Tell me, what exactly are you looking forward to with the next gen consoles? Genuinely, I am not trolling I have been gaming all my life and can see nothing even remotely exciting or new in the next gen.

You will be paying $70/£70 for 4K remasters of exactly the same games, with the same graphics only 4k with higher FPS?

I can see it now 'uncharted 1-4 UHD addition' 'Call of duty Ghosts UHD edition' God of War UHD edtion'

Developers consistently cry out for more powerful hardware, they blame low powered hardware for the lack of innovation, which we have seen in the past is painfully untrue.

Look at the ps4 and xbox one. Howe many genuinely , original AAA games appears in that generation. None, only innovative indy games that could arguable run on PS2 hardware.

Although I do not think the console industry will crash, it probably needs it is in a very unhealthy state at the moment and will likely get worse.

GTA - UHD edition. Enough said, buy the same game released three generations ago.

Higher frame rate. Errm, that's it. Spent some time with a person who was quite sensitive to low frame rate due to motion sickness and I think it rubbed off on me after a while. Not fond of that particular accidental empathising.

Am not the best person to answer that question. Looking forward or feeling excitement for anything just hasn't been possible for some while. Nothing personal against good things. Just broken brain.

Bloodborne, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Until Dawn, Sekiro, Spider-Man, Nioh, Nier: Automata, ain’t nothing to scoff at; Cyberpunk: 2077 and Elden Ring are still planned for current gen releases too. But yeah it’s pretty much a given that the longer that established IP’s are around the more they’ll be relied on for future generations.

I’m more interested in how the new DS5 controller will be used. As for games, goes without saying it's waaaay too early to predict how good or bad things will be.

I'm looking forward to more powerful hardware and hoping for a lot more "intangible" benefits like virtually immediate loading times and better AI. The kind of benefits that you don't see just looking at pretty screenshots.

It'll be quite an accomplishment for a gen to be duller than current-gen.

All the interesting games are coming from indie/AA devs and almost nothing coming from AAA anymore. Just look at Gamedec and Cyberpunk 2077, one of them is far more ambitious with regards to role-playing elements and it isn't the uber hyped AAA game. Hell, a much much better stealth game, Desperados 3, came out the same week as TLOU2. Desperados 3 has an Overwhelmingly Positive Steam user rating vs TLOU2 Metacritic user rating.

All the games I'm currently most looking forward to will almost certainly be able to play just fine without even a video card: Baldur's Gate 3, Gamedec, and Weird West.

You must have forgotten your medication because PS4 had an incredible line-up. Granted it took a while before it picked up steam and I see it being no different for PS5. I would have bought one as soon as DeS Remake comes out but now I'll probably buy one immediately just for the shorter loading times of PS4 games.

I'm kinda disappointed PS5 isn't really hyped though. They low-key presented it with some details and CGI trailers and that was kinda it. Though I guess the covid situation also pissed on this parade.

Halo Infinite looks fun. Then again I'm a pc gamer so I only really care about any of these games if they come to pc.

What have you been smoking? The PS4, and Switch for that matter, have plenty of great first and third party games. It's Microsoft with their Xbox one that's been lacking this generation. Yeah, sure, you don't like anything that's on offer, that's your problem. I do admit that the double-a and indie market have been killing it, but I still wish to see more AA mid-budget games for next generation.

We've already hit the graphic threshold so, there is not much that can be done at this point. Most of the AAA space does not interest me much anymore for a long while call but I have no worries, cuz there are plenty of other options. I am excited for PS5, but I wish both Microsoft and Sony would stop beating around the bush and just released the prices already. we already know what is waiting for the other to slip up, but I really don't care. Just be honest with your price. Besides even with the great lineup of PS5 games, I still won't be getting the console to about 1.5 to 2 years later.

Yeah, I got nothing. Truth be told, even this past generation seemed to have few, if any, real big innovations or advancements. I was really just a bunch of upscaled PS3 and 360 games when you got down to it. Furthermore it took THREE YEARS for the generation to reach its stride. The most interesting things that happened were the rise of Japanese gaming with stuff like Yakuza, Persona, Nioh, and DMC (basically getting back to normal after way too long with jingoistic, retrograde machismo) and the Switch being a dedicated hybrid console.

At best, it's going to take awhile for things to get rolling, probably longer than usual. We're going to have the conversation about diminishing returns again, even if developers have to be dragged kicking and screaming into it when they realize all the fancy processing in the world can't replace design.

Technologically the biggest advancements we are going to see this generation are more stable framerates with faster load times. And if that's the only innovation we see this generation, then I'm all for it. A smoother, faster play experience is nothing to scoff at.

Every generation of console has had amazing games and I doubt we'll see that change any time soon. While we will surely see "upgraded" last gen games, that's not really anything new, we've seen upgrades of games through the past generation. Last of Us 1 got a remaster for PS4. And with Ps5 I'm sure we'll see plenty of upgrades. Actually many companies having already confirmed that you get a free upgrade if you buy the game now.

And some scummy companies wanted you to buy a new version.....*cough* Control *cough*.

*Looks at Gamedec* Yeah, shame its isometric and ergo annoying as balls to look at.

Yup, this.

I don't see why people are scoffing at the idea that playing at a higher frame rate with better draw distances and less texture pop-in is somehow not worth it.

Oh, yeah, console gamers have said for years that the human eye can't even detect framerates higher than 30, and some of them actually believe it.

Agreed we need less lazy devs who make remasters and remakes and actually come up with original games. I will even settle for innovative sequels. I nearly wanted to throw something at the screen when they announced GTA5 for PS5. Shark Cards are cancer, and people who buy them are cancer.
