Yahtzee comparing cluttered game design to Asperger's Syndrome

Has anyone else noticed that sometimes Yahtzee compares "clusterfuck" games to Asperger's Syndrome? Sometimes I find it offensive even though much of his jokes are funny. Started to really notice that comparison pop up round about the time of the The World Ends With You review he did, but I don't remember the names of the other reviews he used the comparison in.

Now I know by posting this I risk the ire of the Yahtzee fanboys, but I don't think anyone else has bothered to bring it up, and I would be interested in knowing exactly WHY Yahtzee occasionally continues to use such a controversial comparison which I as a person with the condition of Asperger's sometimes find a bit off putting when watching an otherwise hilarious review. Yes, my brain occasionally is clustered up and confused when overloaded with requests to do a number of household tasks, but all the same on the autistic spectrum I'm otherwise "high-functioning".

And please, for the love of God, Buddha, Cthulhu, Allah, and Vishnu, don't turn this into a thread filled with "ASSBURGERS" comments or associated .jpgs, as this would demean an honest question. I normally laugh very hard at Yahtzee's reviews and it is only this one troubling aspect of his material which I find offensive.

You really don't need to be worried about endless flaming and unreasonable attacks from repliers, that's not how things are done around here.

I've never personally noticed the comparison but you have to remember Yahztee has very dry humour (which no doubt he pulls off very well) and anything he says could be seen as offensive to someone and picking at one thing is a bit unjust.

You missed one of the points about ZP. Being that it's offensive. And if you enjoy that, you can't complain when the joke happens to be on you.

Thats just the way his humor is, and for him to be funny someone is gonna be offended no matter what.. He has to step on someones toes to get noticed, if he was nice about everything nobody would watch his videos..

So in the end it is nothing personal, just a way for him to make a living..

I don't believe he would have meant any offense to people who actually have Asperger syndrome.

You have to understand that it's being exploited like bi-polar and ADD are and thus have become a bit of a punchline that people in the comedy business use.

That's just the ZP style, he's not serious about it. Maybe his agression is compensating for something...nah I think it's mostly just random
Never actually noticed it.

Well my brother is also a "high fuctioning" autistic and he dosen't find it offensive. Really I think its because Yatzee is just making a joke and not seriously saying these things.

Like for exaple when he said "I think hitler was right" he was obvously kidding. But if he had seriously devoted a review to saying how jews are the scum of the earth then it'd be another story.

He does seem the sort of person who would make a joke to amuse himself, with little regard to who it may offend.
In fact some of his comments are made just to offend others. But you have to admit, his metaphors can be a pretty good way of describing his point.

So yeah one thing came up that offends you, i think hes likely said things to offend me in his time. You just got to dismiss it and remember its nothing personal really. That of find the humour in it and laugh along.

Good point, actually having Asperger's Syndrome makes the joke more accessible, come to think of it the non-auto play of the second character in The World Ends With You does remind me of when I'm busy in the kitchen and my family is overloading me with tasks.

Precisely, i know plenty of people who would just laugh along with it, but barely understand the truth behind the joke.
I studied asperger's syndrome and autism as part of my psychology course, so a lot of it i understand, which makes it amuse me all the more. But like you said, it means you can relate to it first hand.

P.S. Welcome to The Escapist.

I have a severe case of OCD, but when Yahtzee made a OCD joke ("about the same precision of a man in a shoelace factory with OCD") I frowned and laughed but I didn't care for it much. When you laugh you make your world easier trust me.

All of you awkward eternal virgins don't have Asperger's syndrome. It's a very rare condition that contrary to popular belief doesn't manifest itself with "1337 h4x012 5k1ll5".
Scan your medical history, bills, prescriptions etc. and put it here or you don't have Asperger's just like I don't have Tourette's, even though I curse all the time.
Calm down man. He certainly has the symptoms, and it's my impression that he was diagnosed. I didn't see him claiming to have "1337 h4x012 5k1ll5" anywhere.

Yahtzee also often uses the term 'retard'. I disapprove of this language however, I believe that he should be able to say it.

I don't believe that people have the right to not be offended. I think that offensive material or language should be challenged on the same principles that you are able to insult or criticise them.

I never said I had L337 haxor skills, my haxor skills are mediocre at best. I can't even haxor into a packet of noodles when I feel fatigued.

It's a comedy review, the style of which is intended to offend as much as entertain and is generalistic in its broadcast. I imagine if you discussed the subject of Aspergers with Yahtzee you'd probably find he holds specific views which aren't designed for comedic use.

For me no subject lays outside the boundaries of comedy, whether you find the jokes funny or not is subjective and each to his own. If someone holds views you consider to be distasteful over and above a comedic level that's another thing.

Sadly, the quote below shows otherwise.

edit: If you had authism (and AS is a form of it) you wouldn't even watch Yahtzee's reviews because you wouldn't grasp the normal humor at all.
Normally I would disemvowel you but your ignorance needs to be shown in its true light.

Trying to insult people by calling them virgins is one of the most pathetic insults I've ever heard. I reported you for it because it's just pathetic.

Why do you claim to know anything of the NewGeekPhilosopher's medical condition? Are you a doctor? Are you an educational psychologist who knows lots about Asperger's syndrome?

Someone with autism would be able to watch Yahtzee's reviews, I see no reason why they necessarily would want to.

NewGeekPhilosopher didn't claim to suffer from autism but in fact Asperger's syndrome, a very mild type of autism so you can't judge his actions against a perception of full blown autism.
