Ok. You do not need me to tell you that times are rough now. Ideologies have become more potent than any weapon there is. But at the end of it, we're all human. We all have feelings, desires, and goals. And we need to remember that we're not talking to factions, we're talking to people. So, let's take a moment to Re-Humanize.

It's simple. Just put up three pictures of things that mean something to you, and then three descriptions of why it's important to you. For a moment, let's connect.

That's right, ladies. I'm taken. Who'd thought a Russian girl would steal my heart all the way here in Western New York?

My New Love.jpg
That's right. Your boy has found his passion. I am going to become a professional pilot. I had my first lesson before the shut down. I've never been so terrified in my life. And I loved every second of it. I knew that's where I needed to be.

As a kid of the nineties, I was exposed to Techno. It was every where, and I loved it. But the sound was missing something. So I went to different subgenres of techno and oh my stars, when I found Drum and Bass... it was like finding a part of me. Something that I could never put into words. I felt right. I will always love Drum and Bass.

I was going to add a picture of me trying to grow a beard, but I'm trying to build bridges. Not scare people away. I don't know if this is going to go anywhere, but I'd actually like to get to know more about the people I've spent over a decade with.

That's a beautiful lovely cat! Keep her fluffy and safe! And happy to hear of your newfound piloting dreams becoming a solid reality. I've kinda been always wanting to be able to fly. Bit too poor and stuff to fulfill such desire though. Disappointed the DnB was only an image and not a track or two of your faves however. This oversight shall be forgiven in the spirit of the thread of course.

Tbh am not too comfortable sharing stuff that I feel could be used to identify me irl, but will drop a bit of guard for a bit mainly cos am on the wines and feeling less bothered.

More than any other single thing, what makes me drink martinis rather than other adult beverages? It is what my father drank.

My three picture story you say? Let me tell you what I had for lunch.

Lunch 001 (Frozen Veggie Potstickers marinating in Tamari Sauce and Sesame Oil).jpg

Around ten minutes before my GoSun Fusion reached the 350 degree temperature, I took my potsickers and marinated them with Tamari Sauce and Sesame Oil.

Lunch 002 (GoSun Fusion with Olive Oil in it, heated to 350).jpg

Yes, it did reach degrees of 350 just with the power of the Sun. Thank you for asking! According to the chart that came with Thermometer I used, it took one hour and 30 minutes to get the oil up to frying temperature.

Those of us who grill outside can easily consider that laughable. And on the surface, hell yeah, I know how long that takes. I was the one waiting for it. But the effort it took me to get to that was setting up the table, finding the angle of the sun, adjusting it twice, and then watching Pilot vlogs until I got a beep that it was ready. So I plopped them in and they were sizzling.

Lunch 003 (Potstickers after 10 minutes of Frying).jpg

This is the result after 10 minutes. I would say the wrapping was that perfect middle ground between being soft and fried. As you can see, the internal temperature was 188, so I had no questions if it was done. In fact, it was too hot to bite into. Olive Oil isn't my frying oil of choice (nor should it be anyone's), so there was some off taste due to that... but yeah. Huge success!

Now, this thing is great for me. If we were still allowed to go outside, I would go to a beach and set these up possibly the minute we get there. And then just dedicate one of these things for a task. One for frying, one for meats, one for... whatever. For a survival situation, it's heavily dependent on what you have on hand. With the Fusion model, I don't worry that much. I do have a Jackery 500 Power unit, and a 30 minute cooking session will bring it down to maybe 87% power. So it's a much more complete survival tool for me. If you don't have a station, of course it's only useful to you as long as you have the sun.

But it is vacuum sealed. I have tested this, and it does stay warm hours after you cook something. Not blazing hot as if you just cooked it and pulled it out, but warm enough that you can eat it.

So what could one say they learned about me today? I love my toys. So. Much. Legitimately, the thought of being able to make my own fries out on a beach has me so excited, I can't even say!

I understand that completely. I can't stand sports, but my dad played and watched baseball with me. I don't catch any games any more, but I do make a point to know what's going on with the hometown teams (Yankees and Mets)

---

sorry for the doubt post, everyone. I couldn't put my three pictures up and respond to Gorfias at the same time. So I had to do this.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get other things to attempt to fry with the GoSun.

I will always love Drum and Bass
If you had to pick one song to encompass what you love about drum and bass, what would it be? Because I've always been a lover of Techno, though I would probably say my particular flavor is more Trance, though the labels can change, and various DJ's can change up their style as time moves. For example, for me, Juno Reactor is probably one of the more consistent artists of the genre I love, but each album can be VASTLY different from another. I'm also a huge fan of Above and Beyond. I've probably listened to Drum and Bass plenty of times from various artists, but I can't recall it ever being indicated as "This is a Drum and Bass" kick. So I'm curious, if you had one song to say "This is the song of my Drum and Bass people." What is it?

Hmm... Ok, if we're talking about who I am with Drum and Bass in my life, it would have to be the 13th Floor by Bungle and DJ Marky. It is hands down tied for number one of my favorite songs I ever heard (The other song is "Award Tour" by A Tribe Called Quest). It makes me feel wonderful. The beauty in the music literally made me shed a tear because I could feel the music

But I feel like that's cheating. Not only because I've already posted it, but It isn't quite what you asked. The 13th floor makes me feel more like me. I love it for that. You basically asked what is the Ryu of Drum And Bass. That catch all representation of what the Drum and Bass world should be. Which is hard. With all the different kinds of styles of the genre there are, I think the best way to tackle this is picking the song I would be able to recommend to someone as a starting point.

I'm a lover who can get down with just the beat, but I know a lot of us consider good vocals to be essential to Drum and Bass. So I'm going to pick something with lyrics.

And what brings me life with Drum and Bass is the energy it fills me with. It courses through my veins when I hear a good track. I've seen a lot of other people express that at different youtube videos. And that usually goes with faster beats, so I'm going to go with something a little bit fast.

And of course, you need a drop in there.

So, I'm left with two options: California (Danny Byrd Remix) by Zarif or Midnight (M.I.S.T. V.I.P remix) by Un-Cut. My winner?

This was tough, because Midnight has our Queen Jenna G laying it down like no one's business. But the fact is her voice also brings me to a sedate place. I get nothing but energy from California.

By the way, Big ups for Juno Reactor. I know a ton of us where brought in with the Matrix, but they always did quality work. I'm so mad that I never got to go to a European Rave...

Hey, express yourself. We can't get to know each other in one conversation.

And any info you want to know about Go Sun, I'm a giant fanboy.

I'll tell you that I was interested in finding out how long it would take to get the oil to frying temperature with using my Jackery 500 solar inverter (I know you're not supposed to call it a generator).

I got the existing oil down to 91 degrees as that could be room temperature on a hot day. It took some time to air it out to cool it down. The oil that I left in the Fusion was about 135 degrees. Which was nuts, because according to my chart, I stopped frying a little after 2:40 pm, and I started the test around 7 pm. I added some more oil to cool it down quicker.

So, in thirty minutes, I got the oil to a heat of 233 F. Not bad. But it took another 30 minutes to get it to 350.

Now, there are some factors to consider. I used a baking tray because I didn't want oil spilling everywhere. At the thirty minute mark, the Thermometer that I had in contact with the heating element was at it's limit. It just read 'Hi'. But like I said before, the thermometer in the oil itself was at 233 at thirty minutes. The baking tray doesn't touch flush to the bottom (where the heating element lies) , so that's something to think about.

Also, if you look at the battery... it's ok. I have one. It's good for about 40 minutes of heating. Not the hour they claim. It's 199 dollars for 144wh. If you were just interested in only heating something for an hour, I think it would be better to get an Anker Powerhouse 200 for $230. For 30 extra bucks, you'll get an unit that can dish out 213Wh. Factoring in traditional power loss, you'll probably have enough to cook for an entire hour with a few watts left over to charge your phone.

I'm looking to get a Bluetti EB240, at 2400 watts. But I'm so lost in the prepper weeds that maybe this is a good time for me to stop talking about all of this..

snip about Drum and Bass examples
Ah, ok that stuff, yeah I've heard Drum and Bass before. Little too much speed on the drums for my personal tastes, at least for the entire song, but to each their own. I love RUSH, and I am...I think the ONLY person in my real life, aside from my older brother who introduced me to them, who I know, who loves them.

By the way, Big ups for Juno Reactor. I know a ton of us where brought in with the Matrix, but they always did quality work. I'm so mad that I never got to go to a European Rave...
Well I had been listening to Juno before Matrix. Not saying that in some snooty kind of way, just simply fact. I remember....I think I randomly came across them in a CD shop in my local mall as a kid, and saw the black cover to Bible of Dreams. I can't recall if that shop had the capability to sample tracks if you scanned them, or if I just took a leap on the cover art being cool and thinking I'd try it out. I think it was the latter. But yeah, they were right up my alley. Actually, thinking back, I think I might've
first heard of them on a late night show on MTV, I forget what it was, but it was basically the AM block of weird shit they would play before the morning mainstream music started. Lots of techno and growly metal, and experimental shit. I think that was where I heard them, and then found that CD in the shop. But yeah, they were SUCH good music to get high and just stargaze to until dawn.

OT: I don't really do pictures much, never have been a fan, so I can't really some things up with a still image. But a cornerstone of who I am, and a testament to me still being alive today, is due to this song.

No exaggeration, I credit this album PRESTO, but this song in particular with saving my life. No details, but shit was weird at my house when I was a young teen, and I didn't handle a lot of the mounting issues well. And multiple times I considered suicide, but listening to this album, usually at night, when I was trying to go to sleep and forget about things, would help. This song, being about suicide, really hit a nerve with me. The whole album had a lot of resonance with me, to accept my flaws, and learn to adapt and deal, and to find beauty and peace where I could make it. "All of us get lost in the darkness, dreamers learn to steer by the stars. All of us spend time in the gutter, dreamers turn to look at the cars." The weight of those lines, being 2 pasttimes I frequently did (stargazing, and idly watching traffic go by with my friends at night) helped me to realize that my problems weren't unique, that everyone had them to some degree. And this guy, Neil Peart, had even used examples in songs, that were precise examples of my life, and ways I tried to deal. So yeah, it hit home, hard. In a good way. His hobbies of writing and music echoed my own, namely a love of drums and rhythms, and a love for stars and the constellations. As well as his atheism, ended up echoing my own as I got older.

Actually, after saying that, I think I can post an image that can sort of encapsulate a part of who I am as a person.

*edit* Ok fuck this site's interface, it apparently hates me trying to insert simple damn images. so just go google Neil Peart and you will see.

Neil Peart. A brilliant man and musician, who's lyrics and music is one reason why I am here today to say this. Musicians usually want to make a mark on the world, to have their art mean something to those who hear it. And while I never met the man, his life, helped save mine. It's not an amazing life, but it's mine, and I've come to enjoy it with all it's flaws. So thank you Neil, without ever having met me, you changed my life into something better.

Amazon wants $500 for "GOSUN Fusion Solar Oven, Hybrid Electric Grill, Portable Solar Cooker, Outdoor or Indoor Oven"! Is that because of the shut down or a normal price? So many things are priced off the hook. Try buying a webcam for your PC!

More about me:
I'm a USAF veteran. I served over seas working on F4e planes and got to see a lot of the world and gained skill sets that got me the job I have today. It is one reason I am very pro-vocational skills while thinking way, way, way too many young people go to college... at least when they go mostly to postpone adulthood.
jet.gif
I love technology! At home, I'm the live in IT help desk. I've been building my own desktop computers for about 25 years A hobby that also aided me getting the job I have today which involves technology.
480.gif
The wife's career took off before mine did, so I became primary care taker. I had to change gears and scramble to try to keep up with her $ wise while taking the kids to the play ground, later to join sports teams. I live in the boonies meaning if my kids wanted to hang with a friend, I was either chauffeur or entertainer to kids and their friends for play dates. To this day I am the family cook. My boy barely made it through high school. While in school they changed the law so he could not drop out until 18, by which time he had only days to go before he'd graduate anyway if I could get him to just do the work. So I also became on site tutor, dragging him kicking and screaming to graduation after which he said a very mature thing: "Dad, I'm not sure I am going to make a good adult." That he's asking himself that was a good thing. He got his first job as kitchen help at a restaurant and matured some for a couple of years. I put him through a tech school rather than college and he immediately started making good money at a job he tells me he loves. Now, without prompting from me, he is going to night school to get his associates in a technical field (Construction, not IT related). My daughter got her masters. Me n the missus got to visit her on her Semester Abroad in Europe. Within 3 months of each other, both got their own apartments (in the middle of this lock down!) I feel like I became an empty nester over night!

BTW: Someone on this site gave me reason to think he might have insight to a problem I was having with the boy several years ago and he really talked me off a ledge. One of the reasons I like coming here.

My sister has recently gotten 18 baby chickens for egg laying to add to her current 5. We weren't expecting them to show up for another 2 months before she got them so we had to scramble to make arrangements for them. They're currently about 3 weeks old.

The pride you must feel. And a bit of sadness, I would guess. What does it feel like to 'reclaim your castle', as it were? I don't have children. Doubt I actually will. But I always personally had mixed feelings about the time when they flew away. What has it been like for you?

It's good to hear that you made that connection. I think there's enough here for everyone if we just open up and try. This isn't a popping thread by any means, but I got to know a few of you better. And that really feels great.

I was thinking about really getting into self reliance when I move to Canada. I was looking at chickens myself. From my studying, I wanted to get Rhode Island Reds. What kind of chickens are these?

Well before getting these new chickens I did research for my sister and the primary trait I looked for was a good attitude, then their ability to handle temperate climate, and then their ability to lay well. I say all that because I don't know what breeds they are because my sister and brother-in-law decided to not have them tell them what breeds they are, they are a random assortment of the breeds I recommended.

Mostly good feelings. My wife is going looney in that she wants the house to be "clutter free" and she's either throwing out stuff of mine, telling me I don't need new stuff or putting things away cuz it looks pretty even if I need the stuff. She put the dish strainer in the basement. Last night, she washed dishes and I towel dried and I'm thinking, this is so flippin stupid. EDIT: OMG. There's no room on the counter for the dish soap, toaster or dish strainer. But there is room for a pretty ceramic pumpkin on the kitchen counter.
But I got a T.V. and bathroom back!
Till the kids boomerang with spouses and grand kids. I did it twice after moving out. Total of 3 years in in-law houses saving 1st for a condo, then a house. In laws followed me to my new home and lived with me till they passed.
No idea how long this current situation will really last but for the most part, very liberating.

Ok, I'm down. Let's go.

His name is Loki, he's a 7 years old Cocker Spaniel and he is the goodliest and stinkiest boy who loves walkies and his toy ball. You should also know his ball is the best ball in the world ever. You may think that's just hyperbole, but you are dead wrong. Loki's ball is best ball. He's also a bit of a scoundrel, so he's true to his name.

I've been playing some 17 years now and I've played a good number of instruments in that time, but this one has consistently remained my favorite for the past decade. It 's a Status Series 1. Those cost like £2500 new, but I got mine secondhand for €1100. Still a pretty penny, but well worth it. It does everything I want from a bass. A sound with deep lows so growly I don't need distortion to play heavier genres, contrasted by crystal clear highs, while bouncy mids that can effortlessly punch through the mix round out the whole. Sure, not everyone like the tone of carbon-necked active basses, but I wouldn't exchange it for anything. That carbon also makes it very balanced and lightweight, which is just more comfortable to play, especially during longer gigs. One kilo less might not seem much, but you feel the difference after some 3 hours on stage.

Another hobby of mine. I enjoy a nice Scotch. This is my best bottle. Or at least my most expensive one. It is a really good whisky tho. Nice and peaty, just the way I like i, but I only drink from it very sparingly, cuz, you know, expensive. It also has a name I can pronounce, unlike a fair few of the others. Damn you Gaelic and your names that are spoken way different from how they're written. You bring me much shame!
