I really wish they would stop trying to make hero arena shooters. They never work out well and Overwatch is becoming just the rare exception. Ugh.
I think the definition of hero shooter has been muddled a bit lately. Some people consider the characters you play as in CoD multiplayer as "heroes", even though I have no idea if they have character specific abilities. Apex Legends could also be called a hero shooter, but is a battle royale. Valorant as well is just CSGO but a hero shooter. I think "hero shooter" is becoming more of mechanic rather than a genre of game.

But yes, I am kind of tired of it. Especially now that they're bringing that kinda shit into games like Battlefield.

Deathloop looks exactly like Dishonored, but I am okay with that.

I've always wanted to get into Dishonored, but the game has always felt at odds with itself, seeing as its narrative punishes you for daring to use its arsenal. This game looks like it is more in-sync with itself.

It doesn't look like it is doing anything particularly new or crazy, and it looks decidedly last-gen, but it does looks like a lot of fun.

My only fear is that the game with have a jankely flow. Like it looks like it should be really cool, but I wonder how it'll ultimately connect together.

Remember when everyone was copying Call of Duty or Halo and Gears?

Or when everyone was trying to make the next Grand Theft Auto?

Or all the bad fighting game clones and every Mario knockoff that came out in sight in those times?

This is nothing new. It will pass; just don't play it.

The next best thing will come along, and it'll start all over again.
And MMORPGs trying to be WOW Killers

But hey we got decent games from people copying GTA and Mario

The same thing can be said about almost all the genre I listed, but that is not the point. Most games that played followed the leader turned out either average, mediocre, or bad. Sturgeon's Law and everything. Not to mention, every genre had a point of over saturation. There's a reason most of these clones have not gotten remakes, ports to HD, not part of the mini console collections, nor ported to modern consoles. Like I said before in a different thread, most GTA clones are garbage and have not aged well in content, gameplay, and story. Or tried too hard to be "gangster/gangsta" and "ghetto" in the most shallow attempts possible, while claiming to be "hardcore" and screaming "I'm mature! I'm an adult!".

While 2D and 3D platformers had a reassurance, the amount that came out is nowhere near as high in the 90s or early 2000s. Not to mention, most have better quality than the platformers of old. The same applies to the new golden age for fighting games and beat'em ups.

WOW will bounce back. Final Fantasy 14 will eventually move past its golden age.
I doubt that. FF14 is hitting peak numbers and if the new expansion in November is as good or better than Shadowbringers, then i imagine many wow refugees are going to still around.

Wow continues to get worse and their extremely slow patch cycle does not help matters. Unless Wow makes a huge design philosophy shift it will continue to bleed its playerbase.

I personally really liked this State of Play. Even if some of games are chasing the trend they at least got a interesting look and adjusting the formula.

The more I see of Deathloop the more I want I just hope it delivers on its premise.
F.I.S.T has my full attention
Arcadeggedon had me at sole and 4 player co op and again upset that the PS5 is the Loch Ness Monster of consoles right now.

Overall I just enjoy fresh faces being shown.

I highly doubt that. WOW is more or less near dead at this point.

Regardless, FFXIV is gonna be doing great either way. Yoshi P. completely turned it around.

I've been playing and following WOW for so long now, I've seen these ups and downs before. You only say that now because we are in a down right now.

If it does bounce back up, good for it. I still won't be playing. Never touch World of Warcraft back then and I don't plan on doing so now.

I've played WoW since 2005, we've been in a down for a looooong time man. And having personally jumped over to FF14, I can say that it feels like a much better game. It's different and hard to directly compare apples to apples with it

Jesse does a good job of breaking it down here.

I don't think that there are direct replacements for WoW, because wow still remains fairly unique. However WoW definitely does seem like the devs have more and more contempt for the players, implimenting more and more systems designed to FORCE you to grind, rather than making the player WANT to grind. It's a fundamental difference. Top that off with Blizz, not only ignoring the players but actively going the exact opposite direction that the players are asking for.

Ion has said that they look at metrics of what players are doing in the game, and they based their design choices based on the activities that they see the players doing. If the players are doing it, then it must be fun right? Well the problem is, the analytics don't account for how much player activity is being done because the games systems funnel and force players to do that things.

The grinds in Final Fantasy are not forced for any sort of endgame progression. Players do the grinds and the random things in the game because they want to, they are fun and the players are free to do anything they want. Even progression raiders do not have any sort of grind outside of the raid to prep for. the entire grind of progression raiding is the actual raiding, and when raid time is over the players can do whatever they want.
