Well after about 7 years of living with my Grandparents to help take care of them, the time has come for my Grandmother to move into senior living and thus I too must move out. I had moved in with them shortly after graduating college as my grandfather's health was going to shit and my grandmother could not take care of him. My grandfather was a double heart transplant, skin cancer, kidney failure, lung infection, plus like 79 other diseases.

Sadly he passed in April of last year.

I've been since taking care of my grandmother who fortunately doesn't have any serious illness but has degenerative arthritis in her back which means she can't do basically anything at all. I do all the grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry, changing bed linens, on top of working 50 hours a week. In feburary her back totally went out on her and she was immobile for over a month. It made her realize that she needs even more help than I can possible provide unless I quit my job, which isn't happening, so she's selling the house and we're both moving.

For me it'll be interesting because it'll be the first time I'll be getting my own place with no room mates or family around. The prices of rent are insane too, this will be a hell of an expense. For the short term I'll likely be slowing down on new release spam, though new releases are drying up pretty fast so maybe it wont even be noticable. I look forward to flying solo for a change and seeing what true independence feels like.

Good luck on your next adventure. Living alone, only being responsible for yourself and setting things up how you want them is a uniquely gratifying experience.

I can't wait to set up a real gaming desk, that's what has me the most excited. I'll finally have space to set shit up cleanly and set it up in a way where i don't have to navigate a bunch of chords everytime i want to play a different system.

I am gonna need a second TV though.

I should also think about a bed maybe.

I haven’t rented in years (wow, already ten as of last month actually) but I’d imagine one has to be more careful than ever about search resources. This might be a helpful reference point especially for first timers -

Also congrats. Hope granny does well in assisted living and that you are able to relax a bit and enjoy your newfound freedom.

Wait, have you been sleeping on the couch?

Sorry if that sounds dumb. That last sentence begs the question.

The move happens on thursday. i miss video games.
Best of luck. I'm a little jealous that you'll have your own gaming space. Only a little as while I did have to surrender my home theater for about 3 years for my kid, I do have a space (11x11 office). PC, Vita, PS3, 4, Xbox. So, I can't complain.

Yeah I'm looking forward to having a place that I'm free to put my own fingerprint on.

I have moved. I'm mostly in place, just missing a few things that I'll have to buy over time. But I have entered my new home, my new place, and the build is so new that there is no internet yet.

I'm very sad. Hopefully by Monday they say....but..bleh.

I hope you bought vs renting. If you have some cash stored up to be able to do 20% down, you can own a condo for less than it would cost to rent.

One of the times I moved, I was without Internet for a month and a half (in the age before smartphones were really a "thing"). It was not fun.

They tried to set up my internet on sunday, but it turns out that no internet provider has working service in the building yet. Nor do any of the TV companies. It's incredibly upsetting.

Dude, take this opportunity to engage with the world, go for a walk, meet your neighbours. Unless you live in a total craphole neighbourhood. In which case, sit inside and cry. Or spend your money on crack, either is good. Except the crack, don't do that.

I don't like the outdoors, I get extremely uncomfortable in open spaces.

Crack sounds fun though.

It is, but very short lived and expensive. Time spent satisfied/money isn't a great ratio. Heroin would be a better bet long term. Don't do that either though. I honestly feel that you should try and overcome your aversion to the outside world, it really can be a lovely place if you give it a chance.
