You saw that right. Its a moe anime about girls who go to schools (made on giant aircraft carriers)/live in a world where the most popular sport.........is fighting eachother with WW2 era tanks (Called "Tankerey"). And other than the main characters school of Oarai academy, every school has a theme that they follow. A British school with Matildas lead by a Churchill, An American School with copious amounts of Shermans of all varients, a Russian school with many T-34s and KV's who are the current champions, and the Championship favorites, A school with nothing but late-war German Tanks, al a the Tiger, King Tiger, Jagdpather, and a secret trump card which I will not spoil but leads to an awesome battle. Oarai however has a random hodge-podge of tanks from all over the world (Japanese Type 89, French Char B-1, American M3 Lee, German Stug III, and the main characters in a Panzer Mk. IV) and the whole anime is about them banding together to try and win the championship for the first time ever.
I remember going to this one [local] anime convention this year that showcased this particular anime... Only me and the dude running the projector knew about this anime (at least by name, at the time) and just seeing everyone react to just the concept, itself, was priceless...

Now, I feel like re-watching this series again... only, this time, pay more attention to the all of the tank-related references that went over my head during the first viewing... *stills knows next to nothing about tanks in general*

A PS1 era platformer with a Sonic-style life system, cute characters, bitchin' funky soundtrack (theremins, woooo!) and the polygoniest graphics I think I've seen outside of a DOS game. Weirdly enough, people on the internet seem to rememebr it, but few people I've met irl have even heard of it.

Also, Transformers Beast Wars, anyone? It seems to be a nostalgic thing for a lot of people but it tends to go undiscussed. So I guess it's not like I'm the only fan, I guess I'm just the only one who talks about it.

Steambot Chronicles. It's an open world game set in a fictional steampunk-ish world that appears to be about in the early 1900s in terms of technology. You plays as an amnesiac who washes up on a beach and tour the country with the band of the girl who finds you. Also you get a sweet, customizable giant robot car. It's just so freakin' charming.

Also speaking of giant robot cars, I think I'm the only one who remembers Basquash. It was an anime with a lot of Nike product placement about people playing basketball on a massive scale through city streets in giant robot cars, and the main character liked to bounce the ball off of building walls, hence, "Ba-squash." For some reason it seemed like the target audience was also the otaku demographic because it prominently featured an in-universe idol group, which was probably a bad move for a SPORTS anime.

Off-Topic: Damn it, Captcha, what do you mean chocolate mousse isn't math?!

As a Child I was a huge fan of a little-known comic book, I collected every issue involving the characters that appeared up until I got married. It's notable for having the first 'trans'-ish character I can remember in a comic ( also said character was also husband & wife, as well as brother and sister, no really... ). I even got all the '2nd version' of the comic, though imho it wasn't quite as good.... So much so that when they announced the movie, I was rather excited.... Yes I'm talking about guardians of the galaxy.

I mean I even collected the new warriors because it had Vance Astrovic in it.

Yeah also I collected 'sleepwalker', it almost pains me to admit it. it's about an alien trapped in a boys head, and it could only come out when the boy slept, oh yeah and it had wierd eye-beams that could do.... stuff

Marvel used to do the weirdest stuff

Why all of this ?

Pride? Duty ?

You screened it well but you must of known they wouldn't understand.

So why do it ?

Also I'm calling Blakes 7 as something pretty much only I love.
Both are big favourites in my house....

Bushido Blade (particularly 2). Absolutely loved the game and yet find myself having to explain to everyone what it is and why it would appeal to me.

Also, I like Battlefield Earth as a bad B-movie. No one seems to think of it that way since Travolta is in it but if you can get past the a-listers on the cast it's pretty ridiculous.

The Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre video game series. I am the only person I know that seems to have even heard of it, and I've never really seen anyone talk about it on the internet either. Which is weird, because the series was apparently good/popular enough among some people enough that it's had a decent number of remakes/re-releases.
Holy crap no. Those games are fantastic and Tactics Ogre was even re-released on the PSP.

Ogre Battle was one of the first games we got for the PS1. We (my brother and I) loved it and lost many an hour to it.

Final Fantasy Tactics ended up being the only game to defeat my love of Tactics Ogre.

I think I'm one of those few people who genuinely enjoyed MGS Portable Ops and still consider it to be in my top 3 MGS games. Recruiting soldiers was really addictive and it took out all the bullshit mechnics that the original Snake Eater had (e.g. fixed camera, having to eat food to preserve your stamina all the time, having to go into the cure menu to fix your wounds, having only a limited amount of weapons and items you can equip in your inventory at a time and all the other needless bullshit menu management you had to go through in that game).

I also like the fact that it doesn't over indulge itself in overly long cutscenes like the other games in the series do (which is mainly due to the limitations of the PSP). Instead it ops for the cool graphic novel style cutscenes that would later get used in Peace Walker. It was a much more efficient and stylish way of presenting the story in that game. Not to mention it had a cool villain and one of my favourite scenes in MGS:

It's biggest problem is that it was on the PSP and so camera control had to be mapped onto the directional buttons, which was not a great design choice. That and the fact that Kojima never worked on it means it gets constantly ignored by his fanboys.

Also Calling to the Night is incredible:

As far as I can tell, I am the only person who wants Persona 4: Dancing All Night unironically. I mean, come on. The Final Fantasy Rhythm game didn't seem to get any scoffs, or guffaws. I don't get why it's ok for one drawn out milked cash cow JRPG with fantastic music to get a rhythm game, but not another.

If this game also has P3 and PQ music, I won't ever need another music game again. Or until Paprappa 3.

Hmm...

Comic: The Red Star. A rare mix of Sci-Fi, spiritualism, magic and Russian cultural elements. A bold US comic with a unique style and story, petty that it has been abandoned due to low sales.

Game: Destroyer Command. A WW2 naval simulator revolving around destroyers, in depth gameplay and historically accurate. Unfortunately it was plagued by numerous bugs.

This Finnish power metal band called Stratovarius. In fact, the only reason I know about them is because the guy that did the DBZ Budokai video game soundtrack plagiarized a bunch of their songs.

I really enjoyed Prometheus, even if it doesn't hold a candle to the original Alien. I appreciate its numerous flaws, but like the film anyway, and defy anyone who thinks I'm a worse person for that. You have my kudos, good sir :)

Animorphs. While everyone else read Sweet Valley High or Goosebumps, I was reading Animorphs. Strange, since while I'm sure it wasn't the intended selling point, it had more blood and gore on average than any other teen book series, and matured with its audience utilizing far fewer end-chapter jump scares than Goosebumps.

I do recall someone once comparing it negatively to Power Rangers which was also big in my youth, but I don't feel that to be a fair comparison. These 'teens with attitude' are outgunned by about ten thousand to one by the aliens, their wise mentor is dead eaten alive by chapter 5 of book 1 and never revives, they can bleed and lose limbs (and so can everyone else, frequently), and one of the overarching themes is how insanely stressful such a life really is, particularly for their leader.
I literally grew up with Animorphs, and never managed to read every book in the series before I (apparently) grew out of it. Ah well, my local library has pretty much all of them. Might have to give them a read again once I'm done with the Rivers of London series.

For my part, I think I'm the only person in the UK to have read any of Ian Irvine's work. Specifically, his Three Worlds Cycle. He's fairly popular in his native Australia, but most stores I visit over here have one or two of his books in, or none at all. Which is a shame, because as far as fantasy fiction goes he definitely deserves a lot more recognition, and his world-building is some of the greatest I've ever seen in literature.

Code Lyoko was cool, and pretty unique at the time (at least among the animation I tended to watch as a kid). I do intend to watch the whole series at some point as I only ever used to dip in and out of it, not following the ongoing plots and stuff, but it was pretty awesome nonetheless...

There was a pre-youtube animator who was similar to David Firth in that his animations were really disturbing but pretty funny too. Again, I can't remember the animator's name but I never hear people talk about his creations such as Rats on Cocain, Father Tucker (the Child F*cker), and Preemie-Pete. He also had stand-alone cartoons such as The Chronicles of EGOT. I'm sure you can find those on Youtube now and they were definitely on Newgrounds. Unlike Happy Tree Friends, I don't think he found a lot of success and unlike Salad Fingers and other things by David Firth, you don't really see people talk about his cartoons which is kind of a shame. The sound quality of his stuff was pretty bad but the content was solid (so long as you don't mind disturbing internet cartoons).

Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines. It was a squad based RTS from back in the Windows 95/98 days. I have yet to meet a single soul that even knows about this game (Which is odd considering it's on both Steam and GOG)

So good to see Saor getting some recognition! Amazing band,

Anyway, my turn I suppose.

I've been a fan of this band (now a solo project) since 2009. The only people I knew that was aware of this band were people I showed the band to. They're from Tasmania and Australian music has been notoriously hard to market because of touring costs. This is exacerbated by how goddamn extreme Separatist are.

But I love 'em. Excellent songwriting, a mixture of brutality and melody... ahh, so refreshing. The guitar riffs are insane too.

I heard from Ancient Bards after listening to the latest Ayreon album: The Theory of Everything. The girl's voice is amazing! I will probably look into their music.

On topic: Knights in the Nightmare for the Nintendo DS. It was the most original and hardcore JRPG i have ever played like... EVER. Too bad the DS was flooded with great JRPGs and it was kinda overshadowed by Kingdom Hearts 358's release around the same time.

Maybe it's a regional thing. Everyone my age read Animorphs in elementary school. It was the most popular young adult series around, bar none. The teachers always had loads of them to distribute via bookorder. Also, for those of you who didn't stick around until the end of the series...

Maybe reconsider rereading it. It has a really huge downer ending.

My "thing that I like that no one else seems to have ever heard of" is a fantastic little Hulu original series called "The Booth at the End". I've never met anyone who has even heard of it that I didn't introduce to it. It consists of two seasons of 5 half-hour episodes. The show focuses on a mysterious man who always sits in the last booth of a classic greasy-spoon diner, all day every day. The show follows a series of characters who meet with the Man, all of whom have heard vague, fantastic tales about his ability to grant them their heart's desire. Upon hearing their wish, he then opens a well-worn book which he constantly keeps at hand, and reads them a task that must be accomplished for them to get what they want. The Man repeatedly claims that he doesn't actually *do* anything - the tasks these people undertake are what grant them their desires, he is nothing more than a middleman. However, as the season progresses, people must return, and give the Man details of their task as they work to complete it. It's a delicious little drama, trying to guess how these people's tasks are ultimately going to result in the fulfillment of their wishes, and picking up the scant few hints the series is willing to toss you about the nature of the Man. The entire thing has a vague air of the Twilight Zone about it - it's just fantastic.

Also, speaking of Middlemen, "The Middleman" is fantastic, too-smart-for-its-own-good comic book sendup that lasted half a season on ABC. It's sensational and you should watch it. I do know one person other than me who has seen it, though.

Holy shit! I LOVE The Middlemen! That show ended TOO damn soon, I tells ya!! <color=white>(And, I think it came out before ABC Family, the channel that was showing it, started showing all these other drama-based series mainly targeted to young adult females...)
*remembers theme song fondly* Middlemen!

Well, judging by a lot of people's posts in Dragon Age: Inquisition threads, I think I may be the only person who is a fan of Sera.

I ended up doing the full romance with Sera during the course of the game. At first, she was a tolerable nuisance, but over time she grew on me and I found myself liking her character a great deal. Other folks don't seem to be too keen on her, I've found.
