situation." is thrown in the middle.

This ignorant, scare-mongering stuff is just POINTLESS.

Wait, this happened last year, why are we bringing it up now?

Yes, it is tragic that a man lost his life, but we all now that no game will ever make a person think that murder is an acceptable action-If that was the way it worked, the guy would not have fled the scene of the crime.

I had and argument once so I killed everyone in my village with a gunship! Oh wait no I didn't because I wasn't mental before playing violent video games and I'm still not after!!! Strange!! Perhaps they should bring in a test to gauge whether or not you're mentally balanced enough to be allowed to play games! That or just keep blaming the games every time someone who owns a console kills someone! Because its clearly linked...... /sarcasm

Was he playing with a gun in his pocket?

This was just what this medium didn't need.

The man was obviously mentally unstable. I wonder when America is going to realize that it's their stupid right to keep arms that is the cause of most events like this.

This is ridiculous

You ever notice how when one person dies from someone else while playing videogames, it's a travesty, games should be banned etc. But thousands of people die all the time due to alchohol-related murders, yet no one seems to care?

People always seem to notice insignificant details and miss the giant parts

Reminds me of a quote I once heard:
"one hundred people get swine flu in mexico somewhere, millions of people wear masks, yet thousands of people every year get aids, and no one wears a condom.

Perhaps they should apply that very same test to fuckin' GUN OWNERSHIP!

Canada has 3 times the number of firearms than the U.S....and they are not in the top ten on the above list.
South Africa and Colombia have their own issues as to why their numbers are so high.
And Thailand is overpopulated anyway.
Guns don't kill people. The idiots who use them do.

Yep, this is just pouring more fuel on the 'Video games create violent people argument'

I just wish someone would come out and make the very obvious point that nearly everyone in our generation has played games at some point in their life. It's all too easy for the older generations to point the blame at that if they screw up
It's pretty bullshit.
First of all my experience is the majority of people playing counter-strike and CoD 4/Mw2/Bo are frigging psychos.
Go into a game, they swear like crazy, they threayen people's lives, they are inherently insane.
These types of people can not differentiate between reality and real life and should NOT be playing video games to begin with.
Gaming's just been set back another 8 years... *sigh*
Goddamned psychopaths...

Well people have killed each other over games of pool where money was put on it amoung other things so no anyone with half a brain will not see that this reflects on the medium badly.
