Refusing to submit critical documents and defaulting could, of course, have been a deliberate tactic if Jones knew he had a losing case. He loses either way, but this route gets to make a play to his paranoid, conspiracy theory audience as a victim of state / woke / liberal oppression.

That's even without the possibility that those documents might reveal that Jones knowingly lied, which would be really awkward for his credibility.

It's very possible that Jones decided to eat the losses because releasing those documents would have made him liable for even further lawsuits.

Fortunately or unfortunately, no. My understanding of Texas law means that his house is safe from these families even if they win a judgement.

Also why did it take so long? Claiming the children weren't really killed, were never real or are child actors is a pretty grizzly, but easy, fact to disprove. Like I hate to say it, but there are bodies.
Its one thing to claim the shooting was played up by liberals, disgusting as that sounds. Its another to claim the children never existed and the parents are scam artists pretending to have lost children.
