Out of all the Zelda gimmicks (dual worlds, time travel, sailing) that defined each game, which do you think was pulled off the best?

Personally, Majora's Mask was had the best gimmick. Unlike WW where the mechanic was necessary but also endlessly frustrating, or TP where the Twilight Realm was quickly forgotten after the third dungeon or so, the 3-days mechanic was easy to pull off, very difficult for the player to botch up, and played a huge part in the immersing the player into Termina. The only consequence of having to start from day 1 again was losing all you deku stuffs, arrows, and rupees (the later easily taken care of by the nifty little bank), and there was even a notebook that helped to coordinate what everyone would be doing at any given time. And because it all took place across a 3-day scope, you were able to give the NPCs free range to actually go from place to place and mingle without having to worry about missing it for not being in two places at once.

So what are you favoritesHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM????

'Link Faces Of Evil' had this awesome gimmick of being really bad and unplayable. It was implemented really well.

EDIT: But to be serious, I have to agree with you on Majora's Mask. Great game with a unique concept.

I'd have to say the dual worlds from Link to the Past, but your choice of Majora's Mask is definitely a very close second.

... Admittedly, I'm a bit to tired right now to explain why, but to everyone else, see OP.

I liked playing as the wolf in Twilight Princess. I did not appreciate the time limit in Majora's Mask . It the game way to stressful, especially since I have a habit of solving the puzzles without solving them.

Actually a lot of the Zelda gimmicks are dual world gimmicks (Ocarina of Time, A link to the past, Oracle of ages, Twilight princess...) It's true that the MM gimmick was pretty original but I found it incredibly annoying that you could only save by going back into time or find one of those owl statues. Personally I found the Link to the Past gimmick the best one (mainly because you can turn Link into a pink rabbit.)

I will say that Link to the Past would be a close second for me. Not only did it act as a a great stand-alone overworld with good npcs, little nooks and cranies to explore with real benefits to doing so (new spells, power-ups, etc.), the best ****ing zelda music ever (besides gerudo valley), and great ominous atmosphere, but it synced up with the light world for inventive puzzle solving quite well.

Well time travel in Oracle of Ages was done in OoT, so my favorite is season changing in Oracle of Seasons. That one is actually my favorite in the series. I did enjoy linking the two games if that counts.

If any of you want some severe mind rape, there's this

I kind of like Zelda's voice in that...At least, I THINK that was Zelda...But everyone else's voice was pretty crappy.

Anyway, Majora's mask was done pretty well, as was the Ocarina of Time. It was necessary for gameplay, bud didn't intrude upon everything you did the way that the time limit and masks did.

Unlike a lot of people, I liked the sailing gimmick in Wind Waker.
I did not, however, like the sailing in Phantom Hourglass.

I actually liked randomly puttering around in my boat in WW. Those random Squid encounters were intense.

I liked the alternate dark world in Link to the Past. I personally found the 3 day concept in Majora's Mask so annoying as to make the game unplayable. I just gave up and promised myself if they ever made another time dependant game I wouldn't buy it.

Majora's Mask was my favorite too. I really liked the idea for Oracle of Seasons, but they didn't do a great job with it, in my opinion.
