I have many good close friends. But the one I refer to as my "best friend" is the one I consider my sister. Both of us only have brothers, so we were each other's sisters in grade school. We've been close friends for 13 years now, and we met in my 4th grade class. Since then, we've traveled to foreign countries together and gotten each other obsessed about horses. I'm still the only person who can quickly and accurately decipher her vague language consisting of hand motions and the word "thingy".

How'd you meet? What do you and yer mate like to do?
My best friend is my girlfriend. We met on an The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion role-playing forum which I mod and became fast friends. We like to complain about the Atlantic Ocean that separates us (England for me, Arizona for her).

My best friend keeps on saying weird things like "I am not Mr. Sullivan, why do you keep calling me that? You have known me for five years, you know my name, why do you insist on calling me Mr. Sullivan?" and then I say something like "Oh Mr. Sullivan, why are you acting so crazy?

I had a best friend. She was amazing. And we shared everything. And then she completely fucked me over. I haven't spoken to her in a few years.

I suppose the person I would consider to be my good friend now--lives in England. And we geek out about history and comic books and video games.

Met her back in primary school at age five, and have known her ever since.

She's one of those annoying people who can see right through me, meaning she never falls for my sarcastic 'I hate world, world go away, leave me alone' nonsense. She pretty much keeps me grounded all the time, which is a good thing.

Man, never would have expected her to be the friend I hung onto for fifteen years.

Never had one, especially not the stereotypical "friend since I was in grade school type" (moved away from my "hometown" [wasn't born there but was the first place I attended school] in 6th grade.)
Anyways, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PZ9PMuZIdk.
For all you friendless people out there, go to Home Depot or whatever, buy a piece of wood and paint a face on it.

There is only one person I would ever consider a best friend, and I don't even know them that well.
They are an internet friend and I have only known them for roughly a year.

This whole "best friend" business is pretty new to me.
There have been plenty of friends who I've known for little less than a decade, and I have not liked or cared for them any more than any of my other friends.
Seems kind of weird that the first person I'd ever like and care about more than anyone else would be someone I barely know.

My best friend is fucking awesome, a brilliant artist and, most importantly, she thinks I'm cool ^.^
I've known her since primary school, and our interests and sense of humour are really similar. One day she'll move onto bigger and better things, and abandon me, but that's ok because she's the only person I like, and I'd put anything aside for her.

I don't really think I have a best friend. I just have a few good friends that I like pretty much equally, but for different reasons.

There's one guy and one woman who really get my sense of humour, are always good for gaming and geeky banter as well as serious conversations, and they're good drinking buddies. They're the people I'm currently living with. Then there's the woman who doesn't get my sense of humour much at all (although, still, we have a laugh) but is one of the most dependable and lovely people I've ever met. Then there's the guy who's all of the above, apart from that drinking with him is sometimes a bad idea 'cos it always ends with me getting far more wasted than necessary. And of course there's my brother, which probably goes without saying... but I'm pretty sure we'd be great friends even if we weren't family.

That's my folks. They rock. The only unfortunate thing is that there's a load of past drama that means three of them are not on speaking terms with one another and can't even stand to be in the same room.

[small]Oh, and I met them all at university. Except my brother, of course, who arrived in my house at some point when I was a kid.[/small]

I don't have a best friend anymore, just a lot of different friends and hundreds of aquaintances.
It's kinda weird though, because the friends all have their little groups, and I'm just wandering around joining in every now and then...

I have two best friends, we all pretty much share the same personalities so we get along great guns :) Known them both since high school. There was a third, but she fucked things up after 7 years of solid friendship. Now I just wanna slam her for still having a high school mentality. 7 years after graduating, one would think she'd grow up a little.

I don't have a 'best friend'. I do have a little brother with whom I do and share everything. Maybe it's not quite the same thing, but I can think of no better friend.

I don't have a best friend. I had one that cheated with my first love when I was going oversea's. I for some reason don't trust my friends enough to call them BEST anymore...they are simply friends. People change, people do things to help themselves without regard for friendship. Give it 5 to 10 years and 85% of the time you wont be hanging with the same exact people you once did. Thats atleast how I see it.

Aww man. This is a surreal coincidence that this thread exists. I literally just ended a friendship with my best friend of eight and a half years the other day.

I met him in second period beginner's band in 6th grade and our first actual conversation was about Super Smash Bros Melee which had just come out and I was only the person in what would become a very close knit group of friends to own a Gamecube and Melee. So I invited him over to play it (with other friends as well) and it just kinda carried on from there. For some reason the two of us just mixed incredibly well. We're still the only two who know each other and understand one another better than anyone else and even though I ended up moving in 8th grade we stayed best friends up until very recently when I severed all ties with him. The reason being that he's basically just completely gotten into drugs and making horrible life decisions. I spent the better part of a year trying (with help from our other friends from the aforementioned group) to help him out but he's too far gone so we've all pretty much given up on him. He won't let us help him so there's nothing we can do. Kinda sucks.

So yeah. I still look back fondly on our friendship though. But he's the best friend I've had so far.

Let's see.
he goes to Oxford university. Is pretty dang smart. Good at martial arts, he's even been training military-recruits. Likes videogames... and alcohol. I got to know him through my oldest friend (in the term the one I have known the longest).
Oh, and he HATES it when I call him Brit-twit.

I have known my best friend for most of my life. He and I are extremely similar- movies, music, games, etc are almost all in common. We learned to ride horses, motorcycles, and drive together.

He taught me how to shoot a gun, clean a fish, and took me hunting the first time I went.

I taught him ...pretty much everything.

Before he met me he had not once read a non-school related book. That he could remember, anyway. Now his own personal library (which is at my house, I might add) has well over a thousand books.

Before he met me, his music taste was whatever his parents were listening to. Now his itunes account has over 99 straight days of music, spanning all genres.

Because of me, he has discipline. We quit smoking together. Quit one day, and never smoked again.

He once called me at three in the morning on a day I had to go to work and told me his car was broke down. In Dallas. I live in the middle of Oklahoma. Without even thinking about it, I sent my boss a text telling him I had a family emergency and would not be at work today and went to get him.

When he joined the army and went through basic, we played chess by way of mail. I took a three day leave from work to go pick him up when he graduated. We've got plans to travel the world when he finishes his military duties, which will not be for another four years.

He is closer to me than my brother. I know without a doubt that he has got my back, whether he agrees with me or not. When shit goes down, I've always got someone on my side.

Means a lot to me.

.....God, that was mushy. In my defense, I'm fairly drunk and it's 3:39am. Time to go to sleep now. 'Night, folks.
