Like the title says! Whether you're a tad irritated, rather pissed off, or completely exploding with hatred over something or someone; do you have any specific games that you use to help release some of that anger - and why that game?

I'm usually a fan of fighting games, myself, like Soul Calibur or Tekken. Something that's violent enough and not too strategically demanding. I would like to say FPS games as well, but I tend to suck at them, so the odds would be that I'd end up even more pissed off.

I'm both curious about you, and also I'm looking for tips for my own benefit. What genres/specific games do you prefer?

Well generally if something has me that stressed nowadays I'll go sit in a dark room with my eyes closed and think it over.

When I was a few years younger though I'd play an MMO if I needed to relax. If there is anything a mindless skinner box game is good for it's forgetting your problems. (although the only ones it tends to fix are those which were never a real problem)

I don't normally play games when angry for fear I'll start failing and get even angrier. If I do play a game, it is probably an RPG where there's so many things to keep track of that I don't have time to think about why I'm angry. Of course, it can't require keeping track of all that to do good in combat, as that will just get back to the original problem I have with playing games while angry. It would probably be something like The Elder Scrolls games where there is so much stuff to do to keep me distracted outside of combat that I don't have time to think about other things.

I play DOA 5 for a few minutes then wack off.

Or I'll listen to death metal & wack off.

probably an rpg or a strategy game, a good infinite loop of "one more turn..." tends to subside the anger quickly, that or I'm enjoying a story and its characters too much to care about being angry.

a fighting game and fps are probably the two worst choices for me, fighting games tend to make my anger skyrocket and fps's just get irritating after a while.

Vindictus or Dynasty Warriors.

There's just something calming about carving through hordes of enemies that just never stood a chance.

If I really need to cool off,I'll just play Banished in one of my established cities. Something about the yearly cycles of mining, building new homes, and farming, along with picturing how their lives must seem is quite refreshing...until I decide to take in some nomads and have to express build enough stone houses for them.

I had a tendency of playing Perfect Dark. Go to the Combat Simulator, set up a match on Felicity, make all the enemies MeatSims, make the loadout my favorite weapons (Falcon 2, CMP-150, Laptop Gun, and a few others), go nuts for ten minutes or so.

A new game.

Seriously, I have quite a backlog of games I haven't played yet. When my mood is poor, and it's something I can't actively work towards fixing/resolving, I'll play something new to me. I've found that playing games that I'm familiar with doesn't distract me away from issues occupying my mind. However, games in my backlog tend to have me learning characters, exploring lore and learning the particular twists in the mechanics of the game. That tends to allow my mind to wind down as I stop focusing on whatever was bothering me.

The God of War series.

I have one of those games that's on going and I don't play it unless I'm really angry. Right now it's God of War III on the hardest difficulty, and let me tell you, you will be swearing enough to not remember why you're angry in the first place. I think it's a very cathartic series since it's really nothing more than button mashing, but the combat is really fluid and smooth so that you can go into a murderous zen-like rampage.

Plus you kill all the things and bask in the blood of your enemies, what more do you want? :D

'Call of Duty: World at War', specifically the level where you storm the Reichstag.

The music and the enemies all combine for one perfect bulletfest towards which you can vent all your anger.

I play Skyrim. Usually, if I'm really pissed off, I'll play my super OP character that has zero shout cooldowns and crazy magic from mods. I run around in slowed time while blasting people into the air. I do random shit like: slow time, fus-ro-dah someone away from me, whirlwind sprint ahead of them, and then fus-ro-dah them back the other way. It's like playing catch... by myself... and with bodies.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (yes it is in fact a word) for me. I just play the opening level because it's fucking COOL.

That and maybe Hearthstone because it's kind of calming in a way. Prepare to face a Mage not quite like any other... FULL SECRET ABUSE DECK ACTIVATE!

We have Secretkeepers, we have Kirin Tor Mages, we have Ethereal Arcanists, we have Mana Addicts, we have two copies of every single Mage secret aside from Mirror Entity and Ice Field coupled with all the high end damage spells. My one annoyance is how I only have one Spellbender because that card can be broken against buff heavy decks. A sub-par Counterspell against damage only spell decks like Mage or Warlock but hilarious against Paladin or Druid. That's a nice +4/+4 you have there... Would be a shame if it were to mysteriously go missing right?

I've never even seen anyone else play a Secretkeeper before, hell I didn't even know she was a card until I had a really long study of my deck. I guess a card scaling only on secrets is only good in a very situational Mage deck since that's the one that even has a substantial amount of secrets. Still, no Rogue secrets? Poor show Blizzard, they're supposed to be the sneaky bullshit deck.

Generally dont play games when angry thats a recipe for disaster I usually just read a book or watch something or even do some physical training (prefer to be calm and focused when doing this though).

I did play the K-on PSP game for a long time though and I find that helps get rid of a load of stress.

Something slow, relaxing and most definitely single player. Crusader Kings 2, Anno, maybe a Total War game. Something sufficiently demanding of me mentally to occupy my mind while it works through shit in the background. If I'm just stressed, then something grindy is preferable, Diablo 2 or 3, maybe solo leveling in an MMO. Something that lets me just zen out and chill while everything simmers down.

Dark Souls.

Sounds like a terrible idea but it's actually great.
Throw on some music that makes you feel like a badass and single-handedly fight off a world where everything wants to kill you.
There is no better feeling.

This, although I unfortunately don't have a backlog due to completing games rather quickly.
I found Dark Souls to be good though, as I'd be concentrating so hard on not dying a 50th time that I'd stop thinking about anything else. Thankfully I don't get angry at games, apart from FIFA because screw FIFA.

That is a damn good choice.
I usually play something like GTA and drive down crowded sidewalks at top speed or cause large explosions.
But if its road rage I got, I have to turn to Burnout Revenge.

Coping with stress is probably the best use of video games. The old farts at fauxnews like to blame video games for causing kids to go on some berserk shooting spree but I wonder how many of those incidents games have prevented.
