Aww. I like the Overlord games. Oh, well. It least the review made for a good ZP. Hopefully Yahtzee's review can drive down the price a bit. Cheers.

On the subject of D&D, WotC has been trying to push it as being cool, hip, and not (just) for nerds anymore. Reminds me of when they tried to make Loony Toons X-TREEEME!!

Hm, I thought about renting the game, but this does not sound too promising. Maybe I'll borrow it off a friend.

Also, I realise that this is a minority problem, but why are all minions everywhere always female? Some of us dudes here might like some more options, and I am sure that some ladygamers would have similar views.

Oh bullcrap. What is so bad about linearity? Not every game can be a good sandbox game - in fact, most sandbox games are shit. Actually most points aren't criticism but nitpicking and the latter never improved humanity in the slightest.

ZP doesn't improve humanity by the power of valid criticism. It makes people laugh. At least it should but this fell flat for me due to this self-indulgent critic bit at the beginning. And the most frustrating aspect of this is: I don't even like the stupid game. There could've been so much said about its flaws. But no, generic fantasy world and flimsy design, wow. Next time Yahtzee pans a game for "realistic" graphic he has officially declared himself a hypocrite.

This is something I never understand - you were thinking of trying the game out, but because Yahtzee, someone that sensationalizes poor points about a game and generally acts as though he hates everything for comedic effect says its bad, you won't try it...

That's pretty stupid...besides which the role of a critique is not to improve aspects of the game it is to criticise them...criticism is subjective, and going on about the bad points of the game without offering any form of suggestion as to how it could be improved helps nobody...

i said i wouldn't buy it, but i will rent it just to see if it is any good, i have the original overlord and i really like it

Sorry Yahtzee, while I love your satirical reviews, I have to disagree with you on Overlord 2. The sweeping works better on console and I genuenly enjoy the writing style of the game.

I agree with you on that one, linear games are not all that bad and Overlord 2 is semi-linear, after all you can go anywhere on th any of the small maps you are on.

However I think they can mabe include a few more fetures in this game. For example I liked how you would get your missions from people requesting an audience, I wish they could have expanded upon that even more and gave you more optional side quests from these people (and you could either agree or send them plumiting to their deaths).

i enjoyed overlord 2 but i must say that some bits were annoying.
i found that the minions wear funny, the mistresses usless (apart from on video near the end of the game)

but i think the main problem here was the fact the pc version was used i have the ps3 version and the minions control just fine

I'm surprised that Yahtzee was able to turn down a game that fulfills his evil fantasy's.

Regardless of the fact that the game is fucking abysmal, I'd imagine malevolence would cloud his view.

I really don't think the last game was the GROUND-BREAKING epic that warranted a sequel.
...Maybe a retraction...

If you buy all the tower upgrades for a specific mistress, you do get to have sex with her. Doesn't show anything but it does shake the entire tower.

The mistresses do decide which mounts you're given on the final level too.
Country Girl = Wolves for browns
Big titted City Girl = Spiders for greens
Not-so-good Elf Girl = Salamanders for reds

There are some parts where I have to disagree with Yahtzee. It's told early on, through the first starting mission, that you have a grudge (and a sort of duty as an evil overlord) against the Empire. They tried to kill you as a little boy and they are trying to kill/detain everything magical (the Overlord is magical/knows magic). But I do have to agree on the part about it being close to Fable, ESPECIALLY the art direction (just take a look at the minimap from both games and compare them, the sameness is staggering!).

Minion resurrecting hasn't really gotten anything to do with you being endeared to the imps. The imps have individual leveling, so sacrificing 20 level 1 imps to resurrect a fallen lvl 10 imp is for convenience sake. As for caring about them... Well I didn't really, but the perfectionist in me made me reload every time 3 or more high level imps died (especially if it was a random enemy and not a boss). It was just so frustrating. And yes... the imp controlling is pretty bad, but not as bad as in the first one. Random fuck-ups still happen now and again when trying to direct them through holding down both mouse buttons. The ladies in the game... just part of the story and there to look good and strengthen the, "evil overlord" aspect they are trying to give you.The moral choices in this game however, are shallow and unnecessary.
