Not really sure if this should go in the advice or games section since it kind of fits both.

I'm looking to get the Xenosaga series BUT, I need to get a PS2 that will run the games. The PS2 I have is PAL so I need to buy a NTSC PS2 because the series was never released in PAL format.

Another problem I have is that some people have made topics online saying their PS2 can't run Xenosaga and so on. This is where you come in. If you own the games and they work on your Playstation 2 could you tell me the model of your PS2 (e.g. SCPH 90001) and which games in the series you have working on it? I'd like to know what model the PS2 is so I can buy that model with a bit more assurance that the games will work.

DO NOT Post saying. These games suck, emulate the games or other things along those lines. I don't care if you don't like the game and my computer isn't powerful enough to emulate the games so that's not an option. Don't tell me to buy a new computer that can, because I wouldn't be able to afford it at the moment anyway.

Thanks for all your help in advance.

EDIT: I think I should make it clear that I know that I need NTSC and it's easy for me to tell which region the PS2 is. All I want to know is what model you have that can play the games fine. What Tautology posted is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Thanks for trying to help. :)

Google is your friend, but I'll try to help.

The difference between the Pal and NSTC models is the region, usually differing from country to country. If I recall correctly, it has something to do with the region and DVD pricing.

The easiest way to identify this is by checking the model number. This will most likely tell your what type of ISO format the system is using.

Hope this helps. But of course, you'll have to do research for models and their formats.

My model number is a 39001 and all three work fine. It seems the issue lies with older PS2s and it's hit or miss.

Check your TV as well and see if it's a PAL TV or NTSC. If it's PAL, you will need to get an NTSC one for it to work. (The PAL/NTSC issue is actually a Video output format and they are incompatible with each other)

SCPH 900001, and all three games work flawlessly. Even the UNDUB version of Xenosaga 3 works like a charm.

Also, AWESOME GAMES. Hell, I'd love an HD remastering...

If you have a slim you should be fine.

I've heard there's been issues with Fat PS2's and some games (like Rouge Galaxy)

Sorry to bother you further. I was reading about someone having a problem playing Xenosaga 1 on his Slim PS2.

He said 'the ps2 slims, like me and my roomates that DONT have the metal bar near the left hinge preventing import devices does NOT play the first Xenosaga.

however, my other roomate with a ps2 slim WITH the bar preventing import devices works just fine.'

Do you have any idea what this 'metal bar' is? Do you know if your model has this?

Again, sorry for the trouble and thanks for taking your time to help me.

I've just checked my PS2 and I have absoultely no idea what your friend means with that metal hinge. I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary, and the thing preventing the PS2 from playing imports is software-wise, I think.

I DO know about the first Xenosaga having some issues but that was because it was one of the very first games to be on a Dual-Layer DVD, so it didn't work quite well. As far as I can tell, that's the only issue the first Xenosaga has.

I would prefer to have the OTHER three games that were supposed to be in the series over an HD remaster, although that is a cool idea.

I own all three games and had no problems with any of them...well, aside from the mind-numbing story in the second game. All I know about my PS2 is that it's an older model--before they went all skinny--and I bought it in the U.S. If you need more information, I'll try and figure out what info you need from my PS2.
