J-pop
can't count how many times i've heard "oh so you like japanese must. you must speak japanese" or ppl who think J-pop is just 12 year old jap girls singing like alvin and the chipmonks when my taste is actually closer to traditional rock

I'm apparently way too wide-minded or something, cause I'm a pretentious hipster when I'm chatting with the pop regular folk, and a blind moron who suckles at the radio teat amongst the music geek crowd, usually. Apparently beign able to enjoy Green Day (Though I haven't liked their post-American Idiot at all really) and Avant-Jazz Tech-Metal is an oddity or something.

I cannot stand instrumentals. Whenever I hear one, I tend to skip ahead looking for words, then move on if there aren't any. I also don't like live recordings.
Strangely, I seem to like songs that are apparently designed for teenage girls despite being a relatively normal adult male. No idea why, I just do.

When listening to different conductors conduct a work (since I listen to almost 100% instrumental and classical), it irks me when two works sound drastically different because the conductor thought the piece is better when this part has different dynamics or a different tempo. I get so used to hearing a section sound like beauty, then I get annoyed at another orchestra playing the same piece like a dissonant titflop.

There is no type of music that I can conclusively say I like or dislike. I think that's a quirk in and of itself.

The vast majority of my songs are in foreign languages that I can't understand a word of, yet some of them I absolutely love. However if I hear a English song where I can't tell what they're saying it'll annoy me, A LOT.

That should be strange enough to count as a quirk. :p

I'm a big metal/rock/electronic guy who usually doesn't like Top 40 stuff, so some people get surprised when I don't jump on the Lady Gaga/Justin Bieber/insert pop artist here hate parade. I just don't have time to hate something for being popular and non-offensive.

Hmm, y'know that's what i'm like now that you mention it. I'm going back and listening to a lot of openings from old anime I used to watch and damn that stuff is awesome. No idea how people can sing perfectly fine English and make it so hard to understand.

I have to conclude that I really enjoy stuff when it is clear that the creators had a load of fun when creating it. Like so:

It seems to extend past music as well. My favourite characters in UMVC3 and BlazBlue are Dante and Makoto respectively. Both fucking showboating across the screen, especially Dante.

Hazama is my favourite plot-wise though because have you HEARD his voice acting? He can't go one minute without being a delightfully evil prick, often involving evil laughter and long winded explainations of why all the good guys suck laced with insults.

He also has a sweet hat. Hats are OP.

Myself, I love it when a game soundtrack or game themed music has an arcade-style 'GO!' in it somewhere. That's really specific, but it's awesome.

That song was the reason I picked up Bass.

Another quirk I have is that I'll only listen to like, 7 or so songs at any given time and those 7 vary from week to week.

Female vocals. I only very rarely listen to artists/bands with male vocalists. Leave the singing to the ladies :)

It doesn't matter what genre it is, if the melody is catchy or strong, I'll probably like it no matter what genre it's in. I do appreciate good lyrics of course.

Everyone I know likes certain types of music and dislikes others, so it sometimes seems strange to people how I could like their favourites and something they hate.

Well, the majority of my music is very heavy metal, or things in that general spectrum/feel.

And then Scissor Sisters.

Not really a "quirk" more of a bizarre habit.

When I had sex with my first "proper" girlfriend in 1993 Fields of Gold by Sting was on the radio.

Whenever I hear that song now I have to strip to it. Started off as a joke and stuck.

Pisses me off when one of the lads puts it on the jukebox of the local. Think most of the folk in that pub have seen my testicles more than my wife has.
Why am I not surprised? =P

I'm sure that makes for some very interesting ...happenings.

OT: Um, I don't like screamo? That's not really a quirk but I don't really have any so eh.

I guess this, really. Whenever people ask me what my favourite music is, I always list my obvious preferences (classic rock) and leave it at that. So when I'm listing off this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz_WqVSDofg] and this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npQbPpDF6hA] as my favourites, I guess this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ok0glLJsr4] comes kind of out of the blue.

Mainly it is the fact that I can easily switch from listening to really extreme heavy metal like Pantera and Bathory, to really soft rock, like Duran Duran or Toto, without missing a beat. That always seems to confuse people. :D

I can listen to a good progressive/varied song multiple times back to back and not get tired of it. I'm talking about an unnatural amount to where I should rightfully be tired of it no matter how good it is, like 25 times in a row.

If a song is pretty much all rooted in one repetitive melody/beat/backing track from start to finish I want to put a drill-bit through my skull within the first minute or two. Needless to say I don't generally like modern popular music much. To test myself I just put on "somebody that I used to know" and by the 30 second mark I had the insatiable urge to fidget around to keep my brain engaged in something.

It's hard to describe, but..

I go through phases of being really excited/obsessed by songs/albums.

Time will pass, and inevitably my focus will shift. If, for whatever reason, something reminds me of one of these songs/albums..

I will obsess over it with the same renewed vigor as when I first discovered it.

(Regardless of how many times I've heard/obsessed about it before.)

While there is a theme to most of the music on my I-pod (Its all country, rock/metal, and alternative+Pendulum, and when it comes to political songs, 90% are Republican/Pro-war/Nationalistic songs), but then that gets taken to a weird area:

When you look at the political songs on my I-pod, Just about everything coexist. Theres Libertarians, [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsQzw_Ax8Cw] Democrats, [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UASyS-jUKKI] Republicans [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUWnl7UADYU] (and Republicans, [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiuL9-ZKYgA] and Republicans, [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVapbFnbGWY] And Republicans, [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esnSbBuf9f4] and Republicans..........)
