It’s an investment to be sure.
It's more that Capra Demon is just a terrible fight and it's not fun getting stuck in the entryway by dogs while he wails on you with his giant swords. I actually did continue and the very first time I killed the dogs I won the entire fight. Currently I've made it to the bottom of the catacombs and have gotten my great scythe.

Super Cyborg (Switch) - I bought this game on Steam way back in 2018 on sale, but lost track of trying to play it. I got the Switch version on sale too, but making effort. This game is basically the other Contra game that released on indie stores before Blazing Chrome. The only difference being Super Cyborg is emulating the 8-bit Contra/Probotector games, instead of the 16-bit, Hard Corps and Alien Wars. Mainly, the game is aping Super C, but in a good way. You can charge your shots for each weapon pick up, unlike Contra. There is co-op, multiple save files, you can customize the color of your cyborg, and there are seven stages total. The game is available on PS4, but there is no sale yet.

Double Dragon IV - The game knows what it wants to be: An NES style throwback that improves upon the games on that system. It's not a perfect game, but is good overall, and has some neat bonuses that will have you be coming back for more. While challenging is much more bearable in difficulty than NES games; III especially. The platforming is surprisingly fun, if basic, and is nowhere near as annoying with a few minor exception. I will say the game starts getting really good around stage 5 and after where you go to Tokyo. The levels have mostly fun or better gimmicks and locales.

Beat Hyper Light Drifter, but more than finishing the game I'm elated that I was able to chain 800 dash moves for the trophy (though I guess it goes towards 100% as well). The "legit" way too, not that I had any other option playing on console. And I did it mostly out of spite because I hated how close I got early on without even trying (793) only to average about 100-200 once I started trying going for it.

After Elden Ring I decided to go back and play some Dark Souls: PtD on PS3, doing a caestus/Dragon Bone Fist run. I was surprised to find people still doing co-op, though less surprised to see people simply refusing to learn how to notice Quelaag's AOE attack.

I stopped taking the series seriously after MW2. I know you made your points, but MW2 felt like a James Bond movie that took itself too seriously. I remember excuses were made how it's just being realistic, or realism, but it got way over the top for me by that point. And it came off as just another fantasy claiming to be about how this would turn out and such, when everyone was speaking out of their asses. At that point, the game pretty much turn into Red Dawn parts one and two in video game form. A movie I'm not exactly a fan of either. The third game basically became a ultra conservatives wet dream.
Oh, MW2 had a lot of stupid. I can think of a ton if plot holes and wierd bits that felt like they were either left over from previous rewrites of the script or were basically setpieces strung together by bits of plot. Russia is the most plausible take on the US being invaded(even if's still extremely unlikely) and right now feels disturbingly on the nose with the war crimes depicted. Hell, Red Dawn was apparently supposed to be about how awful it is to have a war brought to your doorstep and some people completely missed the point of that film. And it still makes more sense than North Korea invades(Looking at you, Red Dawn Remake).

I think the reason both of those games work is that War is shown in a Tragic light, the US definitely doesn't come across as blameless in the least and even at the end of the DC missions there's this ominous "We're gonna burn Moscow to the ground" vibe, as the Americans have given into the same Bloodlust they've seen in the Russians and nobody finds this remotely concerning. It feels wierdly fitting that "World at War" could have been subtitled "Now with 150% more war crimes". Even at the end, the heros have failed to really fix anything and are now wanted for killing a US general. The US military officer who worked with the enemy got everything he wanted and died a hero, while those who killed him for his crimes failed to prove he was guilty(MW3 just handwaves this and never bothers to address it).

MW3 seems like it just ignores the tragic vibe from the first two games in favor of "Hoo-rah! Kill the Russians".

What's funny is that between the death drops in upper Blighttown and the poison swamp at the bottom, the area does a lot of work preparing you for a boss who limits your available space to stand and dodge in. And people apparently still can't handle that.

Just rewatched that episode now, still holds up.

Is it weird that I actually think the fat bald guy with the OP character is actually kind of cool? Like, I think that clearly wasn't their intention, but the way he doesn't say a single thing in the whole episode, makes him seem kind of cool.

The episode was done with quite a lot of love to the MMO community, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the writing staff saw a bit of themselves in him.

He's an obese unhygienic slob who seemingly does nothing but play WoW all day, nothing cool about it.

Last year Hearthstone released this card.

Everyone starts with 30 health in Hearthstone and mana crystals are your resource for playing cards so losing all of them means you can only play a 1 cost or 0 cost card after getting hit with that sword.

Max Payne 3

I don't hate it, but I don't really like it either. It's a decently fun 3rd person shooter whenever it actually lets you play. It has tons of cutscenes and a rather annoying habit of taking away control every time you're starting to feel the combat. See a slightly ajar door? You just know you'll spend the next couple minutes watching Max rather than being Max. It's also a bit samey same-y throughout. Later on you get dudes with better weapons and body armor, but you spend the entire game fighting the same type of enemy, save for maybe half of dozen exceptions.

Can get decently touch, tho that's mostly mitigated by playing with kb&m, so slo-mo lets me play a point & click adventure where the only puzzle is 'use bullet on head'. Which does lead to some oddities with the helmeted guys later on. "Dude, I popped you dead-on between the eyes with an assault rifle. Dafuck are you doing getting back up?" Would've also appreciated a more robust cover system. If you're going to have one, put in a way to easily swap cover, or which shoulder you're looking over for that matter. I ended up not really using cover all that much, preferring to just move and peak around corners instead.

On the plus side are the production values. I mean, it's still obviously a PS360 era game, but a really high-end one. Rockstar's penchant for attention to detail shines through. I can imagine this game chugged hard on og hardware. Soundtrack is pretty neat too. I was pleasantly when during one level a version of a song from Health, a noise band I like, started playing. Actually made me grab my phone, since I use the original version of that song as my alarm clock.

Overal, it was ok I guess.

Spider-Man, like the new God of War, has no... proper gameplay loop? What I mean is that, due to the priority of the cinematic presentation, you always start from an auto-checkpoint with full health. That feels cheap. It gives the player an incentive to fail. First thing they might do when they face off against the second level of a boss is just kill themselves or pause and load from the checkpoint. As opposed to older games where you'd replenish your health and THEN get the save point. Where you'd have to journey on to the next save point and might start any auto-checkpoints with only as much health as you had before you entered. If it's not the Spider-Man/God of War way, it's usually health regeneration. The two methods make the areas/action feel so... insular rather than progressive. You always get a clean slate.

Been years since I watched that video, but I remember the silly goose acted as if you couldn't play Max Payne 3 without cover. At least Chimpzy played it the non-popamole way.

Like Turbo said, it's either cover or route memorization. I remember not using cover that much, but I was on Normal, and playing on 360. The harder difficulties make it harder for run and gun, unless you know where enemies are going to pop out and have the spawns memorized. If you don't know that or not skilled, prepare to use more cover. That I do know from friends and seeing others player the harder modes He's not wrong. Max moves way slower in 3 compared to the prior entries. I do like MP3 by the way, but I am not afraid to see the faults, nor the problems. Hell, Sam Gideon and Brandon Heat (Gungrave) move faster than Max in his 3 incarnation. Sam is wearing rocket powered power armor, and Brandon has a giant casket chained to his back! Garcia Hotspur moves quicker than, Max! And Garcia is just a demon hunter with a talking gun and has no bullet time nor slow-mo!

Speaking of Vanquish, I was able to use way less cover in that game than MP3. Then again, you're given a robust and flexible move kit with tons of hidden mechanics and exploits. The game was designed for a player to use the least amount of cover possible when learning and skilled enough to do so.

Dead Men Walking begs to differ. Agree that his moveset could be better, but Vanquish isn't remotely what I want. Has no sense of weight, looks really dumb.

Good for him, I don't care.

Wrong. Sam actually does have a sense of weight, and movement is not dumb. It's pure grade, 100%, awesome you can't comprehend nor handle. You got to have mad skills goes to pull off the crazy shit in this game! Spoiled, never happy, and unsatisfied as always. Nothing surprising or new here. Be it with movies or games that you actually bother with.
