There is no Rule 34 on the landmass of Iceland. I call shenanigans.
Well, none I know of that involve the landmass exactly, but there is always Axis powers Hetalia...

Tangentially related - The best fanfiction ever is this one:
Because it's just so utterly terrible and the way the guy is narrating it coupled with his sarcastic typed notes while reading is so great.

OT: I don't read fanfictions. Or at least, it's not one of those things I go and search out by my own volition. So I've literally never run across a Rule 34 Fanfic. But I'm pretty open-minded about most porn. Unless it involves torture-porn, weird unnatural body modification, or scat, I'm probably going to be okay with it.

EDIT: Okay, I guess that the fanfic I linked is technically a bit Rule 34, but still. Fanfics aren't things I go searching out, so I don't really have much of an opinion on them.
Thanks for making my day. That Dramatic reading is abselutely brilliant.

Depends on the type of Rule 34. Rule 34 just states 'there is porn of it, no exceptions,' which can cover a wide range of topics.

Tastefully written erotica with a decent plot between two characters who showed signs of sexual attraction but never actually consumnated it in the series proper (Ron and Hermione, Sokka and Suki, Harpo and Groucho) can be fun to read. Sexuality is a part of the human condition, and that many stories seem to go out of their way to deny it is actually more jarring than stories which feature it. In some cases it sems like the author wanted to show more (Ginny and Harry's kiss in Book 7 was going somewhere) but was held back by the constraints of their chosen genre, in which case Rule 34 fan fiction is a nice way to give established characters a maturity they were never allowed to achieve in the main story.

Then of course, we have toasters buggering rocks, which also counts as Rule 34, but which just annoys me so I don't read it.
Mhmm. This is soo true. I never really realised before, but a lot of the shows I like the most are ones that naturally involve a lot of sex scenes. Eg. Homeland, Game of Thrones, True Blood. In the sense that they have sex but don't force it or try to make it like porn but at the same time don't try to hide it as if it's some sort of taboo. So strange how people treat sex like that.

Now, that all depends on the Rule 34 that's being used, the characters involved and how well it's written...

Well written? No problems. Rule 34 used for comedic effect or a way to give depth to characters? No worries there. The Rule 34 used varying between light, heavy, BDSM and group? Nope, nothing bad happening here.

But then if the story is poorly written, characters used are underaged/furries/monsters and the Rule 34 is bordering on Gorn/Torture Porn, then my general reaction can be summed up in a single image...

I have my limits, and sadly many stories go beyond them. Most of those are terrible so it's not really a bad thing, but when I accidentally stumble across something that does invoke the above image... yeah.

Related to that - Rule 34 My Little Pony. No. NO. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Ain't gonna touch that even if it follows the criteria for me to not give a shit about it.

I read a fanfic once where Snape drills a hole in Malfoy's skull and literally skullfucks him to death. And it was supposed to be erotic.

I'm all for freedom of expression, but I refuse to believe anyone who would write something like that in earnest and share it with other people is anything but a complete fucking lunatic.
I'm with this guy. I'll defend the medium, but not the users (case by case of course). Its a haven ripe for people short of a few brain cells.......and throw in the sexual nature of it.....

Its not very pretty. Most fanfics are about 2 characters the writer wants to see have sex, and less about the relationship or context or anything. Its not deep, its porn. And real porn is much better to be honest....because it isn't done by angsty 15 year olds or the criminially insane (well the legal stuff that is). And its nigh impossible to talk about sexual acts without laughing hysterically, and the way some people write....oh its just too much for me.

You're welcome, good citizen!

And I agree, it's probably the best thing that's come from that amazing badfic/troll-fic (since no one really knows 100% whether the author was serious or just doing it "for the lulz").

I don't get why furries have to add such weird fetishs like vore, urine, poo, diapers, inflation(I know EternalNothingness is into that shit),weight gain etc..

why can't yall just pick something that seems normal???
I guess it's because furry fetishists probably have the biggest and most vocal population of any fetishists on the internet, and perhaps when so many people that you interact with have the same, already rather strange fetish, the tendency is to feel less strange about pushing things further.

As for me, I can't say I've actively seeked any of it, more out of not really knowing what I'd want to look for than anything else. For all my strangeness, my sexual tastes are rather vanilla. I have stumbled upon the odd thing, but my reaction is rather small beyond initial shock. People are into what they are into.

Don't forget 'transformation'. An interactive story which had that stuff was the reason why I even posted this thread.
Interactive? How the hell did that work? What, like one of those "choose your adventure" books?

And coming to think of it, I was a little freaked out when I found out there was slash fics about people from thatguywiththeglasses. Can't help but feel things could go stalkerish from there.

Depends. Is it a cool, well-written story based on the interpretation of probable subtext contained into the original game/tv-show and it focus more in the story telling and less in the sex thing? Yeah, it's cool, I read and like (for example, I like an artist called Chloe and another called Ellias who created stories about a Kim Possible and Shego slash - Kigo - that are completely serious). But that shit is incredibly rare. Most of the time, I just sigh, die a little inside, and move on. You don't know true dread until you see a shemale version of Jasmine and Ariel (I really need to check the links on the emails people send me)

I haven't read fanfiction since I was about 15, so I guess I have to say I'm indifferent to it. As for rule 34-type fic in particular, well... if it makes someone happy, go right on ahead.

There's tasteful 34 and then there's the kind of stuff that makes you wonder how sexually repressed the author is. This goes for fics as well as for pictures, obviously.

When characters are portrayed realistically and the initial 'ship isn't straining the boundaries of the canon, it's usually not that bad. When I start seeing OCs or weird body pile-ups and when fics turn into the transcription of someone's cyber-sex routine, I tend to get a little weirded out.

The problem is, good erotica is written or drawn by people who have some experience in the matter. I've found that getting in a relationship changes a lot of things about your perception of societal norms and about what turns you on. I'll be infinitely more turned on by two characters with obvious chemistry simply making out than by one canon character being involved in a massive gang-bang with five OCs. At some point, it leaves the "erotica" definition and more or less turns into shameless pandering.

As for some of the other paraphilias that figure into the 'net's supply of smut, I'd wager the Web is simply allowing for our more primal urges to be expressed. Inflation or weight gain might seem pretty fucking weird if you're simply basing yourself off of modern and standard Western social cues, but remember that India considers morbid obesity to be a sign of wealth and prosperity. A lot of things which we're more or less cued into being grossed out by are things that used to be canons of beauty, a few centuries to a few thousand years ago.

Consider that in the seventeenth century, for instance, women we'd today consider shapely were considered emaciated. Plumper figures were highly sought after. On a more modern level, just look at Botero's art if you're wanting to see a depiction of rounder folks that's actually flattering and playful.

Now when you say "erotic fanfiction", are you referring to Hentai and such?

Some doujin's can be a more sensual fantasy. I don't like rape manga's though. I usually close immediately. I don't want to see the characters I love treated in such a violent, tasteless way.

I assume you mean the "rape" and "forced" things. So the simple answer is: Get that shit away from me.
