Zeno Clash Sequel Due This Year

Punch elephants. Appreciate art.

I think it's safe to say that of all the games about punching giant, child-stealing, hermaphrodite bird monsters in the face, Zeno Clash is easily the best. The bizarre first-person brawler was met with both confusion and delight when it launched in 2009. While it didn't make a fortune, it sold well enough to convince Chilean developer, ACE team, to start work on a sequel. According to lead designer, Carlos Bordeu, Zeno Clash II should be hitting shelves this spring.

During the development of Zeno Clash, ACE Team consisted of 8-9 artists and just one coder, and that showed in the final product. The game's combat wasn't bad, but it paled in comparison to the visual design. With an art style pitched somewhere between Oddworld and the work of Hieronymus Bosch, Zeno Clash depicted a universe that was often funny, occasionally frightening and always fundamentally alien. It was Double Dragon by way of Salvador Dali and it was glorious.

There's a handful of Zeno Clash II screenshots available on the game's official website. The most sensible one depicts a man fighting an elephant clad in makeshift armor. I have no idea why he's fighting said elephant, and judging by the muddled narrative from the first game, I'll likely be just as confused by the time the credits roll. All I know is that I really want to fight that elephant.

Zeno Clash II is tentatively scheduled for a spring, 2013 release on 360, PS3 and PC.

I think that's being a bit hard on the combat. Yes, it was amazing to look at, but I have still yet to find a first-person game with more satisfying melee combat. The way everything is weighted and moves just feels so right compared to all the crap we're usually given in stuff like the Elder Scrolls games. In Zeno Clash, when you throw a punch, you can tell you're putting your entire body behind it. They went for something that could've failed spectacularly by having all the player character's limbs and body move like that and the camera viewpoint follow along, but it really paid off and made it feel so much more solid than in most games, where you're just floating along flapping your arms around in front of you.

Awesome! That game was really fun, I have played through it twice. I feel like it didn't get a lot of exposure, perhaps because it does not really fit into the existing genres and was a new IP.

Glad to see we will get more.

Fuck yeah! Zeno Clash was awesome... combat was iffy a lot of the time... but it's basically impossible to find another world as fascinating and creative, in both it's visual design and underlying mythos...<.<

OK first post on escapist.
I came here because I started a thread about Zeno Clash Ultimate Edition on another site and no one really checked it out. This game was hands down brilliant, and I agree that the combat was "gritty". Brawlers need to have that gritty feeling to them.

I mean, dare I say that it felt like Punch Out when you lock on to an enemy in order to dodge and counter?
Absolutely one of my favorite games of the year and I'm way into the sequel.

The story is super engrossing and strange, just like all the characters, but it is ZENO clash.

I can't believe that I didn't find out about this game until this year...bralwers mixed with FPS seems like a no brainer in this generation, but no one has done anything like this game. I will never play a FPS again without comparing it to Zeno Clash.

Check out Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and Breakdown for the Xbox. They both did the first-person brawler thing back in the day.

Awesome news. Loved the first one despite having so little clue about what was going on. Shame I found about it so late
