Today, for you:

Shadowrun Trilogy

Shadowrun Trilogy will be free on GOG until 28th June at 1:00 PM UTC. To nab it, simply go to gog.com (link provided above), scroll to down a little for the giveaway banner, and click that big green button to claim it. It should show up in your library almost immediately. I believe you also need to be subscribed to GOG's newsletter.
omplete your tactical RPG Shadowrun collection from developer Harebrained Schemes with this definitive bundle which contains: Shadowrun Returns + Deluxe upgrade (includes Anthology pdf + Official Soundtrack), Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut, and Shadowrun: Hong Kong + Deluxe upgrade (includes Art Book pdf + Official Soundtrack).

The year is 2054. Magic has returned to the world, awakening powerful creatures of myth and legend. Technology merges with flesh and consciousness. Elves, trolls, orks and dwarves walk among us, while ruthless corporations bleed the world dry. You are a shadowrunner - a mercenary living on the fringes of society, in the shadows of massive corporate arcologies, surviving day-by-day on skill and instinct alone. When the powerful or the desperate need a job done, you get it done... by any means necessary.

In the urban sprawl of the Seattle metroplex, the search for a mysterious killer sets you on a trail that leads from the darkest slums to the city’s most powerful megacorps. You will need to tread carefully, enlist the aid of other runners, and master powerful forces of technology and magic in order to emerge from the shadows of Seattle unscathed.

The unique cyberpunk-meets-fantasy world of Shadowrun has gained a huge cult following since its creation nearly 25 years ago. Now, creator Jordan Weisman returns to the world of Shadowrun, modernizing this classic game setting as a single player, turn-based tactical RPG.
Have a look if interested, and enjoy.

I was like "they made an ARMA game set in the shadowrun universe?!"

Dragonfall and Hongkong are 2 of my favorite games, period. I think Hongkong plays a bit better but the story and characters in Dragonfall are a bit better.

Yeah pretty much, I'd rate dragonfall slightly higher overall but they're pretty close.

I'd skip the first one, dead man switch. It's plays more like a tech demo than an actual game.

I thought the first one was just Returns? I've been tempted to play it since I loved the other 2 but I have only heard mediocre things about it.

That’s the only one I have, and it gives me some comfort knowing that even though it’s still fairly enjoyable, the subsequent entires are apparently far better. And now free to boot!

The game is called return but the campaign/scenario is called deadman switch. Mediocre is the right word for it, the story isn't very interesting, character are forgettable, missions and super basic and it has the most limited gameplay option of all of them.

I wouldn't say its a bad time, but rather than play it I'd look into some of the user created campaign.

I have all 3 games already but I'm always up for free so I'm grabbing it anyway.

Is it worth playing returns if I have the other 2? I've heard pretty much everyone say the other 2 are much better but does that mean I wouldn't want to bother with Returns then? Are they even related other then by being in the same universe and by the same company?

If you haven’t played any of them, it would seem that starting with Returns would be preferable since you might not be inclined to go back to what is largely considered an inferior game after playing the latter two. I started Returns a long time ago so will definitely finish it before the others. It’s fine by me in terms of gameplay (turned based party system with skill trees) and story (kind of a mix of investigation and murder mystery intrigue) since I personally have no frame of reference for how much better or worse it is. The only other Shadowrun game I’ve played is the SNES one which is literally the reason I got Returns.

Damn that a good deal. Wish they'd port the other games elsewhere though as I could only get Returns on a phone and even then they delisted it so I can't actually play the product I paid for anymore. It was nice while it lasted.

No its unrelated (one or two character makes minor cameo). Return was the first one they did with the engine, they spent most of their time/energy setting up the system and that just didn't leave much time for the the campaign. It's a bit shorter than the later one so its not as much of a time sink (maybe 30 hours if you do everything compared to 40+ with the later two).

Normally, i'd tell to skip Returns, and eventually return(heh) to it after beating two other campaigns, and if you still want more SR.

It feels more like a larger, run-of-the-mill sidequest and it ends before it has a chance to become interesting. It's not much than a decent introduction to the world and system.

But that's also why you might as well start with it, once you already have it. It's short enough, you shouldn't have time to get bored. And then move onto the main course.

I've only played returns and dragonfall. While I enjoyed dragonfalls story more, if I recall correctly you were pretty much stuck with your starting party and it felt like more standard jrpg storytelling where as in returns you had to hire your party members from the world which I kinda preferred, but I'm also the kind of gamer that prefers games like MechWarrior mercenaries, wizardry and labyrinth of refrain where you're kinda managing a team, where I'm the boss... Head Honcho. El Numero Uno. Mr. Big. The Godfather. Lord of the Rings. The Bourne... Identity. Er... Taxi Driver. Jaws. I forgot the question quite a while back. Who are you, again?
