Whatever, just wash your hands.
Season 1 was the only one I really liked, I thought season 2 was pretty awful on the whole and gave up on the show after that.

OT: I doubt the lightning will strike a second time.
I really don't get season 1 doing it for you, but none of the rest. While I like season one, I think its one of the weakest seasons.

I'm not a fan of My Little Pony but I have to say that the 3D CGI style is not a good look for MLP, I don't know why Netflix is so fond of it. And it seems very wrong that My Little Pony and Ghost in the Shell look like they could be in the same universe.
I'm not sure if I'm going crazy, but it seems like Netflix goes out of their way to push everything to 3D animation. More than half the stuff they put out anymore is 3D. I almost get the impression that the producers have to push back it when they feel something is meant to be 2D. I agree, not even being a fan I still think they shoulda stuck with the more popular style. It was very pleasant. The 3D netflix stuff all looks stilted and bland. I really struggled to enjoy the new GITS, that animation sucks.

Under normal circumstances I'd have said its because of expense but from memory, Friendship is Magic was done in Flash Animation. Which cannot possibly have been more expensive than this.

I'm gonna take the unpopular opinion this time around and say that if a bunch of adults latch on to the kids show for kids again, the writers should not, under any circumstances, change the show to start catering to the adult audience.

It was weird. It's why I stopped watching the first go-around

Also seems counter-productive. I mean, if adults liked it when it wasn't aimed at them, changing it to aim it at them is likely to make it less popular, I'd have thought. Same as when every franchise had to become Cod or Candy Crush, and it didn't work. Dunno if that's still a thing.

The writing really took a dive in season 2. Most of the main cast start acting seriously unstable, deranged, or just plain stupid with frequency, the show also starts relying on lame writing crutches like "and here's my long lost brother that I love the most in the entire world that I also haven't seen fit to mention until now," and lastly god babies.

One of my first posts on the Escapist was a thread going into detail on the flaws of season 2.

Also I've just realized that the merge from V1 to V2 completely ruined the threads in strange ways. Here is the same thread on V2 , I've been attributed with several posts that were simply written by other people. It makes it look like I have multiple personalities and keep completely changing my opinion every time I post. Seems to be some issue with banned users sometimes being replaced with the identity of the OP.

In the case of Rainbow Dash and some others, became bigger assholes. I know you are not alone in that criticism. I know Season 3 and later seasons addressed these issues and tried to correct them.

Pretty sure they mean it's just not very well written, because writers often phone it in when they are writing for kids. Whereas later seasons I guess put in more effort to make the writing be enjoyable for everyone, of all ages.
I'd argue it's quite well written, for the target audience. Which are 6-10 year olds.

That's kind of my point though. There is a LOT of children's entertainment, that is shit, BECAUSE they don't think they need to bother with good writing, just because they're kids. When the reality is kids are actually really good at spotting good writing, if people put in the effort.

Exactly why Hey Arnold was one of my favorite cartoons growing up.

I liked season 2 but you aren't wrong. Really season 2 has one of the most annoying finals in the series since it does have the brother out of no where and Twilights foal sitter be a full on princess. Plus Celestia again gets to do nothing when a threat is right in front of her, does have some good songs though and the design of the changelings and Cadance are both pretty great. Anyway, yeah I can see your points, they do fix those in later seasons and address certain behaviors as well in those seasons as BrawlMan said.

Do you mean the Cake twins? I liked that episode addressed babies being cute, but a pain in the ass. Seems like a lot of children's media, especially aimed more at girls is in the camp that babies are awesome and easy. Babies can be awesome but they aren't easy.

The character designs look like a decent adaptation of FiM's designs into CGI. Other than that... well, FiM's popularity was most probably a fluke and I doubt that lightning is gonna strike twice. Not to diss Friendship is Magic here, I was part of the fanbase for a while, but at the end of the day it was just your typical slightly above average cartoon. Not bad or anything, as far as these things go, but nothing to really set it apart from similar fare either. I think it finding that cult audience was more of a Zeitgeist thing, rooted in that transitional era of the internet where there was still enough of a sense of community that having dorky interests and being very open about them was not yet considered "cringe". But that age is over and My Little Pony's fanbase got really fucking cringe. And on top of that, real talk, way too much of the Brony community devolved into some weird sex thing to the point where even as a quirky, awkward teenager back in the early 10s, I started to feel alienated. It's probably not fair, but ask someone semi literate in internet culture what a Brony is and... well, chances are, they're gonna be thinking of people who get horny for unicorns.

Thanks, I hate it.

Really, I've been looking for an excuse to use that for a while, but for whatever reason the trailer does not work for me at all and I say that as someone who genuinely enjoyed FIM as a thirty something dude (even if I didn't shout it from the rooftops or anything). I eventually lost interest in FIM(no particular reason, it just felt like they'd run out of ideas and weren't really doing anything interesting anymore), so maybe that's playing into this but for whatever reason I'm not feeling the urge to watch the new one in any way.

I vividly remember Pinky having a full on mental breakdown in the course of day because she thought she was being snubbed, followed up by Twilight literally causing a riot because she needed a problem to solve. And those episodes happened within spitting distance of each other in the show run, so it kinda stuck out. It fed into the perception that a sizable chunk of the cast has mental health issues, at the very least.

Pretty much the whole mane6 has a break down at some point, aside from Fluttershy who starts out with really bad shyness but overcomes it as the series goes on. She still doesn't like groups and being in the spotlight but she can handle is much better over time.

I think you are right about it being really unlikely that gen 5 will have any hope of reaching the heights that gen 4 did, but I don't think it was a fluke. I think it was a combination of fantastic characters with a really stellar aesthetic and a world unlike most others, both medieval, but kinda modern and kinda greek. It didn't do the adventure aspect as well as something like Steven Universe or Adventure Time, but it had some amazing slice of life episodes that neither show could top and it still had some really good adventure ones. So I would say just calling it 'above average' is massively short changing it.

Porn will outlast interest in a property, how often do you see new stuff for gravity falls? I still encounter porn of it in my newgrounds feed from time to time. Plus, MLP FIM had a really strong yet simple art style that people loved, it was fun to make pony versions of things and people really want to *redacted* horses.
