what is your favorite video game opening/intro mine comes from a little game from the ps1 called Roll-cage Stage II. It was a futuristic racing game with a boat load of weapons one of which if used while powered up (get same weapon while having one in 1 of 2 weapon slots) would jump you ahead TWO places. Another one would if it connected (and did not back fire from over charging) would freeze a car for about 6-8 seconds.
Here is the intro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2gnC1DcG2o&feature=youtu.be

Good God I Loved THIS GAME!!!!
sadly a sequel was never made. :(

The Fable 3 intro was pretty good. No, scratch that. Very good. It instantly came to mind.

Basically it involved a chicken in a slapstick escape attempt while Judi Dench narrated about rebellions and such.

FFVI had an absolutely fantastic intro. You and 2 other soldiers in armored mechs make their way to the small town of narshe. A bit slow, but it does an excellent job of drawing you in.

Bioshock without a doubt is the best intro i've seen, awe-inspiring and powerful then straight in to the action.

Fallout 3, Being born is one of the weirdest openings I've ever played.

All three Killzones have, in my opinion, the best intros in gaming.

Even though the game wasn't great, I've always loved the opening cutscene [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HcxMvprYa0] of Resident Evil Outbreak.

I''m not sure... I'd say Guardian Heroes or Chrono Cross.

Bioshock, Mass Effect 2.

I don't know if they're the best intros evar, but whenever someone says, "Awesome game intro sequences..." those are the two titles that instantly pop into my head.

Portal 2. I loved it.

Others would be Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and um... Diablo II.

Half-Life 2 opened very strongly. As Internet Kraken likes to (correctly, IMO) point out, you learn everything you need to know about the society you live in in a short space of time, with nary a word of exposition.

Homeworld was the opposite extreme - it started with an opening narration to the backdrop of a stylised cutscene. And when this ends, you get a normal cutscene (with in-game graphics), which depicts the launch of your mothership to the backdrop of Agnus Dei. It's very well done.

EDIT: Shit, I forgot to make an honourable mention of BF:BC2, with its WW2 opening. That noise... plus, I quite like that narrative technique.

Got to be Final Fantasy VIII, i mean come on guys, those graphics and that epic music back in the ol ps1 days. And the little text glimpses that just tease you. I sound a bit too into this.

Wipeout on the PS1

I don't know how it'll look to current gen eyes, but back in the day it was just so damn cool.

And C&C: Red Alert

If I ever become President I'll insist on this music being played every time I entered the situation room.
