Without saying your age, what's something from your childhood that a younger person wouldn't understand?

Just hopping on your bike and riding over to a friend's house, without guarantee they were even there or were willing, to hang out. There was always the landline, but sometimes it was fun just to have it be spontaneous while out roaming the neighborhood.

Those big old Macintosh computers with the clear, colored sides that you would use at school.

EDIT: Speaking of Gameboy Colors, having an external rig with lights and a magnifying glass screen.

"Rocky sucks! Rocky sucks! Rocky sucks! Rocky sucks!"

Remember that from the WWF days?

Having to go to the TV guide channel to figure out what was coming on next or have the booklet. Those used to come in the mail every couple of weeks. Those things weren't always accurate, schedules could change on a whim, or they put the wrong show in. I'm so glad those days are over.

Reading instruction manuals for console or PC gaming. Password save systems.

Swapping discs to get to the next part or to select another character.
I also remember die rocky die... I think wrestling audiences are marginally less toxic now.

"Cena wins, we riot."

I vaugely remember the "Die Rocky" signs, but they did not last that long thankfully. Due to his growing popularity, and later on, WWF started banning people with signs of death threats (for the most part). Fans are less toxic, but the business side (mainly WWE) is still shit. I have not watched anything wrestling related since 2007. I know AEW is good from whay I've heard, but even that would do nothing for me.

If you wanted to watch some cool nerdy obscure movie like Godzilla vs The Smog Monster or American Pop, your ass had to haunt a couple of certain channels at the darkest times of the morning.

Tuning the television using the red, green and grey buttons on the TV itself, and having to go all the way though again if you went too far micro-tuning.
Buttons? Luxury! You had one if those TVs that actually saved the channels. Bet it were colour an all!
We were so poor our TV tuned in with a bloody dial like a radio!

TV? TV?!? We were so poor we...etc etc

I remember playing ET on the 2600 as a young kid. I was young enough to have completed and enjoyed it, but at the same time, it was one of the first games I'd ever played so i didn't have anything to compare it to. Also, young childern often have poor taste in entertainment.

I'm old enough to remember when Reboot and Beast Wars were cutting-edge morning cartoons. They were visually stunning for their time, but have both aged like half-assed asset flips.
They never looked cutting edge, but they certainly didn't age that well. Fortunately the story's and characters still work.

I just think it's hilarious how it was basically the harbinger of things to come insofar as videogame adaptations of movies have almost always universally been utter shit. You'd think the industry might have learned something from such an elementary outing, but nope; let the title sell our snake oil, and show 'em taillights before the locals get hip to our nonsense.

They were cutting-edge for their time being the only computer-generated cartoons on broadcast offer.

Not really, they always looked rather simple. I mean they were the first tv cg shows, but we had better looking movies and game cinematics at the time. They were really impressive for what they were, but they did always look simple.

Watching anime late on Saturday night on Channel 77, The International Channel.Sometimes they would air certain anime on weeknights or Sundays only. Dragonball Z they would only show in Japanese, no subs for some reason. Yet, Slayers would get subtitles for all the series that was aired on the channel. This is something more exclusive to Michigan. Before anyone starts, yes we definitely have adult_swim and Toonami, but not a lot of states got this particular channel I am talking about.
