A lot of shooting at far-away people while they pick you off at a mile away? Yep,sounds like multiplayer...

I guess the search for profit inevitably led EA to model itself around Activision's golden-egg-laying duck. My greatest excitement over the release of BF3 and MW3 was Benjamin's review of those games. One down, with one more to go.

As I predicted here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/6.319929-Zero-Punctuation-Kinect?page=2#13062231] some weeks ago, no mention of the multi player game which is the main point of the Battlefield series. The justification for this by Yahtzee was pretty laughable.

The bit complaining about not being able to fly a plane and that the engine would be good for a flight sim, would been very funny if that was not precisely what happens in the multiplayer game.

Yahtzee should just recuse himself from reviewing battlefield games if he is only capable of reviewing at most half the game. I have an excuse for not reviewing it as well. Blame the spyware you would have had to have loaded to play the best version on the PC. That could have been quite funny....

PLEEASE, YAHTZEE, DO AN ANOTHER INTRO SEQUENCE THEATER! pweez? With all seriousness, thet one with Painkiller was awesome, and yes, I am aware of Unskippable, but it's not the same thing!

I have to say, Yahtzee's whole ignore-that-multiplayer-exists routine is getting a bit stale. Yes, the single player was woeful, but it's a primarily multiplayer game. I mean, would you review Left 4 Dead without including the multiplayer? After all, it can be played solo.

Although, I guess that EA was kind of asking for it in this case, considering how much they hyped up BF3's bloody campaign.

Suprised he didn't go on about the Rat Battle QTE...
:p
Though, i found myself going 'Oh yeah... that'd be terrible' in a rather dreamy and sarcastic manner when it talked about MW's Snowmobile chases and James Bond style stuff...
:D

Anyway, i'll be getting this for the Multiplayer, but not the singleplayer.

Hopefully this thread won't devolve into people comparing BF3 and Modern Warfare 3 and asking over and over why Yahtzee only talked about the single-player in a multi-player focused game. Oh, who am I kidding?

Good review, the last line during the credits made me chuckle only slightly less than a few of the jokes did. "The Joker" on the list of enemies was particularly amusing.

While you are entirely entitled to reviewing the singleplayer, it is kind of pointless. The game strength lies in its multiplayer after all, and that should be your entire reasoning for buying this game. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to buy it for the singleplayer..unless you like bad games.

Wait, when did you ever start trusting the EA marketing department, Yahtzee?

OF COURSE they'd say the single player was just as important as the multiplayer. And not just because they're EA. Hell, they let BioWare get away with saying that ME3's multiplayer is purely ancillary.

It's common knowledge by now that you play Battlefield 3 for the multiplayer, and almost every single review of the game acknowledges that. I don't think you gave the game a fair shake overall, but then again, ripping apart a mediocre campaign is kind of your forte.

Stick with what you're good at, I guess. Just don't act like the entire game is unoriginal just because one part of it is.

"You must reach a minimum level of 'Suck My Cock!' Battlefield 3!"

Greatest, last line, ever.

I've been on the fence about BF3. I'm not thrilled about the fact that I HAVE to buy the game new in order to get the full experience, as opposed to MW3 which I can get off of Gamefly/Redbox and not have any aspect of the game locked off to me. Being that I am more of a SP guy as opposed to MP, it seems even more fucked up for me to have to buy a game to use a part of it I'm not even a big fan of.

Maybe if enough people sway me I'll use one of the many $50 Best Buy gift cards I have and pick up a new copy of it.

Yeah, it kinda bothers me some too. Like when he played Borderlands by himself, but complained about making a Fear 3 co op because it makes players care less about the story. That's what Borderlands is! But I guess he still likes Borderlands enough to bring it up occasionally.

Still don't know if I'm gonna pick this one up. Sounds all right enough, in the sense that OTHER people don't seem to have too much of a problem with it.

When it comes to shooter games, I tend to avoid the AAA "Big Budget" titles either for a few months, or completely, since they so totally revolve around the multiplayer. My one exception is the Rainbow Six series, since they tend to be of a higher caliber overall. They very rarely stray into the "grey-brown" shooter territory. The gun and bullet physics are awesome, too. But, the grenade physics could use a little work.

Oh well, no game is perfect since the Tetris/SMB3 Cabal.

Not really surprised.

Of course he went on about the QTE's. But hey at least it was somewhat funny.

Also I actually liked the story (yes I dare have a different oppinion to what Yahtzee thinks).

They say a singleplayer is as important as multiplayer. So why is it so bad?

I'm surprised he didn't complain more about the lens flare. I got killed in one part several times because I couldn't see who was shooting me due to a large floating orange glow. When I finally got through I went to see what was causing it: the relection of a street light in a small puddle *shrug*
