I prefer flying around on Epona for sure, but the sailing wasnt bad, talking about this game puts me in the mood to play it, Its been a few years. Might dust of the Wii, I'm sure its going cheap now!

I honestly got tired of using that fucking baton to change the wind's direction every time I had to go somewhere. It just became obnoxious busywork after a time.

Windwaker is probably my favorite zelda game to, specifically because of the sailing. I liked a lot of things about it, but the sailing always made the world feel big and relaxing. like you could just have link sit out there and sail for hours. And it was always fun stumbling across an island or an Archipelago or one of those floating outposts. and just running into the sailing merchants was always fun.

I hated the sailing. You had about 20 minutes between each island which you couldn't quite just leave running and do something else, but nor were you really doing anything at all. I was like having to do 20 minutes of Desert Bus inbetween dungeons.

I loved the sailing in Wind Waker. It captured a real sensation of travel, and made the world feel delightfully open; that and the island sidequests were what tied Wind Waker for my second-favorite Zelda game (Twilight Princess' story and dungeon design made it the other tying run).

With Gannon being the best ending fight in a Zelda Game so far.
It was a little easy for me, but the build up was quite a challenge.

Anyway I enjoyed the sailing and the challenge of fighting baddies on the open sea ... it made for a sense of danger that you don't tend to get in games like platformers. Action games will put lava around you or whatever, but an open sea ... maybe I just don't dig drowning.

Further, to the people complaining about the sailing, you could very quickly gain the porting ability ... granted you couldn't port EVERYWHERE, but it was still easily accessible.

sure the sailing was monotonous but it wasn't THAT bad. the main problem I had with the game was that it was a bit easy. sure having to sail for 3 or 4 minutes at a time was boring but at least the general game was fun and interesting. prefer Wind Waker over Majora's Mask
