I felt bad about buying a 5700XT right before the 3000 series cards were announced. I really needed a new computer and couldn't really wait for the 3000 series cards to be released even though I knew they were better.

Man am I ever happy with my decision.
My brother bought an RTX 2080Ti which I thought was maybe not wise but didn’t complain much cos I got his old GTX 1080. That thought likewise aged poorly and I’m beyond grateful he did. Hell I kind of wish I’d bought one myself.

I generally like the power of my 2080, it does seem to struggle at times, really my main annoyance with it is how loud the fan is when I run at 1440 and 144 Hz.

You could undervolt it to reduce the speed and noise of the fan.

Same. I am proper fucked if my 1080 woofs its cookies. Unless I wanna spend $1300 on a 2080 Super. And if that's not available, well, its 3090 time.

I remember when they first released, a local webstore had a few 3080s in stock. They were €950-1050, about 10-20% overpriced. So I held off until prices settled.

I kind of feel really stupid now. Best I can get for that amount right now that isn't a big downgrade is a 2060.

Man, first world problems, amiright

You say that in jest, but it is causing problems in places other than the PC gaming space. But yes for us personally, its a problem like a stubbed toe is a problem.

A few weeks ago, my PC would suddenly switch off whilst playing games, and the fans on my GPU would ramp up to 100%.

All signs pointed towards my GPU overheating - and this is a 1080ti with a huge, triple-slot cooler, too.

So my choices were either underclock the GPU, stop playing games, or take it apart, re-paste it, and try again.

I felt like a goddamn surgeon, and if it fucked the card, I would have been double boned, because I cheaped out on my processor for an F model - aka, an Intel processor without integrated graphics.

I think my heart stopped for a second, when I plugged it back in.

All is good now, though. I really was not looking forward to scouring the second-hand market for anything even approaching a good deal.

Really looking forward to when 3000-series cards are actually purchasable (and not ridiculously overpriced).

I've kind of gotten used to seeing €3090 as also the price you can regularly see for a 3090, but look at this cheeky dickwaffle slapping another cool grand on top

Obligatory "more cards you will not be able to buy" joke
Honestly I'm a little disappointed, I feel the 3080Ti should have had like 16GB on it to put it up AMD and the 3070Ti not getting any additional memory - even a boost to 10GB - is just bizarre. I know they're putting faster memory on it but come on guys, some more overhead would be nice.

Im interested to see the actual performance numbers of the 3070 TI, seeing as it is priced right in the middle of the 3070, and the 3080.

It may well be the card that I eventually go for - when I can actually buy one, that is.

Im curious about the pricing of the 3080 TI, though. It is $500 more than the regular 3080. That is quite the jump. Not too sure that the added performance is going to be worth the price hike, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Some videos on the 3080 Ti with benchmarks and such.

Haven't yet seen anything I think is reliable on the 3070 Ti

I feel myself becoming more and more of a console gamer the older I get. I don't know why really, because the stuff I play can usually be played on PC as well. However for whatever reason with my busy work schedule, I find the ease of consoles is winning me over and performance is so comparable now that I can't even notice the difference.

The thing is, as consoles have approached PCs in technical parity, they've also approached PCs in operational parity- the XBox and Playstation are basically cut-down multimedia PCs at this point, with many of the same downsides PC gamers have been dealing with for decades. Nintendo is basically the last bastion of "just put a cartridge in and have fun" old-school console sensibilities.
