I ignore them. I don't read reviews and I don't care about them, good or not. I don't see why some people get so bitchy about rule 34. So what? It doesn't hurt you. Don't like it, don't look and let the person who enjoys it, enjoy it.

If someone puts up some form of art, whether picture or writing, I base any criticism on the quality of the work, not on someone wanting Kagome to get together with Sesshoumaru or something like that.

for some reason the characters turn into ass holes....(not literally but..you know what I mean)
You haven't been reading the right ones then.

OT: I'm not big on most fanfiction, but I actively embrace terrible rule 34. Usually because the pure horribleness just makes it way too damn amusing.
The best ones are the ones that try to be completely serious, but display a clear lack of understanding the basic concepts of sex.

... WHELP I read 'em and like 'em.

Except not really. But I don't mind the idea of them. Often I like seeing a romance explored that wasn't explored in the IP itself. And sex is an exciting, gratifying thing to read in a light-reading capacity.
Of course they are always shit and abandon all semblance of character and context which thus makes it impossible to enjoy in any sense of the word. Even the raunchy sense.

So generally I might just read ones for amusement purposes. And they are tremendously amusing at times. There was one where Shepard and Legion had sex. Lol.

Tangentially related - The best fanfiction ever is this one:
Because it's just so utterly terrible and the way the guy is narrating it coupled with his sarcastic typed notes while reading is so great.

OT: I don't read fanfictions. Or at least, it's not one of those things I go and search out by my own volition. So I've literally never run across a Rule 34 Fanfic. But I'm pretty open-minded about most porn. Unless it involves torture-porn, weird unnatural body modification, or scat, I'm probably going to be okay with it.

EDIT: Okay, I guess that the fanfic I linked is technically a bit Rule 34, but still. Fanfics aren't things I go searching out, so I don't really have much of an opinion on them.

I read a fanfic once where Snape drills a hole in Malfoy's skull and literally skullfucks him to death. And it was supposed to be erotic.

I'm all for freedom of expression, but I refuse to believe anyone who would write something like that in earnest and share it with other people is anything but a complete fucking lunatic.

Unless they are shoe-horned into the actual canon and make no sense in context, then I don't mind these bits of erotic fan fiction at all. The same goes for 'dream fights' for me, as well.
If I felt that adding sexual fetishistic elements to a work were somehow worse than projecting out-of-place political or religious views on characters, then maybe my viewpoint would be different.

That's the kind of thing that should be left to fan fiction or parody. As soon as one goes pro, it is time to let go of match-ups or pairings that would derail storylines just because they would be amusing on some level.

When left to fan fiction or works of parody, sometimes, the more mismatched or outright genre inappropriate the pairing(when dealing with any combination of the so-called 3 Fs), the more hilarious the end result can potentially be.

If the fans aren't petitioning to have any of their extreme fantasies (erotic or otherwise)put into the text, it isn't worth getting upset about.

Then again, I say that as someone who hasn't read a work of amateur fiction in about a decade or so, partly due to having so many professionally written books to catch up on reading. Their synopses on TV Tropes sound like a lot of fun, though.

The thing was: It was about ~2h after the episodes were uploaded and I was quite surprised about the quality of the drawings. They were not those fast scribbling but actually well drawn and proportioned pictures.

But yeah, the filter is off for a reason.
I remember when the episode that introduced Daring Do came out. There was porn of her fellating a guy literally less than an hour afterwards.

I mean, it was drawn by the guy who runs the Pony Mouth Hugs tumblr (his names escapes me), so she looked more like a deformed Yoshi than a pony, but the fact that it existed was very lol-worthy.

OT:

I'm a brony, and one of the minority who enjoy rule 34 of ponies (the quadrupedal ones, none of that humanized bullshit), and one of the further minority who actually give a damn about it being good. To be honest, I'm something of a connoisseur when it comes to MLP porn.

As with everything in fanfiction, the quality of the story varies quite a lot. Sometimes you'll get stories that are abjectly terrible and sometimes you'll get stories that are actually really sweet romances in addition to being well-written porn. I don't generally read bad stories - I'm way too much of a grammar nazi, for one thing, not to mention that I care about how people treat the characters - so most of my experiences with rule 34 are good ones.

It's logical, really, since I've never really seen porn as a desecration or defilement of characters or their universes, so it's that much easier for me to look for the good stories and art.

Most of the time, I ignore it. Most R34 both isn't sexually appealing to me and also is seen when I'm not in a horny mood, or is in a series that I don't watch or pay attention to.

That said, there's a MLP fan fiction series with some sex mixed in that I've been watching for the past couple of weeks and reading every update when it's released. Everyone has something that gets their rocks off, and one of them for me is Twilight Sparkle being in a relationship with a human.

...It's called Spaghetti Sparkle, if anyone's interested.

This is seriously the first fan fiction or R34-fiction I've ever read. Most of the time I just ignore written fiction and even most drawn R34 for the above reasons.

If you count comics like Palcomix, then hell yeah! (depending on the source material)
But if it's all that wordy junk with no pics, I'll pass.

I don't read much fanfiction of any kind. Maybe its because I've never bothered to go out of my way to find the "good ones" but the few I've stumbled across accidentally, erotic or not, don't really seem to be very engaging.

So what do you do when you come across one of them in a fanfiction site? The only reason I would be on a fanfiction site to begin with would be to find fapfics.

Well, that or badfics. Badfics are some of the best entertainment around.

Really though, I really don't read much "good" fanfics anymore (haha... as if there are any that are actually good to begin with). The vast majority of fanfics are poorly written, out-of-character trash anyway, so if you're gonna read them, might as well go out of your way to find the ones that's got either sex in them, or the ones that are hilariously bad (be it regular ol' badfics, trollfics or any of the "grimdark" trash - it's all pants-pissingly hilarious).

Actually, the ones that are both bad and have poor attempts at graphic sex scenes in them are often the funniest.

Fanfiction, especially Rule 34 fiction, falls from the same tree as TV Tropes. At its very best it is poorly written, cobbled together ideas and themes, completely devoid of any reason, soul, or context. At its worst, I Can't Believe it's not Child Pornography.

I have absolutely nothing against them. If you want to make fanfiction of fluttershy humping pinkie pie, fine. If you want Commander Shepard teabagging Wrex (or vice versa), I've no problem with that. If you want a Nick Clegg x David Cameron slashfic, go right ahead, and I'd suggest adding Eric Pickles too. I have a high tolerance for such things. I'd be surprised if someone could create anything seriously disturbing.

Even the most disturbing shit just makes me cry with laughter.

I forget the name of it (someone'll tell me in about 0.3 seconds no doubt) but the infamous Harry Potter one had me in tears in about 4 paragraphs.

Oh yeah, My Immortal. That's the one.

My Immortal eh?

Let's see what this is all about.

*30 minutes later*

Read it all in one sitting. Holy crap that was the funniest damn thing I've read in a long, long time. Now I'm going to go watch that narration video of it.

I've been wandering what Rule 34 is for awhile, but my friends tell me I'd have nightmares if I looked it up. So, can someone tell me what the hell Rule 34 is?
