I heavily disagree with Austin on saying that Platinum "has not made a true 9th gen game. They're stuck in the PS3 era" (around the 20 minute makr). What does that even mean? When I last checked, there has not been a "true 9th gen experience" from nearly anyone in the gaming industry as far as I'm concerned. Second, Astral Chain did great on Switch, Nier Replicant did even better. Yes, it's a remake of a game from 7th generation, but my point still stands. I am worried about Platinum, but I am not worried about Bayonetta 3's quality of the final product.Oh my God....
So much wasted potential!
I think at this point the biggest issue with them is that the indie sphere is pretty oversaturated with metroidvania (with a large subset of those being heavily soul inspired). I don't think a single week goes by without a new one release on steam. You, know, I'm just gonna post this like it's an article. Probably has as much actual content as anywhere else
And then the next best thing will come along and it'll start all over again. This is nothing new. Back when XBLA and Steam really took off, there was a bunch of tower defense games and artsy platform. Even then, there are plenty of different other games that something sells apart and had a huge influence on the gaming sphere. There's always going to be clones.I think at this point the biggest issue with them is that the indie sphere is pretty oversaturated with metroidvania (with a large subset of those being heavily soul inspired).
