lmao

I dunno man, you're the one mad at the pointless semantic difference of Pregnant People.

Lotta hospitals in Western Montana just call the birthing departments "Birthing Centers". Probably to piss you off, specifically. In my town specifically, the big hospital has a Family Maternity Center, and the other hospital has a Women & Girls department.

Maybe you're just wrong in your base assumptions?

And California's #3, so...
Lmao isn't an argument, what lawsuits and book bans?

Nobody ever complained about the term pregnant women until recently. It's also kinda funny how the whole Roe v Wade situation has people instantly knowing what a woman is again...

Funny that you skipped over this whole sentence from the article I posted and ignoring the fact that democrats always vote against affordable housing. If republicans were doing that, there'd be a whole thread on here whining about it. Red states simply have better opportunity for minorities as the housing is cheaper, which means getting a business up and going is easier too (as the business building is both cheaper to own/rent and it's easier to save money since your housing is cheaper). That's why black people are moving back South. Why would they if everyone is so racist?
California is quickly becoming like the state of New York, which has experienced domestic out-migration and slow population growth for many years. By contrast, Texas has replaced California as the nation’s fastest-growing (in numerical increase) and most popular destination state.

Because I'm not interested in justifying myself to you. You make shit up, dude. You really do.
Justify your argument to whoever (it's a forum that anyone can see, not just me). What have I made up? You're the one making up Rs are evil and Ds are good.

That's literally how progress works. Minority groups become more visible and they and others start standing up for them. There was a time nobody complained about black people sitting at the back of the bus. There was a time nobody complained about same sex couples not being able to get married.

No, my stance is that Dems are less worse than Republicans, because the Republicans are not a party of serious governance. See? You make shit up.

Nobody complained about it. A few organizations started saying pregnant people because why not be inclusive and y'all started pitching a fit. There's been "Birthing Centers" for years now and it's only recently right wing culture warriors are getting upset about it.
It's also kinda funny how the whole Roe v Wade situation has people instantly knowing what a woman is again...
Oh, I guarantee folks are still saying "pregnant people" and "women and girls" and any other semantic minutia you'd've gotten mad about 4 days ago. Gotta make sure this new legislation doesn't exclude trans people, don't ya know. Wouldn't be shocked if red states start passing waves of "gender identity doesn't exist, only sex exists, trans people don't exist" laws just to make sure trans men and non-binary people aren't exempt from abortion bans

I mean, mostly useless on a *good* day. Lotta the time they're lock step with GOP ideology, just fake nice about it
I read this article about someone saying "Dems, do something!"

Like, what? Short of assassinating a SCOTUS judge, it's probably over. I guess if they've got some tasty blackmail material on one of them, that might work.

Who knows - maybe there are some sort of threats that politicians can level at the judiciary to cow them... but even if they did, the Democrats wouldn't use them. Because the Democrats are mostly useless.

It is obvious they are mostly useless. Toothless, passive, accepting, semi-competent, navel-gazing. At a certain level, as a party, they just don't care that much. About almost anything at all. They'll complain a great deal, and do nothing else. They just don't have the same degree of shameless ruthlessness that the Republicans do. I think all the Democrats are really doing is looking at the upcoming tragedy for millions of Americans and thinking "Mm, might be able to squeeze a good few votes out of that."

Man, think of all the fundraising they're going to be able to do off of this.

Make a move to codify it into law through the legislature. Biden promised to do exactly that during the campaign.

They attempted that within the past year. Unfortunately, it (of course) fell short in the Senate.

But let me kind of update people on where we are and what the problem is for Democrats who want to do that. First of all, if you look at what's been going on, Democrats in the House, which they control, of course, did pass a law in September, the Women's Health Protection Act, that would essentially codify Roe versus. Wade, essentially say that abortion is legal in this country.

However, that has to go to the Senate, where it needs 60 votes. As our viewers well now, the Senate did take a test vote on that concept in February. Just 48 votes supported that bill.

[...]

That is a lot of explanation to say there is a bill that perhaps could get 52 votes in the Senate to keep abortion legal in this country in every state. But I don't see any way that it could get 60 at this time. You have to change the filibuster, there are not the votes to do that. Joe Manchin said today he would not do that over abortion.

See, they can't risk breaking the filibuster, because then the Republicans would use that as justification to break the filibuster next time *they* have 50+1 votes.

The fact that the Republicans won't bother with having a justification to begin with* is never mentioned.

*(They'll fake some stupid thing up though. "The socialist democrats briefly entertained the idea of breaking the filibuster, so we had to break the filibuster, but if they do it later it's unjustified" or some such)

Admittedly (extremely narrowly admittedly in this case specifically), Manchin has been anti-abortion reliably before now, so they admittedly don't have even 50 votes on this without pulling a republican (lol) to their side.

They could threaten to investigate him for corruption and nepotism-- oh wait, that'd implicate Biden too, probably. Well, they could threaten to take some of that shit away.

Scrap the Senate's filibuster. The filibuster is a grotesque anachronism anyway.

Its a 'nuclear' option, sure, but this is about as serious as stakes get in domestic politics.

According to that article, Manchin already refused voting to scrap the filibuster to codify abortion rights back in Feb.

Let's be honest, the Dems probably have significantly less than even 48 votes. If two Republicans grew a conscience I could easily see somebody like Tester flipping
