I'm an American. I hated Oblivion. It was something shiny with horrendous combat and poor design decisions.Metalhandkerchief said:As usual when someone waves a deserved stick at the USA, someone takes the defensive position. Just put yourself in our shoes. We are mostly educated people making these remarks, because frankly we are sick of our games getting dumbed down so they'll sell better in America.
Pure number terms, maybe. But I could also throw out per capita statistics that put Russia to shame.Metalhandkerchief said:And on your point about there being murderers, pedophiles, idiots etc. etc. in all countries;

"Not even close"? The number 10 country was 0.952. America stood at a flat 0.950, which made them 14 (Russia is somewhere in the .8s, which means they didn't even make the top thirty). The statistical difference is almost negligible. "Not even close" is such blatant intellectual dishonesty that I want to cry. Oh, and by the way, 0.950 is the baseline for the highest rank of quality of life.Metalhandkerchief said:"Most Americans think we are #1 in everything positive. Norway is an example of a nation far ahead of us in a number of quality of life issues."

(In fact several countries are ahead of the US on the Human Development Index, a measure of Quality of life, of which USA doesn't even come close to the top 10.)
That's a bald-faced lie.Metalhandkerchief said:Most people not from the US tend to think that Americans are the most patriotic population in any nation. This is not true, in a survey by Nationmaster.com only 2% of asked Americans said that they are proud of their nationality. The top nations were Japan, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Norway.
Thank goodness.Metalhandkerchief said:Anyway, I won't go further off track with this.
Metalhandkerchief said:Hehe "Americans can only relate to other Americans" ZP is accurate (although a little biased - I adress this further down the post) as always.

A classic example is the game Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and it's successor Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion*. The first sold much more in Europe and Asia than it did in America. Most American game reviewers gave the game a much lower score on average than the European press did. The result? Bethesda amputated and dumbed down TESIV: Oblivion so much that it was hard to see it as a true Elder Scrolls game when it came out. In this case the reviews were the total opposite, as it was praised by the American press. (The top 10 reviews were all 100/100 reviews. 9 out of these were by American reviewers, and 1 was Australian.*)

Anyway, I won't go further off track with this. I just wish that more games with actual depth would come out than what is already the case. Out of last year's (2008) releases, only two has lived up to my expectations of a game, and they were Fallout 3 and X3: Terran War.

Er, MGS4 is a really good game. And CoD4 and CoD5? They're awesome! What's wrong with you? And another case of American accents. I think it's a disease.mambi said:Mario-wrongVlane said:Mario, Zelda, Metroid, MGS, CoD, etc.daedrick said:More than 3 sequels = automatic failure. Like always... but people dont learn.
