I just can't relate to this hate culture anymore. Some constructive criticism is always welcome and that's what we got in the earlier work, but this, this is just silly, like drunk teens, feeling smart and hating on everything.

The worst part is that there are people who actually take this seriously.

I'm an American. I hated Oblivion. It was something shiny with horrendous combat and poor design decisions.

And on your point about there being murderers, pedophiles, idiots etc. etc. in all countries;

"In pure number terms, more crimes are committed in America than in any other nation. The same goes for burglaries, car thefts, rapes and assaults.**"

"Russia has almost twice as many judges and magistrates as the United States. Meanwhile, the United States has 8 times as much crime.**"
Pure number terms, maybe. But I could also throw out per capita statistics that put Russia to shame.

(In fact several countries are ahead of the US on the Human Development Index, a measure of Quality of life, of which USA doesn't even come close to the top 10.)
"Not even close"? The number 10 country was 0.952. America stood at a flat 0.950, which made them 14 (Russia is somewhere in the .8s, which means they didn't even make the top thirty). The statistical difference is almost negligible. "Not even close" is such blatant intellectual dishonesty that I want to cry. Oh, and by the way, 0.950 is the baseline for the highest rank of quality of life.

Let's also point out that Norway - the number one country - is blessed with such an amazing abundance of natural resources that it would take a blundering fool for the place to fall into disrepair. As well, cost of living is 30% higher than the US and 25% higher than the UK. On top of that, thanks to the liberal nature of their government, taxation is extremely high to compensate for all the national programs.

This is not true, in a survey by Nationmaster.com only 2% of asked Americans said that they are proud of their nationality. The top nations were Japan, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Norway.
That's a bald-faced lie.

United States is tied for number one with Ireland. Ireland! Let me know the next time you meet an Irishman who is dispassionate about his heritage.

Hehe "Americans can only relate to other Americans" ZP is accurate (although a little biased - I adress this further down the post) as always.

As usual when someone waves a deserved stick at the USA, someone takes the defensive position. Just put yourself in our shoes. We are mostly educated people making these remarks, because frankly we are sick of our games getting dumbed down so they'll sell better in America.

A classic example is the game Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and it's successor Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion*. The first sold much more in Europe and Asia than it did in America. Most American game reviewers gave the game a much lower score on average than the European press did. The result? Bethesda amputated and dumbed down TESIV: Oblivion so much that it was hard to see it as a true Elder Scrolls game when it came out. In this case the reviews were the total opposite, as it was praised by the American press. (The top 10 reviews were all 100/100 reviews. 9 out of these were by American reviewers, and 1 was Australian.*)

And on your point about there being murderers, pedophiles, idiots etc. etc. in all countries;

"In pure number terms, more crimes are committed in America than in any other nation. The same goes for burglaries, car thefts, rapes and assaults.**"

"Russia has almost twice as many judges and magistrates as the United States. Meanwhile, the United States has 8 times as much crime.**"

"Most Americans think we are #1 in everything positive. Norway is an example of a nation far ahead of us in a number of quality of life issues."
-nationmaster.com

(In fact several countries are ahead of the US on the Human Development Index, a measure of Quality of life, of which USA doesn't even come close to the top 10.) Some of these countries:
Iceland 0.968 (▲ 1)
Norway 0.968 (▼ 1)
Australia 0.962 (▬)
Canada 0.961 (▲ 2)
Ireland 0.959 (▼ 1)
Sweden 0.956 (▼ 1)
Switzerland 0.955 (▲ 2)
Japan 0.953 (▼ 1)
Netherlands 0.953 (▲ 1)
France 0.952 (▲ 6)

Most people not from the US tend to think that Americans are the most patriotic population in any nation. This is not true, in a survey by Nationmaster.com only 2% of asked Americans said that they are proud of their nationality. The top nations were Japan, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Norway.

Anyway, I won't go further off track with this. I just wish that more games with actual depth would come out than what is already the case. Out of last year's (2008) releases, only two has lived up to my expectations of a game, and they were Fallout 3 and X3: Terran War.

I'm glad that Yatzhee kinda nailed the most important points: beautiful game with great platforming, but questionable storyline and craptastically horrid combat. Could not agree more, glad you're still fighting the good fight!

Yahtzee is awesome for actually reading emails, though he prolly didn't read mine ~_~

I hate commercials that make you think the game's gonna be good. Cause when you buy it and play it, you curse every single person who made that game for hours.

PoP was decent, but a total graphics whore. (you know it's true. don't even think about disputing me.)

P.S.-

Women who wear the "Press X to not Die" shirts get interesting comments. -_- I had one co-worker and at least 3 customers in Gamestop today giggle about wanting to touch my breasts.... "But if what you say is true... I'll die if I don't touch them!"

Very funny, people. Very funny.

I think the game is proof that sequals almost always fail because the basic nature of sequals is that they are not an original concept, and rarely and original idea/innovation/advancement is found within the sequal.

I personally liked the new Prince Of Persia. I also liked the 'Sands Of Time' trilogy too but this ones more fun for me because I like platformer style games a lot, but the fighting did give me the...well yeah it's obvious what I was gonna say so I wont. Now if Ubisoft would make the next one with the battle style of 'Warrior Within' and this new games exploration and platforming it would be one of the best games ever.

More than 3 sequels = automatic failure. Like always... but people dont learn.
Mario, Zelda, Metroid, MGS, CoD, etc.
Mario-wrong
Zelda-wrong
Metroid- somewhat wrong
MGS- very wrong
CoD- my god you're stupid
Er, MGS4 is a really good game. And CoD4 and CoD5? They're awesome! What's wrong with you? And another case of American accents. I think it's a disease.

Right here, along with almost everybody I know, we don't care about our heritage. It's not important at all in any way what-so-ever. Putting food on my table is, having a happy life is. Heritage is for school trips. Im gonna bet that most of the people who were asked were from the North of Ireland.

Great review, the most sad thing about this game is that it gets very very very repetitive after the first 20 min.... sad ...

"The Nameless One in a blender", fantastic and unexpected. Although I have a vague recollection that cremation could result in permanent passing away (notwithstanding not being able to steal souls in The Fortress Of Regret or whatever it was called)... why not a blender that aerosolised liquefied corpse and sprayed it far and wide?

In any case, bravo and very funny.

Sorry. It was a good review. I suspected he'd hate it more, but I guess not. Oh well. There's always next review for me to get my hate fix. :p
