so this got revealed at the Game Awards (i know i already made a Game Awards thread but feel this is big enough news to warrant it's own seperate thread)

thoughts on the System?

i've got nothing against the system. system itself looks cool. now we just need the cool games to go with it.
it has a terrible name though.

Xbox One
Xbox One S
Xbox One X
Xbox Series X

"oh but don't worry little Timmy. the Xbox Series X is OBVIOUSLY a different machine than the Xbox One X"

did they learn nothing from Nintendo's failure trying to convince the general public that the Wii U was different from the Wii?

Or even from the difficulty in differentiating between the Xbox One and the... uh.. Xbox one.

Looks like the vent at the top already has a head start on overheating and sagging in the middle, so there's that I guess.

It's from Microsoft, so it already starts with negative "streetcred" for as far as I'm concerned.

I wonder when their product designers went; fuck it , we can't be arsed anymore so here's a bland, black box.

Eh 360 controller is feeling its age, especially with that godforsaken D-Pad.

After playing with a Switch Pro Controller and an Xbox One Controller, I wish I can get them to run on my PC.

I have no faith in Xbox considering they only showed off a box and told us nothing about it.

PLaystation 5 revealed itself with an actual launch game. A game! You know, like that thing that Xbox doesn't do anymore but it pretty fucking important when you release a game's console.

I would like Microsoft to have a chance this next generation, because competition is better for everyone in the long run. Yet they better have some shit to show at E3 next year or they are gonna get stomped again.

I am holding off on a PS4 in the hope that PS4 Blu Ray Discs will be backwards compatible with the PS5.

the Xbox One and the Switch controller are fucking and overall more comfortable than the 360 controller yes.

but the 360 controller is the same basic shape layout. the Xbox One and Switch pro controllers are simply just evolutions of the 360 controller design with bettew grips.

it's like how the playstation controller literally just took the design of an SNES controller and then Sony just added handles to make it more comfortable.

I am not that big a fan of the PS4 controller to be honest. I mean an evolution from the PS1 design was needed but they missed the mark with the PS4.

"Should we give every console a distinct name, or give every console the same name with a clear marker of progression for each iteration?"
"No."

i just don't like how close the analogue sticks are to each other and the home button.

it doesn't happen as often now, but for the first couple of months occasionally when i was focusing hard on dodging weapons coming at me or when try to pull sharp turns and tricky shortcuts, my right thumb would sometimes slip and accidentally hit the home button while i was playing crash team racing nitro fueled because the home button being right next to the stick makes accidentally slipping and hitting the home button real easy to do by mistake.

ummm pretty sure Hellblade II exist's...

(and no, microsoft bought the indie developer who made the first hellblade. it's unlikely we'll see it on PS5 or Switch because of that)

To go for that low-hanging fruit, how are we going to abbreviate it? XBSX? XSX? Xbox Sex?

Also, outside of being bland and boring, much like the system's actual appearance, the name Series implies they'll be more than one version. Which is only to be expected I guess. In keeping with Microsoft's current offerings, I'm guessing it'll be a basic system and an a more powerful premium one, perhaps also complemented by a streaming only system. Possible names:

Xbox Series X Core
Xbox Series X Elite
Xbox Series X Cloud

The Rogue Wolf

Stealthy Carnivore
Legacy

17,067
9,787

Stalking the Digital Tundra

There is apparently someone in Microsoft's marketing team who can't sleep at night without thinking of children being disappointed at Christmas because Grandma bought the wrong kind of XBox.

Do you know why PS5 has me pumped? I'm into VR. It's been a great experience for me.

Do you know why Series X has me simply curious? I don't know anything about it other than specs and a few video trailers, a medium I haven't trusted since Killzone 2.

But it will be on PC, which ruins the need for a new Xbox. Not everyone plays on PC of course, but it does hurt the bottom line when trying to sell a specific console. We've already seen proof of that in this last generation of Microsoft putting all their games on PC.

You think Microsoft gives a shit? they can easily make it a windows exclusive so they still get paid whether you buy it on on Xbox or on PC.

as long their competitors Sony and Nintendo or Steam for that matter, don't take away from their profits why the fuck would microsoft care if you play it on Xbox or on PC Windows store?

Maybe they don't. But it doesn't make the console worth anything does it? It doesn't help all those boxes sitting on store shelves with no one there to buy them.

It does take away from their profits. It might not effect their bottom line, but it does affect their profits. Most consoles are sold at a lost anyway and only the routine sales of games and services purchased for the console does it end up making money for the company in the end.

Frankly if their attitude is "who fucking cares?" then why would anyone wanna support a console company that has that philosophy?
