Hello fellow escapee's! second thread here, hope you like it :)
(any grammar problems, just tell me)

I was sitting here watching military history channel and as usual i would daze of thinking about if i was in that war and whether i would survive and it and so on. (does anybody else do that?)

But the real question i propose to you is, If your country was in crisis would you sign up for the army?

I mean as in threat of invasion. Like the nazi's were thinking of invading england. I would definetly sign up! as i would feel a sense of pride in trying to protect my family and friends by fending of the savage beasts!
I think the flaw with this question is that, if your country was invaded by another that posed a serious threat, conscription would likely be in effect. You'd have no choice in the matter.

Yes, immediately. As I have said before, I would fight and die for Ireland. Assuming the war wasn't an act of aggression on our part, and we were in danger of being attacked, then yes, certainly.

Frontline combat too, I can't imagine being much good at anything else. I wouldn't want it to have to extend to conscription though.

And were we to lose the conflict, I'd simply take my rifle, scatter to the forests and conduct a war of attrition!
Gives a whole new meaning to your avatar!

No. I'm not going to just walk off, have a gun pushed in my hands, and execute a plan from someone I've never seen or heard off. I'd rather have some local militia or something.

I think the vast majority of able men and women would gladly sign up to serve their countries in morally defensible war.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of wars are not morally defensible.

Now there is a percentage of any population that will serve its country regardless of justification - just as there is a percentage requiring it.

For my part, loyalty, faith, and obedience should be absolute and absolutely deserved. I'll do as ordered if I can count on my commander to steer me right and true.

With regard to my specific country, this trust has been largely shattered. I feel zero sense of obligation to my government/country because they've done nothing to repay that trust for decades.

Nah. As others have said, my country is not worth dying for. NO WAY! And as i've said before, i would just take my friends and family and flee to another country.

Depends on the situation really- who's attacking, where, and what the chances are of victory or defeat and how significant the outcome of the war is. If it looks like the government will introduce conscription, then i will take the initative and volinteer before they do this, but volinteer into a desk-job roll in Whitehall, or failing that a military intelligence officer, so when the government do impliment conscription, they won't throw me onto the front line.

For me i guess it depends on the severity of the the threat, as i have some health problems that would otherwise prevent me from joining the armed forces.

Probably. I plan to join the army in the long run anyway, this would just make it easier to get motivated and what not.

I probably wouldn't. I'd fight to defend my friends and family, but not to defend something as malleable and abstract as a government. I wouldn't take lives for anything less serious than the direct protection of life, but I would die to defend the many freedoms that we have. I would die in non-violent resistance. Unless I totally wimped out and fled the country or something. I would hope that I wouldn't, but hey, in the heat of the moment who can be sure? Trial by fire is the only real way to tell.

In a heartbeat

I don't value much, but the people and things I do value, I would kill any son of a ***** that threatened them. Worst case, if we lost and were conquered, I'd keep that rifle and conduct guerilla warfare.

I intend to become an Army officer after college, so my answer goes without saying. However, who would ever invade the U.S.? Outside of the movie Red Dawn (which I have never seen all of) and MW2, the chances of that happening are slim to none.
