I really should check in on the stock I bought like 5 years ago....

Wait, I have no idea how to do that, in fact, do I even have anything that says I own the stock I bought? Fuck.

damn, GameStop in the states must be awesome, in Denmark they are a joke, they have almost no games with a single title filling up a entire display, charge 20% more than its competition, have almost no stores and have terrible customer support, they are actually getting their ass handed to them by blockbuster, who have gone bankrupt in the states, but over here they are at every corner.

so yeah, American retailers do completely opposite in Denmark.
Wait, blockbuster went under in the US? They're doing amazing in Canada!

And as someone said here. EB Games is pretty amazing in Canada. Also I've seen two or three Gamestop locations. Odd.
Yup, i was pretty shocked too, i think its our healthcare, like so many others blockbuster needs it to live :p
oh and random source: http://arstechnica.com/media/news/2010/09/blockbuster-officially-going-bankrupt-for-really-real-this-time.ars

Yeah I only buy off of Amazon or literally anyone else. Gamestop is just not a cool business at all.

Nice. So we had the best year in recent history, yet they still cut our hours below the minimum? Bah!

Remember the company does not care about you.

Menial labourers are necessary?

... Maybe en masse but on their own? Of course the same thing can be said of 90% of people out there in the world ... you're necessary ... because we need you to work for us. That being said everybody is a servant/dependant to/on someone else.

Menial Labourer -> Supervisor -> Efficiency Officer/District Manager of HR -> Corporate Accountants, Sales Directors, Body Corporate advisors, planners and Divisional executives (aka Movers and Shakers) -> COOs -> CEOs -> BoD + Corporate President(s) - > Shareholders -> Children of Shareholders -> Menial Labourers.

It's like that scene when Simba is taught the circle of life o.o

If they want to quit I'm pretty sure it's easy enough to find another shelf jockey to fill their position. Failing that you just make your remaining staff do what little work they did for extra hours of paid work.

wonder how that compares to how Steam performed during the same period.

pretty confident the number of units that Steam moved must dwarf Gamestop's but given that everything is so much cheaper I'm curious how dollar values compare.

Ironically GAME didn't fair too well over here in England. Although i hate GAME and miss Gamestation, the only store in London is in Wembley and, well, it's way too much of a journey to even justify going. I usually just buy stuff off Amazon unless im in the vicinity of a shop. Cheaper prices + free delivery= One happy chappy.

They just laid off all their new hires at my local GameStop. I should really start buying from independent game stores.

Yet they STILL charge more for used games than a local used game store chain we have.
This is true for my area as well, but to be fair, I have found that Gamestop offers significantly better trade-in values as compared to the local store.

It's hard to remember that Funcoland became Gamestop. That was the "cool" place that had games, systems and accessories from the NES era.

Oh, great. Now we are going to hear even more whining about GameStop, as if it was the only games retailer in the world... -_-

Here's a tip. Don't like buying at GameStop? Then don't buy at GameStop! I know, what a shocking concept...

I know I spent $400 at Gamestop the day after Christmas. I also had to wait in line for 45 minutes to get to the register to buy the stuff.

I have a friend who worked 70 hours in two weeks over Xmas break. This is a high school student.

My personal comment on this article: PC games are in the "Other" category? Accessories I can understand, but an entire console worth of games? Consoles aren't that dominant, sorry!

Have to agree, the local EB Games manager is pretty good about cutting deals, even on the new merchandise.

THIS! This right here, all over it with a side of bullshit and fries.

Sure, I admit I worked 40 hrs. a week during the holidays. But now, I'd hear the higher ups complaining about having a bad year and how hours will be reduced because of it.

Now they're just being greedy.
