You are a LARPer: What do you equip yourself with?

Live Action Role Playing

Today my college had a medieval fair and, well, these were moreso reenactors than larpers but it got me and my friends talking about LARP. It's actually really fun to fight with foam swords and shields. It's quite difficult. Movies make it seem so easy but damn, it's really hard.

If you joined a group doing medieval battling what would you equip yourself with? What would you prefer to be equipped with in real life?

I would go with a large triangular shield and long sword. It's pretty effective.

In reality though I would definitely go with a long bow. I much prefer taking out a guy a hundred yards away than be stuck in a battle line and have the guy next to the guy I'm trying to kill stabbing me in the face...

Edit: I recognize that this would do better in offtopic, I apologize.

Probably a flail. I have always thought that flails were so cool. Not too terribly practical, but really cool.

A Scottish claymore and Samurai Katana combo.
... What? if you can't slash the person you should pound them into oblivion with the weight of the claymore, actually it makes perfect sense.

I bring my Plasma Assault Rifle.

You have no evidence that space-faring aliens with Plasma Assault Rifles were not present in the Middle Ages.
You dont' have the evidence that they were present. Don't use that kind of logic here. If religious debates' taught me anything, that proving a negative is retarded.

Well, it hasn't been disproven, so I see no reason not to bring my Plasma Assault Rifle.
Then I'll bring my fucking dragon from the 100guys vs. you on whatever mount, thread.

Medieval Reenacting: Probably a <a=http://www.superiorsteel.co.nz/uploads/66530/images/91728/GDFB_-_XB0099_--_PoleAxe.jpg>Pollaxe or a <a=http://callitaweasel.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/zweihander_b.jpg>Zweihander. I've already got a bit of experience with polearms, if not specifically those two, but those two were some of the most useful medieval weapons, plus they look totally badass.

LARPing: A suicide pill. I may be a bit of a geek, but I never wanna sink THAT low.

I'd have to go with the Combo that created one of the mightiest empires on Earth. A large Copper shield with a short stabbing sword. Moving through enemy lines in a formation like this: < stabbing and stabbing and stabbing and stabbing and stabbing and stabbing.

Ah... good work Romans.
